Addendum #3 – March 3, 2021
This addendum is being issued prior to the date for receiving bids.
The modifications, additional data and specifications included herein shall be incorporated into the Project Manual for the above-mentioned project. All other provisions of the Drawings and Specifications shall remain unchanged.
This addendum is issued in accordance with the provisions of Information for Bidders section of the Project Manual. All bids shall be based upon work as modified by this Addendum or Prior Addenda.
Acknowledge receipt of this Addendum on the Bid Form. Failure to do so may subject the bidder to disqualification. This addendum forms a part of the Contract Documents.

PART 1 - GENERAL
1.1 SUMMARY
A. Section includes the following underground hydronic piping:
1. Ductile-iron pipe and fittings. 2. Plastic pipe and fittings.
1.2 DEFINITIONS
A. Invert: Vertical distance from Project datum reference point to bottom interior pipe surface.
B. Reinforced, Thermosetting Resin Fitting (RTRF): Fittings fabricated of composite materials, largely consisting of a reinforcement material embedded in, or surrounded by, cured thermosetting resin. Most common form of reinforced, thermosetting resin pipe is one in which fiberglass strands form reinforcement.
1.3 ACTION SUBMITTALS
A. Product Data: For each type of product.
1.4 INFORMATIONAL SUBMITTALS
A. Coordination Drawings: Show pipe sizes, locations, and elevations. Show other piping in same trench and clearances from hydronic distribution piping. Indicate interface and spatial relationship between manholes, piping, and proximate structures.
B. Profile Drawings: Show system piping in elevation. Draw profiles at horizontal scale of not less than 1 inch equals 50 feet and at vertical scale of not less than 1 inch equals 5 feet.
1. Show locations and inverts of utility system manholes and piping. Show manholes and piping. Show types, sizes, materials, and inverts of other utilities crossing hydronic piping.
2. Show depth of cover from top of hydronic system pipes to finished grade.
C. Welding certificates.
D. Material test reports.
E. Source quality-control reports.
F. Field quality-control reports.

1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Welding Qualifications: Qualify procedures and personnel in accordance with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code: Section IX.
B. ASME Compliance: Comply with ASME B31.9, "Building Services Piping," for materials, products, and installation.
1.6 COORDINATION
A. Coordinate pipe-fitting pressure classes with products specified in related Sections.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
A. Provide components and installation capable of producing hydronic piping systems with the following minimum working-pressure ratings:
1. Hot-Water Piping: 150 psig at 200 deg F. 2. Chilled-Water Piping: 150 psig at 100 deg F.
2.2 DUCTILE-IRON PIPE AND FITTINGS
A. Mechanical-Joint, Ductile-Iron Pipe: AWWA C151/A21.51, centrifugally cast with mechanical-joint bell and plain spigot end.
1. Standard-Pattern, Mechanical-Joint Fittings: AWWA C110/A21.10, ductile or gray iron. 2. Compact-Pattern, Mechanical-Joint Fittings: AWWA C153/A21.53, ductile iron.
a. Glands, Gaskets, and Bolts: AWWA C111/A21.11, ductile- or gray-iron glands, rubber gaskets, and steel bolts.
2.3 PLASTIC PIPE AND FITTINGS
A. HDPE PIPE AND FITTINGS
1. HDPE Pipe, AASHTO/ASTM M294/F892, AWWA C906 meeting ANSI/NSF Standard 14, SDR 7.0 corrugated with integrally formed smooth interior.
2. AWWA C906 and NSF 14 identifications shall appear on exterior wall print line.
B. HDPE Joints, ASTM D3212, ANSI/NSF Standard 14, watertight joints using watertight sleeves. 1. Sleeves shall have an indentation in the center to ensure proper positioning of the pipe. 2. Sleeves shall be factory installed on one end of the pipe with a factory installed gasket on
the other end.

