TheseRulesofShootingareapprovedbyArcheryGBtogiveguidancetoarcherssotheymaypracticetheirsportandengageinsafe,faircompetitionwithaspiritoffriendlyrivalry,allinkeepingwithourmottoof“Union,TrueheartandCourtesie”.Archers,judgesandothersinterpretingtheserulesareexpectedtodososensiblyandrealistically.

AmendmentProcedures1. ProposalsorsuggestionsforchangestotheseRulesofShootingshouldinitiallybeforwardedin

writingtotheChairmanoftheRulesCommitteeviaMembershipServices.2. TheChairmanoftheRulesCommitteewillconsultanyrelevantCommitteeChairman.3. If a change is agreed inprinciple, aproposalwill thenbedraftedby theRulesCommittee in

conjunction with the relevant Committee and put before the Operations Committee forconsideration. If agreed, a proposalwill be published in ArcheryUK and on theArcheryGBwebsiteandcommentsinvitedfromthemembership.

4. Members commentsmust be received atMembership Serviceswithin twomonths from the

weektheArcheryUKispublished.5. Attheendofthisconsultationperiod,anycommentsreceivedwillbeforwardedtotheRules

Committee for consideration and consultation with the relevant committee. The RulesCommitteewillsubsequentlyformulateafinalproposaltosubmittotheOperationsCommittee.

6. ThefinalproposalwillbeconsideredbytheOperationsCommittee. Ifagreementisobtained

from this Committee, the new rule will be published in Archery UK and on the Archery GBwebsite.

7. AfterapprovalbytheOperationsCommittee,thenewrulewillbecomeeffectiveonthefollowing

1stAprilor1stOctober,whicheveroccursfirst.8. Notwithstandingtheproceduresgivenabove,changestotheRulesofShootingregardingurgent

Introduction1. GenderTheRulesarewritteninthemasculineforsimplicityandavoidanceofrepetition.Unlessthecontextdeemsotherwise,allreferencestomalesreferequallytofemales.2. WorldArchery(WA)(a) ArcheryGBisaMemberAssociationofWorldArchery(WA),theinternationalgoverningbody

forarcheryrecognisedbytheInternationalOlympicCommittee.WorldArcherywaspreviouslyknownastheFederationInternationaldeTiràl'Arc(FITA).

(b) TherearemanysimilaritiesbetweenWARulesandthoseinthisbook.However,manyoftheWA rules are geared to the stagingofworld championshipevents.Accordingly, shootingwillnormallybetotheArcheryGBRulespublishedherein;WArulesmayapplywhenWArecognisedroundsareshotandguidanceisgivenontheapplicationofWAruleswhenshootingatalllevelsoftournament.

PART1BOWSAFETY101.Introduction(a) These bow safety rules apply to all archery disciplines. Other safety rules are given in the

separatePartsoftheseRules.(b) EachmemberofArcheryGBhasadutyofcaretoensurethathisactionsdonotcompromisethe

safetyofhimselforothers.102. General(a) Noarchermaydrawhisbow,withorwithoutanarrow,exceptwhenstandingattheshooting

lineorpeg. Ifanarrow isused, thearcher shallaimtoward the targetsbutonlyafterbeingsatisfiedthatthefieldisclearbothinfrontofandbehindthetargets.

(b) Whendrawingbackthestringofthebowanarchershallnotuseanytechniquewhich, intheopinionofthejudges,could,ifaccidentallyloosed,allowthearrowtoflybeyondasafetyzoneor safety arrangements (overshoot area, net,wall, etc). If an archerpersists in using such atechnique,hewill,intheinterestofsafety,beimmediatelyaskedbytheJudgetostopshootingandtoleavethearea.

(c) Ifanyonepresentwherearcheryistakingplacebecomesawarethatshootingshouldbehaltedfor safety reasons, that person must call “FAST”. On hearing this call, all archers mustimmediatelystopshooting,returningallunshotarrowstothequiver. Ifnecessary,thecallof“FAST” shouldbe repeatedbyotherarchers toensure thateveryonehasheardand stoppedshooting.ShootingwillrecommenceonlyontheinstructionoftheJudge.

(d) TheJudge, inconsultationwiththeappointedtournamentorganiserisempoweredtorequireanyindividualwhoisconsideredtobejeopardisingthesafetyofthetournamenttoimmediatelyleavetheshootingground.

103. NumbersPresent(a) Whenanyshootingisinprogresstheremustbeaminimumoftwopeoplepresenteachbeinga

minimumof18yearsofage,oneofwhommaybeanon-archertoactasalookout.Thearcherisresponsibletoinformthelookoutofallsafetyaspectsapplicable.Wheretwoadultarchersarepresentandshootingtogethertheywillalternateontheshootinglinesothatthenon-shootingarchercanactasthelookout.

(b) Juniors. Whenjuniorarchers(iearchersunder18)areshootingindividuallyoringroupstheymustbe supervisedbyanadultmember (excludinghonorarymembers)ofArcheryGBandasecondadultmustbepresent.

(c) Onprivatelandwhichisfencedallround,wherethepublichasnolegalrightofaccessandwithawarningnoticedisplayedatallentrancesandpointsofaccess,thefollowingconcessionsmayapplynotwithstandingtheprovisionsof103(a)and(b)above:(i) Soloshootingbyseniorarchers(iearchers18andover)ispermitted.Anymembershooting

ontheirownisdoingsoattheirownriskinrespectofpersonalinjuries.(ii) Providedthattheyareanadultmember(excludinghonorarymembers)ofArcheryGB,one

parent/guardianalonemaysupervisehis/herownchild(ren).104. CrossbowSafety(a) AcrossbowmayNOTbedrawnorcockedexceptontheshootinglineandinthedirectionofthe

targets, after the arbalist has ensured that the field is clear both in front of and behind thetargets.

