A Natural Form of ExerciseRunning is probably the most natural form of exercise and does not require expensive equipment or a specific environment. However, running is a complex activity that does require the interaction of all the human body systems. In order to gain further health benefits from running and to reduce the risk of running-related injuries, the athlete and the health care provider must have sufficient understanding of the mechanism and physiology of running.
This one-day seminar will take an in-depth look at the human gait cycle and the mechanisms of running-related injuries. Attendees will complete a comprehensive running gait analysis using the latest technology and identify activities specifically designed for runners to help improve performance while decreasing the risk of injury. The instructor’s experience and passion for the course content will be key in providing the participants not only with tools and techniques that can be implemented immediately, but also with an exciting and fresh approach to treating runners of all ages and levels.
Course DirectorARIk POREmbA, PT, DPT, CkTP, is a licensed Physical Therapist and certified Kinesio Taping® Practitioner with extensive experience treating patients with orthopedic and sports-related injuries. Notable clients include elite athletes from the NBA, the European Basketball League, and USA Track and Field. Dr. Poremba specializes in sport-specific conditioning, running biomechanics, and gait analysis. His experience as a long-distance runner and an endurance athlete enables him to assist individuals to maximize their performance levels.
Dr. Poremba received his Master of Physical Therapy degree from Maryville University in St. Louis and a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) Institute of Health Professions in Boston.
In addition, Dr. Poremba is an active member of the Sport Section and Running Special Interest Group of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), Kinesio Taping® Association (KTA), and USA Track and Field (USATF). He has served as a guest lecturer in several schools and running clubs in Missouri and travels the country providing continued education classes on Running Gait Analysis and Injury Prevention. Additionally, he served as the physical therapy doctor for the St. Louis Basketball Academy and for Webster University’s track and field team where he oversaw injury prevention and treatment as well as the strength and conditioning program. Dr. Poremba is co-owner and founder of RACE STL, a state-of-the-art sports performance and rehabilitation facility located in St. Louis, Missouri.