3. Joints for pipe between 21” and 24” may also use silt tight joints using split coupling bands and geotextile fabric.
C. Gaskets, ASTM F477, solid cross section rubber manufacturer to fit the pipe and fittings.
D. Lubricant used in making up joints shall be supplied, or recommended, by the pipe manufacturer and the joints shall be coupled in accordance with manufacturer’s requirements.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 PIPING APPLICATION
A. Hot-Water Heating Piping:
1. NPS 2-1/2 and larger shall be the following:
a. Mechanical-joint, ductile-iron pipe; standard- or compact-pattern mechanical-joint fittings; and mechanical joints.
B. Chilled-Water Piping:
1. NPS 2-1/2 and larger shall be the following:
a. HDPE Pipe.
3.2 PIPING INSTALLATION
A. Drawing plans, schematics, and diagrams indicate general location and arrangement of piping systems. Indicate piping locations and arrangements if such were used to size pipe and calculate friction loss, expansion, pump sizing, and other design considerations. Install piping as indicated unless deviations to layout are approved on coordination drawings.
B. Remove standing water in the bottom of trench.
C. Bed the pipe on a minimum 5-inch layer of pipe system manufacturer's recommended granular fill material with a minimum 4-inch clearance between pipes.
D. Do not backfill piping trench until field quality-control testing has been completed and results approved.
E. Install piping at uniform grade of 0.2 percent. Install required fittings to accommodate capped drains at low points and elsewhere as required for system drainage. Install capped manual air vents at high points.
1. Maintain continuous bedding under piping. Do not leave gaps in pipe bedding, allowing pipe to sag between contact points with the bedding.
F. Install components with pressure rating equal to or greater than system operating pressure.

G. Install piping in straight lines. Do not bend pipe.
H. Install fittings for changes in direction and branch connections.
I. Secure anchors with concrete thrust blocks.
J. Secure anchors and fittings where piping changes direction, and where elsewhere required by manufacturer's written installation instructions, with concrete thrust blocks.
K. Apply bitumastic coating to carbon-steel anchors and guides. Pour concrete thrust blocks and anchors.
L. After field quality-control testing is complete, backfill with 7 inches of clean, granular material in accordance with piping system manufacturer's written instructions. If mechanical compaction is required, manually backfill to 14 inches before using mechanical-compaction equipment.
3.3 JOINT CONSTRUCTION
A. Join pipe and fittings in accordance with the following:
1. Ream ends of pipes and tubes and remove burrs. Bevel plain ends of steel pipe. 2. Remove scale, slag, dirt, and debris from inside and outside of pipe and fittings before
assembly.
3. Apply appropriate tape or thread compound to external pipe threads unless dry seal threading is specified.
4. Damaged Threads: Do not use pipe or pipe fittings with threads that are corroded or damaged. Do not use pipe sections that have cracked or open welds.
3.4 IDENTIFICATION
A. Install continuous plastic underground warning tapes during backfilling of trenches for underground hydronic piping. Locate tapes 6 to 8 inches below finished grade, directly over piping.
3.5 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL
A. Perform tests and inspections with the assistance of a factory-authorized service representative.
B. Tests and Inspections:
1. Prepare hydronic piping for testing in accordance with ASME B31.9 and as follows:
a. Leave joints, including welds, uninsulated and exposed for examination during test.
b. Isolate equipment and instrumentation. Do not subject equipment and instrumentation to test pressure.

c. Install relief valve set to relieve at pressure no more than one-third higher than test pressure.
d. Fill system with water. Where there is risk of freezing, perform testing with air or liquid that will not freeze or cause damage to piping system materials.
e. For hydrostatic testing, install vents at high points to release trapped air while filling system. Remove test liquid at accessible low points.
2. Test hydronic piping as follows:
a. Subject hydronic piping to hydrostatic test pressure that is not less than 1.5 times system design pressure.
b. After hydrostatic test pressure has been applied for 10 minutes, examine joints for leakage. Remake leaking joints using new materials and repeat hydrostatic test until no leaks exist.
c. Do not pressurize carrier pipe with air. d. Maintain test pressure for four hours with no loss of pressure.
C. Piping will be considered defective if it does not pass tests and inspections.
D. Prepare test and inspection reports.
E. When successful testing is complete, flush carrier piping to remove dirt or debris remaining after construction. Drain piping after flushing is complete.
F. Fill underground piping system with permanent system liquid prior to system testing and balancing.