(b) Ifshootingisinterruptedforanyreason,crossbowsshallbeloweredimmediatelysothattheyaredirectedatthegroundimmediatelyinfrontoftheshootinglineandtheboltremoved.

(c) Nopersonlessthan12yearsofagemayshootormanipulateacrossbow.

PART2BOWSTYLES201. Introduction and General Rules The recognised bowstyles are given below. AdditionalinformationisalsoprovidedwherenecessarywithintheRulesforeachseparatearcherydiscipline.Thefollowinggeneralrulesapplytoallbowstyles:(a) VisualAids.

(i) Fieldglasses,telescopesandothervisualaidsmaybeusedforspottingarrows.(ii) Prescription spectacles or shooting spectacles, provided they are fitted with the same

lensesnormallywornbythearcher,andsunglassesmaybeused.Theglassofthenon-sightingeyemaybefullycoveredortaped,oraneyepatchmaybeused.

(iii) Novisualaidmaybefittedwithmicroholelenses,orsimilardevices,normarkedinanywaywhichcanassistinaiming.

(b) Accessories.Accessoriesarepermittedsuchaslimbsavers,bracer,dressshield,bowsling,beltorgroundquiver,andtassel.Footmarkersarealsopermittedbutmustnotprotrudeabovethegroundmorethanonecentimetre.

(c) Broad-head, edged, bodkin, silver spoon and any other large diameter arrow piles are notpermitted.

(d) Anarcher’sequipmentmustnotrepresentanundueobstacletootherarchersontheshootingline.

(e) Itisthearcher’sresponsibilitytouseequipmentwhichcomplieswiththerules.AnyarcherfoundtobeusingequipmentcontraveningtheseRulesmayhavehisscoresdisqualified.

202. Recurve(Freestyle)Thefollowingitemsarepermitted:(a) Bow

(i) Abowofanytypeprovideditsubscribestotheacceptedprincipleandmeaningofthewordbowasused inarchery, e.g., an instrument consistingof ahandle(grip), riser (no shootthroughtype)andtwoflexiblelimbseachendinginatipwithastringnock.

(ii) Thebowisbracedforusebyasinglestringattacheddirectlybetweenthetwostringnocksonly,andinoperationisheldinonehandbyitshandle(grip)whilethefingersoftheotherhanddraw,holdbackandreleasethestring.

(iii) Multi coloured bow risers and trademarks located on the inside of the upper limb arepermitted.

(b)Bowstring(i) Abowstringofanynumberofstrandsthatmaybeofdifferentcoloursandofthematerial

chosen for the purpose with a centre serving to accommodate the drawing fingers, anockingpointtowhichmaybeaddedserving(s)tofitthearrownockasnecessary,andtolocate this point, one or two nock locatorsmay be positioned, and at each end of thebowstringalooptobeplacedinthestringnocksofthebowwhenbraced.

(ii) Inadditiononeattachmentispermittedonthestringtoserveasalipornosemark.Theservingonthestringmustnotendwithinthearcher'svisionatfulldraw.Thebowstringmustinnowayofferaidinaimingthroughapeephole,markingoranyothermeans.

(c) Arrowrest(i) Anarrowrest,whichcanbeadjustable,anymoveablepressurebutton,pressurepointor

arrowplatemayallbeusedonthebowprovidedtheyarenotelectricorelectronicanddonotofferanyadditionalaidinaiming.

(ii) Thepressurepointshallbeplacednofurtherthan4cmback(inside)fromthethroatofthehandle(pivotpoint)ofthebow.

(d) Draw Check Indicator A draw check indicator, audible and/or visual, other than electric orelectronic,maybeused.

(e) BowsightAbowsightispermitted,butatnotimemaymorethanonesuchdevicebeused.Itshallnotincorporateaprism,lens,oranyothermagnifyingdevice,levelling,electricorelectronicdevicesnorshallitprovideformorethanonesightingpoint.

(i) Theoverall lengthofthesightingcircleorpoint(tunnel,tube,sightingpinorothercorrespondingextendedcomponent)shallnotexceed2cminthelineofvisionoftheathlete.

(ii) Asightmaybeattachedtothebowforthepurposeofaimingandwhichmayallowforwindageadjustmentaswellasanelevationsetting.Itissubjecttothefollowingprovisions:a. Abowsightextensionispermitted;b. Aplateortapewithdistancemarkingmaybemountedonthesightasaguide

formarking,butshallnotinanywayofferanyadditionalaid;c. Thesightpointmaybeafibreopticsightpin.Thetotallengthofthefibreoptic

pinmayexceed2cm,providedthatoneend isattachedoutsidetheathlete’slineofvisionatfulldraw,whilethepartwithintheathlete’slineofvisiondoesnot exceed 2cm in a straight line before bending. It can only provide oneilluminated aiming spot at full draw. The fibre optic pin is measuredindependentlyofthetunnel.

(f) StabilizersandTorqueFlightCompensators.Stabilizersandtorqueflightcompensatorsonthebowarepermittedprovidedtheydonot:(i) Serveasastringguide;(ii) Touchanythingbutthebow;

(g) Arrows.(i) Arrowsofany typemaybeusedprovided theycomplywith theacceptedprincipleand

meaningofthewordarrowasusedinarchery,andthatsucharrowsdonotcauseunduedamagetotargetfacesorbuttresses.Themaximumdiameterofthearrowshaftshallnotexceed9.3mm.

(ii) Anarrowconsistsofashaftwithatip(point),nocks,fletchingand,ifdesired,cresting.Themaximum diameter of arrow shafts shall not exceed 9.3mm (arrowwraps shall not beconsideredaspartofthislimitationaslongtheydonotextendfurtherthan22cmtowardthepointofthearrowwhenmeasuredfromthethroat-nockholewherethestringsits-ofthenocktotheendofthewrap);thetips(points)forthesearrowsmayhaveamaximumdiameterof9.4mm.