2.1 TYPE PVC RACEWAYS AND FITTINGS
A. Performance Criteria:
1. Regulatory Requirements: Listed and labeled in accordance with NFPA 70 and marked for intended location and use.
2. General Characteristics: UL 651 and UL CCN DZYR.
Retain "Schedule 40 Rigid PVC Conduit (PVC-40) and Fittings" Paragraph below for normal-duty aboveground applications, concrete-encased applications, or direct burial.
B. Schedule 40 Rigid PVC Conduit (PVC-40) and Fittings:
1. Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide products by one of the following:

Other stanchion and arm configurations are available; coordinate with manufacturer.
1. Stanchions: T-section or channel with provisions to connect to other sections or channels to form continuous unit; 1-1/2 inch (38 mm) in width by nominal 24 inch (600 mm) long; punched with 14 hook holes on 1-1/2 inch (38 mm) centers for cable-arm attachment.
2. Arms: 1-1/2 inch (38 mm) wide, lengths ranging from 3 inch (75 mm) with 450 lb (204 kg) minimum capacity to 18 inch (450 mm) with 250 lb (114 kg) minimum capacity. Arms must have slots along full length for cable ties and be arranged for secure mounting in horizontal position at vertical locations on stanchions.

Arms must be available in lengths ranging from 3 inch (75 mm) with 450 lb (204 kg) minimum capacity to 20 inch (500 mm) with 250 lb (114 kg) minimum capacity. Top of arm must be nominally 4 inch (100 mm) wide, and arm must have slots along full length for cable ties.
Retain "Fixed Manhole Ladders" or "Portable Manhole Ladders" Paragraph below, or both. Coordinate fixed ladder arrangement with manhole details on Drawings.
J. Fixed Manhole Ladders: Arranged for attachment to wall and floor of manhole. Ladder and mounting brackets and braces must be fabricated from nonconductive, structural-grade, fiberglass-reinforced resin.
K. Cover Hooks: Heavy duty, designed for lifts 60 lbf (270 N) and greater ladders(s) are required.
2.7 DUCT SEALING
A. Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide products by one of the following:
1. ABB, Electrification Business. 2. CommScope, Inc. 3. Gardner Bender. 4. Ideal Industries, Inc. 5. NSi Industries LLC. 6. TE Connectivity Ltd.
B. Duct-Sealing Compound: Nonhardening, safe for contact with human skin, not deleterious to cable insulation, and workable at temperatures as low as 35 deg F (2 deg C). Compound must be capable of withstanding temperature of 300 deg F (150 deg C) without slump and adhering to clean surfaces of plastic ducts, metallic conduit, conduit and duct coatings, concrete, masonry, lead, cable sheaths, cable jackets, insulation materials, and common metals. Duct sealing compound must be removable without damaging ducts or cables.
C. Inflatable Duct-Sealing System: Wraparound inflatable bladder that seals ducts that are empty or containing conductors against air and water infiltration. System is suitable for use in steel, plastic, or concrete ducts and penetrations.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 PREPARATION

A. Coordinate layout and installation of duct, duct bank, manholes, handholes, and boxes with final arrangement of other utilities, site grading, and surface features as determined in field. Notify Architect if there is conflict between areas of excavation and existing structures or archaeological sites to remain.
B. Coordinate elevations of duct and duct-bank entrances into manholes, handholes, and boxes with final locations and profiles of duct and duct banks, as determined by coordination with other utilities, underground obstructions, and surface features. Revise locations and elevations as required to suit field conditions and to ensure that duct and duct bank will drain to manholes and handholes, and as approved by Architect.
3.2 SELECTION OF UNDERGROUND DUCTS
See Underground Raceway Application Chart and "Underground Duct Installation Considerations" Article in the Evaluations. Coordinate with products listed in "Nonmetallic Duct and Duct Accessories" Article.
Verify application with utility if ducts are for service conductors provided by utility. See the Evaluations.
A. Duct for Electrical Feeders: PVC-40, concrete encased unless otherwise indicated.
3.3 SELECTION OF UNDERGROUND ENCLOSURES
Delete this article if Drawings indicate type and structural load rating of enclosure to be used for each application. Retain this article to specify types and structural load ratings of manholes, handholes, and pull boxes for various applications in Project. Options are examples only. Coordinate with Drawings. See "Underground Utility Structures" Article in the Evaluations.
Verify, with manufacturers, that units of types specified are available in sizes required. Indicate on Drawings the size of each enclosure, and use symbol or other notation to differentiate between manholes and handholes or boxes.
A. Manholes: Precast concrete.
Retain one of two subparagraphs below, or both, in accordance with load rating or ratings required for Project manholes. If retaining both, use notations on Drawings to indicate traffic level in each roadway where manhole is located.
1. Units Located in Roadways and Other Deliberate Traffic Paths by Heavy or Medium Vehicles: H-20 structural load rating in accordance with AASHTO HB 17.
2. Units Not Located in Deliberate Traffic Paths by Heavy or Medium Vehicles: H-10 load rating in accordance with AASHTO HB 17.