(iii) Allarrowsofeveryarchershallbemarkedwiththearcher‘snameorinitialsontheshaft.Allarrowsusedinanyendshallbeidenticalandshallcarrythesamepatternandcolour(s)offletching,nocksandcresting,ifany.Tracernocks(electrically/electronicallylightedarrownocks)arenotallowed.

(h) HandProtection.(i) Fingerprotectionintheformoffingerstallsortips,gloves,orshootingtabortape(plaster)

todraw,holdbackandreleasethestringispermitted,providedthatsuchprotectiondoesnotincorporateanydevicetohold,drawandreleasethestring.

(ii) Aseparatorbetweenthefingerstopreventpinchingthearrowand/oraplatformtabmaybeused.

(iii) Onthebowhandanordinaryglove,mittenorsimilaritemmaybewornbutshallnotbeattachedtothegrip.

203. WAStandardBowTheWAStandardBowisasimplifiedformoftherecurvebowandisfullydescribedinWAConstitution&Rules.

204. RecurveBarebowRecurveBarebowisgenerallyasdescribedforRecurve(Freestyle)inRule202withthefollowingvariations:

(a) Bow(i) The bowmust be bare, except for itemsmentioned below, and free from protrusions,

marks,blemishesorlaminatedpieceswhichcouldbeofuseinaiming.Multi-colouredrisersarepermitted.

(ii) Integrallyfittedtorqueflightcompensatorsarepermittedprovidedthattheyarenotfittedwith stabilizers. Weights may be added to the lower part of the riser. All weights,regardless of shape,mustmount directly to the riserwithout rods, extensions, angularmountingconnectionsorshockabsorbingdevices.

(b) Bowstring.Thereshallbenoattachmentonthestringtoserveasalipornosemark.(c) Arrowrest.Thepressurepointshallbeplacednofurtherthan2cmback(inside)fromthethroat

ofthehandle(pivotpoint)ofthebow(d) Exclusions.Recurvebarebowarchersmaynotuse:

(i) Sights.(ii) Drawcheckindicator.(iii) Stabilizers.

205. RecurveTraditionalTheRecurveTraditionalisgenerallyasdescribedforRecurveBarebowinRule204butwiththefollowingvariations:(a) Arrows. Arrow shafts shall be made of wood but with no limit as to maximum diameter.

Fletchingsshallbeofnaturalfeather;metallicpilesandplasticnocksmaybeused.(b) Arrowrest.Thearrowrestmustnotbeadjustable.Apressurebuttonisnotpermitted.(c) ShootingStyle.Archersmustadheretooneanchorpointandonefingerpositiononthestring

throughoutatournament.206. Longbow(a) Bow. Thebowshallbe the traditional longbowmade fromwood,either “self”, “backed”,or

“laminated”withcambered(stacked)bellyandhornnocks.Withtheexceptionofthe“self”bow,eachlimbofthebowshallformasinglesimplecurvefromthehandletothenockwhenatfulldraw.Thebowshallbenotlessthanfivefeetinlengthforanarrowoflessthan27inchesand;notlessthanfivefeetsixinchesinlengthfora27”orlongerarrow,thisbeingmeasuredalongthebackbetweenthestringnocks.Atnopointshallthedepthofthebow,measuredfrombacktobelly,belessthan5/8(fiveeighths)ofthewidthofthebowatthesamesection.Thebowmaycarrynosupportforthearrow.Bowsofbamboo,constructedinconformitywiththeabove,shallbepermitted.

(b) String.Thestringmaybeofeithernaturalorman-madesubstance,andmay,ifdesired,embodya “kisser” at any point as required to facilitate a consistent draw position, but for no otherpurpose.

(c) SightsandGroundMarkers.Asight,assuch,isnotpermittedbutoneofthefollowingmaybeused:(i) Amarkonthebowlimb.(ii) Arubberbandofnomorethan1/8”indepthandthickness.(iii) Agroundmarkerofanydesignprovideditdoesnotexceedaheightfromthegroundof6

inchesoradiameterof3inchesorimpedeanyotherarcher.(d) Arrows.Arrowsshallhavewoodensteles(shafts),shallbefittedwithfeatherfletchings,andmay

have either horn-reinforced, self or applied nocks. There is no limit to themaximum shaftdiameter.Thepileshallnotexceedthediameteroftheshaftatthepointoffitment.Shoulderedpiles,whilstnotdisallowed,shouldbeavoidedbecauseofexcessdamagetotargets. Arrowsshallbeproperlymarked,sothatthereshallbenodifficultyinclaimingthem.

(e) HandProtection(i) Fingerprotectionintheformoffingerstallsortips,gloves,orshootingtabortape(plaster)

todraw,holdbackandreleasethestringispermitted,providedthatsuchprotectiondoesnotincorporateanydevicetohold,drawandreleasethestring.

(ii) Aseparatorbetweenthefingerstopreventpinchingthearrowand/oraplatformtabmaybeused.Anextensionsoastoprovideagreaterangle,priortorelease,otherthanthatachieved by the use of a normal tab, glove or other form of finger protection, is notpermitted.

(iii) Onthebowhandanordinaryglove,mittenorsimilaritemmaybewornbutshallnotbeattachedtothegrip.

206AAmericanFlatbow(a) Bow.Thebowshallcorrespondtothetraditionalformofalongbowwhichmeansthatwhen

strungthestringmaynottouchanyotherpartofthebowbutthestringnocks.Thebowmaybemade fromanymaterialor combinationofmaterial. The shapeof thegrip isnot restricted.Centreshotisallowed.Forwomenthebowwillnotbelessthan150cminlength,formenthebowwillbenotlessthan160cminlength–thislengthbeingmeasuredonastrungbowbetweenthe string nocks all along the outside of the limbs. No weights, stabilisers or torque flightcompensatorsareallowed

(b) String.Thebowstringmaycompriseofanynumberofstrandswhichmaybedifferentcoloursand of the material chosen for the purpose. The string may have a centre serving toaccommodatethedrawingfingers,asinglenockingpointtowhichmaybeaddedserving(s)tofitthearrownockasnecessary,andtolocatethispoint1or2nocklocatorsmaybepositionedandateachendofthebowstringalooptobeplacedinthestringnocksofthebowwhenbraced.Theservingonthestringmustnotendwithintheathlete’svisionatfulldraw.Thebowstringmustnotinanywayassistaimingthroughtheuseofapeephole,marking,oranyothermeans.Nolipornosemarkispermitted. Stringsilencersarepermittedprovidedtheyarelocatednocloserthan30cmfromthenockingpoint.

304. Shooting(a) Shooting shall be from an unsupported standing positionwith the body above the shooting

line.Disabledarchersmayuseappropriatesupport.(b) (i) Theorderinwhicharchersshallshootattheirrespectivetargetsshallbetheorderin

whichtheyappearonthetargetlistandthedrawingupofthetargetlistshallbeamatterforarrangementbytheTournamentOrganisers.Unlessotherwisedirected,thearchersoneachtargetshallbedesignatedA,B.C,D,etc.intheorderinwhichtheyappearonthetargetlist.ThearcherdesignatedCshallbetheTargetCaptainandthearcherdesignatedDshallbetheLieutenant. TheCaptainshallberesponsiblefortheorderlyconductofshootinginaccordancewiththeseRulesofShooting.

(ii) The order of shooting at all Record Status Tournaments shall rotate. For otherTournaments,includingClubTargetDays,rotationshallbeoptional.

(c) Atatournamentif,foranyreasonanarcherisaloneonatargethemustnotifytheJudgewhoshallarrangeforscoringintegritytobemaintained.Thismaybeachievedbytransferringarchersbetweentargetsorbyarrangingforanarcheronanadjacenttargettoparticipateinscoringthelonearcher’sarrows.

(d) Themaximumnumberofarchersonatargetshallbesix.(e) CompositionofEnds

(i) ForallImperialrounds,theLongMetricroundsandthetwolongestdistancesoftheMetricI-Vrounds,sixarrowsshallbeshotatanend.

(ii) ForotherMetricroundseitherthreeorsixarrowsmaybeshotatanend.(f) TimingofEnds.Archerswillshootendsofthreeorsixarrows,asrequiredbytheroundbeing

shot,underoneofthefollowingmethodscontrolledbytheJudge:(i) Method1.

a. Onesoundsignalshallindicatewhenthefirstshootingdetailshalltaketheirplaceonthelineandbeginshooting.Eacharchershallshootthreearrowsandimmediatelyretire,beingreplacedbythearcherfromthesubsequentdetail.Whenallonatargethaveshot,thearcher,ifrequired,shallshootthreemorearrows.Ifanarcherpersistsin shootingmore than three arrows consecutively, hemay be disqualified by theJudge.

b. Whenallarchershaveshot,threesoundsignalsshallindicatethatarchersaretomoveforwardtoscoreandcollectarrows.Noarchershalladvancefromtheshootinglinebeforereceivingthesignal.

c. Two and a halfminutes shall be themaximum time for an archer to shoot threearrows,thetimetostartfromwhenthearcherstepsontotheshootingline.

d. Anyarcherwhoisobservedtobeexceedingthetimelimitof2½minutesforthreearrowsshallbeadvisedofthetimeerrorafterretiringfromtheshootingline.Thescoresheetforthatarchershallbemarkedatthatendtorecordthewarninginthefollowingmanner—“Timewarning”.Thearcherwillalsobeadvisedthatanyfurtherviolationofthe2½minutetimelimitwillresultinthetopscoringarrowofthatendbeingdisallowed. Shouldthiscontinuetothedetrimentof theshootor theotherarchers on that target, the offending archer will be asked to retire from thetournament.

(ii) Method2.Shootingshallbeintimedendscontrolledbyaudiblesignalswhichmaybesupplementedwithlights(threeseparatelightsshouldbeused)andcountdowntimingclocks.Thesequenceandarrangementsareasfollows:a. Twoaudiblesignalsforarchersinthefirstdetailtotaketheirpositionsonthe

anarchermayremainontheshootinglinetokeepcompanywithanotherarcherstillshooting.(h) Whileshootingisinprogress,onlythosecompetitorswhoseturnit istoshootmaybeonthe

shootingline.Allothercompetitorswiththeirequipment,shallremainbehindthewaitinglinesavethatanarchermayleaveaspottingscopeontheshootinglinebetweenendsprovidingitdoesnotcreateanobstacleforanyotherarcher.AJudgeshallusediscretioninallowingdisabledarchersand/ortheirequipmenttoremainonthelineifcircumstancespermit.

(j) AtanyMeetingsixarrowsmaybeshotassightersbeforethebeginningofeachround,butonlyaftercompetitorshavecomeundertheJudge’sordersattheAssembly.Suchsightersshallnotberecorded.

(k) Anarchermayonlycompeteonce,thefirsttimeofshooting,inanyeventregardlessoftheclassofequipmentused,thenumberofsessions intheeventandwhethertheeventextendsovermorethanoneday.

(l) Whilstanarcherisontheshootingline,heshallreceivenoinformationbywordorotherwisefromanyoneexcepttheJudge.

(m) Ifforanycause,otherthanfailureofhisequipment,anarcherisnotpreparedtoshootbeforeallhaveshot,sucharchershalllosethebenefitofthatend.