A. Excavation and Backfill: Comply with Section 26 00 90 "Electrical Earth Work," but do not use heavy-duty, hydraulic-operated, compaction equipment.
Retain four paragraphs below if Project requires restoration of disturbed features and areas.
B. Restoration: Restore area immediately after backfilling is completed.
C. Restore surface features at areas disturbed by excavation, and re-establish original grades unless otherwise indicated. Replace removed sod immediately after backfilling is completed.
D. Restore areas disturbed by trenching, storing of dirt, cable laying, and other work. Restore vegetation and include necessary topsoiling, fertilizing, liming, seeding, sodding, sprigging, and mulching. Comply with Section 32 92 00 "Turf and Grasses" and Section 32 93 00 "Plants."
E. Cut and patch existing pavement in path of underground duct, duct bank, and underground structures in accordance with "Cutting and Patching" Article in Section 01 73 00 "Execution."
3.5 INSTALLATION OF DUCTS AND DUCT BANKS
NFPA 70 and NECA NEIS 1 are already specified in Section 26 00 10 "Supplemental Requirements for Electrical." Retain "Reference Standards" Paragraph below to specify other standards applicable to Work specified in this Section.
A. Reference Standards:
For electrical-power duct bank, note that ampacity of cables may be reduced in duct bank of more than two tiers of two ducts each.
1. Unless more stringent requirements are specified in Contract Documents or manufacturers' published instructions, comply with NEMA TCB 2 for installation of underground ducts and duct banks.
2. Consult Architect for resolution of conflicting requirements.
B. Special Techniques:
Retain first subparagraph below when Project includes duct bank.
1. Where indicated on Drawings, install duct, spacers, and accessories into duct-bank configuration shown. Duct installation requirements in this Section also apply to duct bank.
2. Slope: Pitch duct minimum slope of 1:300 down toward manholes and handholes and away from buildings and equipment. Slope duct from high point between two manholes to drain in both directions.
Retain "Expansion and Deflection Fittings" Subparagraph below if differential settlement is anticipated where duct approaches manholes or handholes. Expansion and deflection fittings were available in metric designators 13 through 150 (trade sizes 1/2 through 6) with deflections of 3/4 inch (19 mm) or 30 degrees and expansion/contraction of 3/4 inch (19 mm) when this Section was written. accommodate straight line expansion/contraction that will accommodate up to 4 inch (100 mm) change in duct length are available in all sizes. Consult manufacturers for availability of larger sizes and for installation instructions. Coordinate with Drawings.
3. Expansion and Deflection Fittings: Install expansion and deflection fitting in each duct in area of disturbed earth adjacent to manhole or handhole.
4. Install expansion fitting near center of straight line duct with calculated expansion of more than 3/4 inch (19 mm).
Manufactured sweep bends in "Curves and Bends" Subparagraph below are available in various radii up to 25 ft (7.5 m) for 4 and 5 inch (100 and 125 mm) duct, although 48 inch (1200 mm) radius is largest regularly stocked. To minimize pulling tensions, specify largest radius possible, consistent with other Project requirements. See the Evaluations. Coordinate with Drawings.
5. Curves and Bends:
a. Use 5-degree angle couplings for small changes in direction. Use manufactured long sweep bends with minimum radius of 48 inch (1200 mm), both horizontally and vertically, at other locations unless otherwise indicated.
b. Field bending must be in accordance with NFPA 70 minimum radii requirements, except bends over 45 degrees must be made with minimum radius of 48 inch (1200 mm). Use only equipment specifically designed for material and size involved. Use PVC heating bender for bending PVC conduit.
Instruction below exceeds requirements of NFPA 70. c. Duct must have maximum of 180 degrees of bends between pull points.
Vertical staggering or random positioning of couplings and spacers along duct eliminate potential weak vertical shear planes in concrete encasements.
6. Joints: Use solvent-cemented joints in nonmetallic duct and fittings and make watertight in accordance with manufacturer's published instructions. Stagger couplings so those of adjacent duct do not lie in same plane. Couple steel conduits to ducts with adapters designed for this purpose, and encase coupling with minimum 3 inch (75 mm) of concrete for minimum of 12 inch (300 mm) on each side of coupling.
a. Install insulated grounding bushings on steel raceway terminations that are less than 12 inch (300 mm) below grade or floor level and do not terminate in hubs.
7. Installation Adjacent to High-Temperature Steam Lines: Where duct is installed parallel to underground steam lines, perform calculations showing duct will not be subject to environmental temperatures above 104 deg F (40 deg C). Where environmental temperatures are calculated to rise above 104 deg F (40 deg C), and anywhere duct crosses above underground steam line, install insulation blankets listed for direct burial to isolate duct bank from steam line to maintain maximum environmental temperature of 104 deg F (40 deg C).
Retain "End Bell Entrances to Manholes and Concrete and Polymer Concrete Handholes" Subparagraph below if using end bells.
8. End Bell Entrances to Manholes: Use end bells, spaced approximately 10 inch (250 mm) o.c. for 5 inch (125 mm) duct, and vary proportionately for other duct sizes.