(n) IntheeventofanequipmentfailurethearchershallsignalaJudge.Extratimeuptoamaximumof 15minutesmay be allowed for the correction of the failure. The archer shall shoot anyremainingarrowsfromtheendattheearliestopportunityunderthesupervisionoftheJudge.

(o) Shouldanitemofequipmentotherthanthearrowbeprojectedbeyondtheshootingline,theJudgemaycall‘Fast’attheconclusionofthatendtopermitretrievaloftheitem,thefailuretoberectifiedandthearcherallowedtoshootanyremainingarrowsbeforethefieldadvancestoscore.

(p) Intheeventofanarchershootingmorethanthespecifiednumberofarrowsatanendthearchershallbepenalisedbylosingthevalueofhisbestarrow(s)inthetarget,andsucharrow(s)shallnotbemeasuredforaGoldprize.

(q) Providedthatithasnotrebounded,anarrowshallbedeemednottohavebeenshotifpartofthearrowshaftlieswithin3metresoftheshootingline.Inthiscaseanotherarrowmaybeshotinitsplace.IfanotherarrowisnotavailablethearchermayretrievethearrowonlywiththeJudge’spermission.

(r) Archersarrivinglateshallnotbeallowedtomakeupanyendsthattheyhavemissed.(s) (i) AnarchermayretirefromcompetitionatanytimebytellingtheTargetCaptainwhowill

markthearcher’sscoresheet‘retired’andthearcherwillsignit.(ii) IfaTargetCaptainperceivesthatatargetcompanionhasdeliberatelynotshotanendhe

mustdrawthistothejudge’sattention.Unlessthearcherhasobtainedthejudge’spermis-sion tomiss the end the judgewill instruct the Target Captain tomark the scoresheet‘retired’andthejudgewillsignit.

(iii) Anyscoremarked‘retired’willnotbeeligibleforaplacingintheresultsbutwillbeshownseparatelyattheendoftheresultswiththescoreatretirementandthenumberofdozensshot.Thearcherwillbeeligibleforawardsachievedtothatpointe.g.bestgold,distanceawardorsixgoldbadgebutnotforinclusioninateamscoreoranyotherArcheryGBaward.

305. ControlofShooting(a) (i) Atalltimes,whenevershootingtakesplace,itmustbeunderthecontrolofaFieldCaptain.

(ii) Atrecordstatusmeetings,theFieldCaptainshallbeaJudgerecognisedbyArcheryGB.Thegrade of judge-in-charge required for each level of tournament and other relevantinformationisgivenatAppendixB.

(iii) Atnon-recordstatusmeetingsaJudgemayappointexperiencedarchersasassistantFieldCaptains tohelp in the runningofa shoot. A Judgemaydelegatehisauthority to suchappointedassistants

(iv) AttournamentstheJudgeandFieldCaptainsshallbenon-shooting.(v) ForthepurposesoftheseRules,thetermJudgeshallembracebothJudgeandFieldCaptain

unlessthecontextindicatesotherwise.(b) TheJudgeshallbeinsolecontroloftheshooting,shallresolvealldisputesinaccordancewith

theRulesofShootingandmakeanynecessaryinterpretationandanydecisiononoccurrencesnotcoveredbythem.

(c) TheJudgeshallgivethesignalforassembly15minutesbeforethetimeappointedforshooting.(d) TheJudgeshallberesponsibleformeasuringarrowsforthepurposeofGoldprizes.(e) TheJudgeshallbeempoweredtodisqualifyanyarcherifheobservesanybreachoftheShooting

RulesorhasanysuchbreachreportedtohimbyaFieldCaptainorTargetCaptain.(f) TheJudgemayorderthereplacementofafaultytarget,ormaymovethearcherstoausable

one.(g) TheJudge,inconsultationwiththeSecretaryorOrganiser,shallberesponsiblefor

(i) Decidingthedurationofintervalsformeals,refreshmentsandthelike.(ii) Suspendingshootingduetoweatherconditions,accidentsorlikeoccurrences.(iii) Makinganyotherarrangementsasneededineachcase.

(h) Competitors’equipmentmaybecheckedbythejudgesbeforeandatanytimeduringtheshoot.(j) The Judge shall exercise control over the use of loudspeakers and photographers and the

presenceofotherspectatorssothatthecomfortandconcentrationofcompetitors isnotdis-turbed.

(k) (i) If an archer,while drawinghis bowwith an arrowbefore the shooting starts or duringbreaksbetweendistances,loosesanarrow,intentionallyorotherwise,theJudgeshallmakeanoteonthearcher’sscoresheetindicatingwhathasoccurred.Suchanarrowshallformpartofthenextscoringend.Aftertheremainingarrowsofthenextscoringendhavebeenshot,thevalueofthehighestscoringarrowwillbeforfeit.TheJudgeshalltakepartinthatcompetitor’sscoringandannotatethearcher’sscoresheetaccordingly.

(ii) Similarly,ifanarchershootsasighterarrowbeforeorafterthesignalsindicatingthetimeallowedtoshoot,suchanarrowshallcountaspartofthenextendofscoringarrowstobeshotandtheproceduredetailedaboveshouldbefollowed.

(c) (i) It ismandatory to adopt a systemof scoringwhich prevents any archer being the solerecorderofhisownscore.ApprovedsystemsofscoringareincludedinAppendixA.

(ii) Allscoresmustberecordedinapermanentblueorblackmediumi.e.notpencilorerasableballpoint.

(d) Thescorershallentertotalsasrequiredonthescoresheet.Thearcherandthescorershallthencheckthescoresheetandsignitascorrect.Itiseacharcher’sindividualresponsibilitytoensurethatallaspectsofhisscoresheetarecorrectwhentheysign. A tournamentorganiser isnotrequiredtochecktheadditionsonascoresheetbut,ifanerrorisdiscovered,hasdiscretiontoaltertotalsaccordingly.