a. Begin change from regular spacing to end-bell spacing 10 ft (3 m) from end bell, without reducing duct slope and without forming trap in line.
b. Grout end bells into structure walls from both sides to provide watertight entrances.
Retain "Duct Terminators for Entrances to Cast-in-Place Manholes and Concrete Handholes" Subparagraph below if using duct terminators.
Coordinate design of concrete-encased duct approaching building wall penetrations with building structural design to support ducts at wall, without reducing structural or watertight integrity of building. Do not use steel conduit, with or without PVC coating, in highly corrosive soils. Coordinate with Drawings.
Sleeves and sleeve seals for conduits penetrating building walls below grade are specified in Section 26 05 44 "Sleeves and Sleeve Seals for Electrical Raceways and Cabling."
9. Sealing: Provide temporary closure at terminations of duct with pulled cables. Seal spare duct at terminations. Use sealing compound and plugs to withstand at least 15 psig (1.03 MPa) hydrostatic pressure.
10. Pulling Cord: Install 200 lbf (1000 N) test nylon cord in empty ducts.
Controlled low-strength material, or CLSM, may be substituted for concrete in "Concrete-Encased Ducts and Duct Bank" Subparagraph below.
11. Concrete-Encased Ducts and Duct Bank:
a. Excavate trench bottom to provide firm and uniform support for duct. Prepare trench bottoms as specified in Section 26 00 90 "Electrical Earth Work" for pipes 6 inch (150 mm) or less in nominal diameter.
Retain first option in "Width" Subparagraph below if sides of excavation are used as forms and coordinate with "Minimum Space between Ducts" Subparagraph below. Retain second option if forms are installed to encase duct.
b. Width: Excavate trench 12 inch (300 mm) wider than duct on each side.
Requirements in "Depth" Subparagraph below exceed NFPA 70 requirements and are conservative. If required, depth (cover) requirements below can be deleted and NFPA 70 requirements will apply. In areas where ground freezes to greater depths, indicated depths may need to be increased.
c. Depth: Install so top of duct envelope is at least 24 inch (600 mm) below finished grade in areas not subject to deliberate traffic, and at least 30 inch (750 mm) below finished grade in deliberate traffic paths for vehicles unless otherwise indicated. Install so top of duct envelope is below local frost line.
d. Support duct on duct spacers coordinated with duct size, duct spacing, and outdoor temperature.
To comply with "Spacer Installation" Subparagraph below, Contractor may have to provide additional spacers to prevent sagging when temperature is high during construction. Additional spacers also reduce chance of floating or other movement during concreting.
e. Spacer Installation: Place spacers close enough to prevent sagging and deforming of duct, with not less than five spacers per 20 ft (6 m) of duct. Place spacers within 24 inch (600 mm) of duct ends. Stagger spacers approximately 6 inch (150 mm)