(e) Ifanarrowtouchestwocoloursoranydividinglineitshallbescoredasbeingofthatofthehighervalue.

(f) Ifanydoubtordisputeastoarrowvalueshallarise itshallbedecidedbytheTargetCaptainsubjecttoappealtotheJudge,whosedecisionshallbefinal.

(g) AnyalterationtotherecordedarrowvaluemustbeinitialledbytheJudgeinadifferentcolouredinkpriortothewithdrawalofthearrowfromthetarget.Noarrowsshallbewithdrawnfromthetarget(withouttheexpressdirectionoftheTargetCaptain)untilallthearchers’scoreshavebeen entered on the score sheet and the Target Captain is satisfied that they are correctlyentered.

(h) (i) If an arrow is observed to rebound froma target, the archer concerned shall draw theattentionoftheJudgetothefactafterhavingshothissixtharrow(orthirdifshootinginendsof3only)byretiringtwopacesfromtheshootinglineandholdinghisbowabovehishead.

(ii) UpontheJudgesatisfyinghimselfthattheclaimisjustified,thearchershallbepermittedtoshootanotherarrowseparately inthesameendafterallarchersonthattargethavecompletedtheirnormalshooting,sucharrowtobenumberedorpreferablymarkedbytheJudge.

(iii) The Judge shall take part in that competitor’s scoring to ensure that only the correctnumberofarrowsarescored,andthat thereboundwasnotcausedbystrikinganotherarrowalreadyinthetarget.

(iv) Topreventfrivolousreboundclaims,thearcheristobewarnedindividuallythatifthefullnumberoforiginalarrows(6or3asappropriatetotheround)wereshotnotincludingarebound,thenhishighestscoringarrowmay,atthediscretionoftheJudgeonrepetitionofafalseclaim,bedeductedfromthatend’sscore.

(k) AnarrowpassingthroughthetargetfacebutremaininginthebossshallbewithdrawnbytheTargetCaptainorLieutenantandshallbeinsertedfromthebackinthesameplaceandattheassumedangleoforiginalpenetrationuntilthepileisvisibleinthetargetface,whenthescoreshallbedetermined.

(l) Anarrowhittingand remainingembedded inanotherarrowshallbe scored the sameas thearrowstruck.

(m) Anarrowinthetarget,whichhasormayhavebeendeflectedbyanotherarrowalreadyinthetarget,shallbescoredaccordingtothepositionofitsshaftinthetargetface.

(n) Anarrowonthegroundbelievedtohavehitandreboundedfromanotherarrowshallbescoredthe valueof the struck arrow, if the latter is found in the targetwith its nockdamaged in acompatiblemanner.

(o) Ifanarrowfailstoenterthebossandishanginginthetargetface,thenallarchersusingthatbossshallstopshootingandsignalajudge.Theactionsaredependentonthetimingmethodinuse,seeRule304(f).(i) UsingMethod1.Thejudgecalls“Fast”tostopallshooting.Thearcherwiththehanging

arrowshallgotothetargetwiththejudge,whoshallscorethearrow,removeitfromthetargetandplaceitbehindthetarget.Whenthefieldisclear,thejudgeshallsignalshootingtocontinuewithaonesoundsignal.

(ii) UsingMethod2.Attheendofthecurrentshootingperiodthejudgeshallstoptheshoot.Thearcherwiththehangingarrowshallgotothetargetwiththejudge,whoshallscorethearrow,removeitfromthetargetandplaceitbehindthetarget.Whenthefieldisclear,thejudgeshallsupervisethearchersusingthatbosswhilsttheyshoottheirun-shotarrows,allowing40secondsperarrow.Thereafter,theshootshallcontinue.

The Judge shall ensure that the appropriate score is recorded when scoring takes place. Ahangingarrowthatfallsoutbeforeitcanbescoredshallbetreatedasabouncer.

(p) Anarrowhittingatargetfaceotherthanthearcher'sowndesignatedfaceshallbeconsideredaspartofthatendandshallbescoredasamiss.

(q) Anarchermaydelegateanotherarcheronthesametargettorecordhisscoreandpickuphisarrows.

(r) Anincapacitatedarchermaynominateanassistant,whoshallbeunderthecontrolanddisciplineoftheJudge,torecordhisscoreandpickuphisarrows.

Targets shall be arranged along a coursewith suchdifficulties in aiming and shooting as theterrainpresentsandthespiritandtraditionsofthedisciplinerequire.Directionindicatorsshouldbeplacedasnecessarytoensuresafety.

(b) Suitablebarriersshallbeplacedaroundthecourse,wherevernecessary,tokeepspectatorsatasafedistance. Onlythosepersonshavingobtainedpermissionshallbeallowedonthecourseinsidethebarriers.

(c) Alltargetsshallbenumberedinsuccessionandthenumberboard,whichcanbeusedasastoppeg,placedwithintheapproachtotheshootingpostforthattarget.

(d) AttargetsforallStamproundsthereshallbesufficientareafortwocompetitorstostandsidebysideandabletoshootatthesametime.

(e) Crossbowtargetsshallbefixedbelowskyline.(f) Thebuttsshallprovideforamarginofat least5cmoutsidethe lowestscoringzone(s)of the

503. Judging(a) (i) Atalltimes,whenevershootingtakesplace,itmustbeunderthecontrolofaFieldCaptain.

(ii) Atrecordstatusmeetings,theFieldCaptainshallbeaJudgerecognisedbyArcheryGB.Thegrade of judge-in-charge required for each level of tournament and other relevantinformationisgivenatAppendixB.