between tiers. Secure spacers to earth and to duct to prevent floating during concreting. Tie entire assembly together using fabric straps; do not use tie wires or reinforcing steel that may form conductive or magnetic loops around ducts or duct groups.
Delete "Minimum Space between Ducts" Subparagraph below if dimensioned duct-bank sections are indicated on Drawings.
f. Minimum Space between Ducts: 3 inch (75 mm) between edge of duct and exterior envelope wall, 2 inch (50 mm) between ducts for like services, and 4 inch (100 mm) between power and communications ducts.
Coordinate "Reinforcement" Subparagraph below with Drawings; consider indicating duct-bank reinforcement requirements on Drawings.
g. Reinforcement: Reinforce concrete-encased duct where crossing disturbed earth and where indicated. Arrange reinforcing rods and ties without forming conductive or magnetic loops around ducts or duct groups.
h. Forms: Use walls of trench to form side walls of duct bank where soil is self-supporting and concrete envelope can be poured without soil inclusions; otherwise, use forms.
Provide requirements for specific concrete mix for duct encasement. Add requirements here or by reference to specific mix in Section 03 30 00 "Cast-in-Place Concrete." Requirements below for separation between power and communications duct are identical to those specified in Section 27 05 43 "Underground Ducts and Raceways for Communications Systems."
i. Concrete Cover: Install minimum of 3 inch (75 mm) of concrete cover between edge of duct to exterior envelope wall, 2 inch (50 mm) between duct of like services, and 4 inch (100 mm) between power and communications ducts.
j. Place minimum 6 inch (150 mm) of engineered fill above concrete encasement of duct.
k. Pouring Concrete: Comply with requirements in "Concrete Placement" Article in Section 03 30 00 "Cast-in-Place Concrete." Place concrete carefully during pours to prevent voids under and between duct and at exterior surface of envelope. Do not allow heavy mass of concrete to fall directly onto ducts. Allow concrete to flow around duct and rise up in middle, uniformly filling open spaces. Do not use power-driven agitating equipment unless specifically designed for duct-installation application.
12. Underground-Line Warning Tape: Bury conducting underground line no less than 12 inch (300 mm) above concrete-encased duct and duct banks and approximately 12 inch (300 mm) below grade. Align tape parallel to and within 3 inch (75 mm) of centerline of duct bank. Provide additional warning tape for each 12 inch (300 mm) increment of duct-bank width over nominal 18 inch (450 mm). Space additional tapes 12 inch (300 mm) apart, horizontally across width of ducts.
3.6 INSTALLATION OF CONCRETE MANHOLES
Retain this article for both cast-in-place and precast manholes and for precast handholes.

NFPA 70 and NECA NEIS 1 are already specified in Section 26 00 10 "Supplemental Requirements for Electrical." Retain "Reference Standards" Paragraph below to specify other standards applicable to Work specified in this Section.
A. Reference Standards:
1. Precast Concrete Handholes: Comply with ASTM C891 unless otherwise indicated. 2. Consult Architect for resolution of conflicting requirements.
B. Special Techniques:
1. Cast-in-Place Manholes:
a. Finish interior surfaces with smooth-troweled finish.
Coordinate "Knockouts for Future Duct Connections" Subparagraph below with Drawings. b. Knockouts for Future Duct Connections: Form and pour concrete knockout panels
1-1/2 to 2 inch (38 to 50 mm) thick, arranged as indicated. c. Comply with requirements in Section 03 30 00 "Cast-in-Place Concrete" for cast-
in-place concrete, formwork, and reinforcement.
2. Precast Concrete Handholes and Manholes:
a. Install units level and plumb and with orientation and depth coordinated with connecting duct to minimize bends and deflections required for proper entrances.
b. Unless otherwise indicated, support units on level bed of crushed stone or gravel graded from 1 inch (25 mm) sieve to No. 4 (4.75 mm) sieve and compacted to same density as adjacent undisturbed earth.
c. Field-cut openings for conduits in accordance with enclosure manufacturer's published instructions. Cut wall of enclosure with tool designed for material to be cut. Size holes for terminating fittings to be used, and seal around penetrations after fittings are installed.
Coordinate "Elevations" Subparagraph below with Drawings. 15 inch (380 mm) minimum recessing below grade of manhole roof may permit backfilling and sodding over roof, so only cover is exposed. It also permits some leeway in final grading at manhole site. Difference between roof elevation and bottom of cover frame is made up by manhole chimney, specified to be constructed of precast concrete rings.
3. Elevations:
a. Manhole Roof: Install with rooftop at least 15 inch (375 mm) below finished grade.
b. Manhole Frame: In paved areas and trafficways, set frames flush with finished grade. Set other manhole frames 1 inch (25 mm) above finished grade.
Retain "Drainage" Subparagraph below if drain lines for underground structures are provided. Coordinate with site drainage design and Drawings.