(iii) Atnon-recordstatusmeetingsaJudgemayappointexperiencedarchersasassistantFieldCaptains tohelp in the runningofa shoot. A Judgemaydelegatehisauthority to suchappointedassistants

(iv) AttournamentstheJudgeandFieldCaptainsshallbenon-shooting.(v) ForthepurposesoftheseRules,thetermJudgeshallembracebothJudgeandFieldCaptain

unlessthecontextindicatesotherwise.(b) ThedutiesoftheChairmanandotherJudgesshallbe:

(i) Toensurethatadequatesafetyprecautionshavebeenobservedinthelayoutofthecourseandwarm-uparea.

(ii) Before shooting commences, to satisfy by inspection that all the archers’ equipmentconforms toArcheryGB rules and the archers’ given style. If applicable a judge, beingsatisfiedthatthearchers’equipmentconformstothestylewrittenonthescorecards,willsigntothateffectonthefrontofthescorecards.

(iii) To address the assembled competitors before the shoot commences about safetyprecautionsandanyotherappropriatematter,includingthemethodofstartingtheevent,thestartingpointsofeachgroup,etc.

(iv) Toensurethatallcompetitorsareconversantwiththerulesofthecompetitionandthemethodofscoring.

(v) Toresolvedisputesorqueriesthatmayariseininterpretationoftherulesorothermatters.

504. Shooting(a) Duringwarm-up,theareabeingusedshallbeunderthecontrolofajudgeorcompetentarcher.

Itisrecommendedthatshootingperiodsoffiveminutesbeallowedandathensoundsignalgivenforthearcherstoapproachandclearthetargets.

(b) Incompetition,eachshootinggroupshallconsistofnotmorethan6andnofewerthan3archers,Number1ofeachshootinggrouponthetargetlistwillbeTargetCaptain.

(d) Groupsshallbeassignedtostartsimultaneouslyfromvarioustargetsandwillcompletetheroundatthetargetprevioustotheoneatwhichtheystarted.Additionalgroupsassignedtoatargetshall wait until the primary group on that target has shot and scored their arrows beforeproceeding.

(e) Competitorsinagroupmayallowothergroupstoshootthrough,providedtheOrganizersand/ortheJudgesarenotifiedaboutthechangeatthefirstopportunity.

(f) Archerswaitingtheirturntoshootshallstandwellbackbehindthearcherswhoareshooting,preferablyatthenumberboard.

(g) Shooting Position. The archer’s more forward foot must be in contact with and behind theshootingpostwhileshooting.

(h) Ifanarrowisobservedtoreboundfrom,orisbelievedtohavepassedthroughthetargetface,aJudge shall check it, and if it appears that the arrowhas reboundedor passed through thenanotherarrowmaybe shotat that face from the sameposition fromwhich thebouncingorpassingthrougharrowwasshot.

(j) Anarrowshallbedeemednottohavebeenshotif:(i) Thearrowhasnotreboundedandthearchercantouchitwithhisbowwithoutmovinghis

feetfromtheirpositioninrelationtotheshootingline.Inthiseventanotherarrowmaybeshot.

(ii) Thetargetfaceorbuttressfallsover(inspiteofhavingbeenfixedtothesatisfactionoftheJudges). The Judgeswill takewhatevermeasure theydeemnecessaryandcompensateadequatetimeforshootingtherelevantnumberofarrows.IfthebuttressonlyslidesdownitwillbelefttotheJudgestodecidewhatactiontotake,ifany.

(k) Timing.(i) WhenacompetitororagroupiscausingunduedelaytheJudgewillwarnthecompetitor

orgroupafterwhichtheymaybetimed.(ii) Forallrounds,whethermarkedorunmarkeddistancesthetimingbeginswhenthearcher

takeshisshootingposition,whichheshalldoassoonasitbecomesavailable.Thearcherisallowed1½minutesperarrow.

(iii) AJudge,havingobservedanarcherexceedthetime limit,shallcautionhimbyasignednoteonthescorecard,indicatingthetimeofthewarning.Atthesecondandsubsequentwarnings,duringthattournament,thearcher’shighestscoringarrowatthetargetwherethewarningisgiven,shallbeannulled.

(l) Incaseofequipmentfailuretheorderofshootingmaybechangedtemporarily.Inanyeventnomorethan30minutesshallbeallowedtorepairanyequipmentfailure.Theothercompetitorsinthatgroupshallshootandscoretheirarrowsbeforeallowinganyfollowinggroupstoshootthrough.Iftherepairiscompletedwithinthetimelimitthecompetitorinquestionmaymakeupanyarrowsremainingtobeshotonthattarget.Iftherepairiscompletedlaterthecompetitormayrejoinhisgroupbutwilllosethearrowshisgrouphasshotinthemeantime.

(m) Nopersonshallrelatetocompetingarchersthetargetdistancesonunmarkedcoursesduringthetournament.

(n) Althoughtherearenospecificdressregulationsinfieldarchery,allcompetitors,fieldpartyandofficialsshouldwearbrightvisiblecolours.Footwearthatfullyenclosesthetoesandfrontofthefootmustbewornatalltimeswhenshooting.

(o) ShootingSafety.Whilstscoringandlookingformissingarrows,onememberoftheshootinggroupmuststayinfrontofthebutttowarnotherarchersthattheareaisoccupied.

(p) Atanyeventwherebothanunmarkedroundandamarkedroundarebeingshotonpredominatelythesamecourse,theunmarkedroundistobeshotfirst.

505. Scoring(a) Twoofeachshootinggroupshallbescorers.Eachshallbesuppliedwithaseparatesetofscore

confirmsthatthebowstillcomplieswiththeclass/weightdivision.Anysubstitutebowmustbeshotintheappropriatedivision.

(b) Arrowsmustbearthefollowingidentification:(i) Nameor initials of contestant and a non-duplicated serial number affixed to the arrow

shaft,andregisteredwiththeofficials.(ii) Stamporcodemarkindicationclass,affixedbytheofficials.