4. Drainage: Install drains in bottom of manholes where indicated. Coordinate with drainage provisions indicated.
Revise "Manhole Access" Subparagraph below if other-than-round, cast-iron frame and cover are used for access to manholes.
5. Manhole Access: Circular opening in manhole roof; sized to match cover size.
a. Manholes with Fixed Ladders: Offset access opening from manhole centerlines to align with ladder.
b. Install chimney, constructed of precast concrete collars and rings, and cast-iron frame to connect cover with manhole roof opening. Provide moisture-tight joints and waterproof grouting for frame and chimney.
Retain "Waterproofing" or "Dampproofing" Subparagraph below, or both, if concrete utility structures are to be waterproofed or dampproofed. Concrete underground utility structures may be waterproofed or dampproofed when installed in wet locations, such as where walls (and perhaps roofs) are below nominal water-table elevation. Water will likely enter through ducts as well as through structure walls so water removal is a concern even in waterproofed units. Dampproofing inhibits water flow through concrete, and waterproofing further reduces leakage.
6. Waterproofing: Apply waterproofing to exterior surfaces of manholes after concrete has cured at least three days. After duct has been connected and grouted, and before backfilling, waterproof joints and connections, and touch up abrasions and scars. Waterproof exterior of manhole chimneys after mortar has cured at least three days.
Coordinate "Hardware" Subparagraph below with Drawings. Delete second option if nonmetallic cable racks are specified. Indicate locations and quantities of required hardware on Drawings.
7. Hardware: Install removable hardware, including pulling eyes, cable stanchions, and cable arms, and insulators, as required for installation and support of cables and conductors and as indicated.
Delete "Fixed Manhole Ladders" Subparagraph below if manhole ladder locations are indicated on Drawings.
8. Fixed Manhole Ladders: Arrange to provide for safe entry with maximum clearance from cables and other items in manholes.
9. Ground manholes, handholes, and boxes in accordance with Section 26 05 26 "Grounding and Bonding for Electrical Systems."
3.7 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL
Retain first paragraph below to require that field quality-control tests be witnessed. Local ordinance or custom may require that authorities having jurisdiction witness the testing.

1. Demonstrate capability and compliance with requirements on completion of installation of underground duct, duct bank, and utility structures.
2. Pull solid aluminum or wood test mandrel through duct to prove joint integrity and adequate bend radii, and test for out-of-round duct. Provide minimum 12 inch (300 mm) long mandrel equal to duct size minus 1/4 inch (6 mm). If obstructions are indicated, remove obstructions and retest.
3. Test manhole grounding to ensure electrical continuity of grounding and bonding connections. Measure and report ground resistance as specified in Section 26 05 26 "Grounding and Bonding for Electrical Systems."
See Section 01 40 00 "Quality Requirements" for retesting and reinspecting requirements and Section 01 73 00 "Execution" for requirements for correcting the Work.
C. Nonconforming Work:
1. Underground ducts, raceways, and structures will be considered defective if they do not pass tests and inspections.
2. Correct deficiencies and retest as specified above to demonstrate compliance.
D. Assemble and submit test and inspection reports.
E. Manufacturer Services:
1. Engage factory-authorized service representative to support field tests and inspections.

GENERAL NOTES:A. It shall be the responsibility of each contractor to verify all existing utilities and