(c) Thetermmechanicalasappliedtobowsandequipmentshallbetakentomeananymethodthatembodiesapluralityofinteractingparts,whethersuchareindividualpiecesorspringco-joinedpartscapableofcooperativelyactingtoeffectbowstringreleasebyaseparatingmovementofatleastonesuchpartrelativetoanother.

605. Shooting(a) Competitorsshouldbeatleastsixfeetapart,andmustnotadvancetheirleadingfootoverthe

shootingline.(b) Eachcompetitormayhaveoneassistantoradvisor,whomustkeepatleastoneyardbehindthe

shootingline.(c) (i) At leastoneendofsixarrowswillbeshotperbowclass/division. Fourendswillbethe

(b) Whenpossible,VIarchersshallbepermittedtoshootanendofsightingarrowsateachchangeofdistance(exceptwhentheBurntwoodRoundequivalentisbeingshotRule1205).

(c) WhenVIarchersshootinonedetail,aVIarchermaybepermittedtoutilisethetimeallowedforsightingarrows,byshootingmoresightingarrows,butmustnotholduptheshootingline.

(d) AVIarchershallbepermittedtohaveapersonactingasaspotterwhoshallbeallowedtostandbetweenthewaitingandtheshootinglines.ThespottermayonlygivetheirVIarchersattheshootinglineinformationastothefallofeacharrow(includinga‘bouncer’)andanynecessarysafetywarnings,butnootheradvice. Aspottershallpassinformationtothearcherinsuchamannerastoavoiddisturbancetootherarchersontheshootingline.

(e) AssistanceinadjustinganysightingdevicemaybegiventoaVIarcherbyathirdpartyonlyduringsightingendsandbetweenshootingends.

(f) AspottermaybenominatedasanassistantasprovidedinRule306(r)whoshallatalltimesbeunderthecontrolanddisciplineoftheJudge.

(g) AVI archer shall only approach the targetwhenaccompaniedbyhis/her spotterorwith theexpressconsentoftheJudge.(Safetyissue)

(h) Inthecaseofadditionalphysicalimpairments,awheelchair,perchingstoolorstandardchairisallowed.

1203.HandicapandClassificationSchemes(a) Any handicap or classification scheme in use by visually impaired archers shall, in general,

(c) ForNationalRecordsonVIarchery, theBBSrecordsofficershouldbecontactedandshallberesponsibleforthemaintenanceandadministrationoftheserecords.

1204.Equipment(a) EquipmentusedbyaVIarchermustgenerallyconformtothespecificationgiveninPart2.In

addition,aVIarchermayuseatactilesightingdeviceandfootlocationdeviceprovidedthattheysatisfytheconditionslaiddowninthefollowingsub-paragraphs.

(b) Atactilesightingdevicemustnotactasasupporttothebow,bowhandorarm(unlessrequiredbythearcher’sphysicaldisability).

(c) Atactilesightingdevicemustbecapableofbeingadjustedbythearcherwithoutmovingfromtheshootingline.

(d) Thetactilesightingdevicemaytouchuponanypartofthebowhandorarmbutnopartofitshallbefurtherfromthearcher’sbodythanthebowhandwhenthebowisfullydrawn.

(e) Where the tactile sighting device works in conjunction with a long-rod stabilizer, then Rule202(f)(ii)shallnotapply,providedthatnopartofthedeviceshallbemorethansixinches(15cm)forwardofthearcher’sbowhandwhenthebowisfullydrawnandthesupportingequipmenttowhichthatdeviceisattachedstandsonthegroundontheoppositesideofthebowtothearrowrest.Inadditionthedevicemustbefittedwithabarsoastopreventthebowbeingloweredbymorethanthreeinches(7.5cm)atthetimeofreleaseofanarrow.

Note:Thepurposeofthisruleistopreventanarrowreleasefrominadvertentlystrikinganypartofthesightingdevice.Ifthedimensionsofabowaresuchthatthedistancebetweenthestabilizerandthearrowrestislessthan4inches(10cm)asmeasuredintheverticalplane,thenthebarreferredtoabovemustbesopositionedthatthebowcannotbeloweredbymorethanoneinch(2.5cm)lessthanthedistancebetweenstabilizerandarrowrest.

(f) The sighting device stand/foot location device must not represent an obstacle to othercompetitors.

(g) Thetotallengthofthefootlocationdeviceshallbenomorethan110cm(43inches)(h) Thetotalwidthofthetripod/footlocationdeviceshallbenomorethan75cm(29.5inches)(j) Themaximumdepthofthefootlocationdeviceshallbenomorethan3cm(1.25inches)(k) Generally,tactilesightingdevicesmayonlybeusedbyVIarcherswhocannotuseabowsightor

adaptedbowsight.Exceptionally,whereanarcherwhoisregisteredblindwishestoshootforanIPCperformancescore,atactileaidmaybeusedbutthearcheristowearablindfoldwhichmustbeinplacewhilstthearcherisinfrontofthewaitingline.

(l) AbowsightmaybeadaptedtosuittheresidualvisionofthearcherandthusinthiscaseRule202(e)(i)shallnotapply.

(m) Abowsightmayincorporateprisms,lensorothermagnificationdevice,enlargedsightring/pin,andmayprovideformorethanonesightingpoint.TheseadaptationsmaybemadetoallbowtypesusedbyarecognisedVIarcher(asdefinedinrules1200(c)(d)and(e)).

(n) Equipment may include electronic sighting devices (otherwise prohibited by Part 2) utilisingelectro-magneticradiationsoutsidethevisiblewavelengthsprovidingthattheydonotinterferewithotherarchersontheshootinglineoratthetarget.Suchdevicesmaybeattachedtothebossbutnotinthescoringarea.Anysignalgeneratedmustbeuniquetotheindividualandnotdistractothercompetitors.
