Whistle Blower Policy The parishes, schools, agencies and other entities of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis are committed to being good stewards of our resources. We are

all responsible for ensuring that funds we receive are used for the benefit of people we serve and for protecting our financial and physical assets from theft or misuse. We ask for your help in reporting any situations where Church funds or property are lost or put at risk, as described in the policy located on the Archdiocesan website: http://www.archindy.org/whistleblower.html

Green Corner World Days of Prayer for Creation - Week 4 Praised be You, my Lord through Sister Mother Earth, who sustains us and governs us and who produces varied fruits with colored flowers and herbs. Praised be to You, my Lord, through those who give pardon for your love, and bear infirmity and tribula-tion. Blessed are those who endure in peace for by You, Most High, they shall be crowned. All-powerful God, you are present in the whole universe and in the smallest of your creatures. You embrace with your tenderness all that exists. Pour out upon us the power of your love, that we may protect life and beauty. Encourage us in our struggle for justice, love and peace. We thank you for being with us each day. Teach us to discover the worth of each thing, to be filled with awe and contemplation, to recognize that we are profoundly united with every creature as we journey towards your infinite light. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Travel Club The Holy Spirit Travel Club is going on a wine tour on October 20, 2018. We will go to Ertel Winery, Holtkamp Winery and

Stream Cliff. Lunch is included. The cost of the trip is $65 per person.

For both events, call Rose Scheibelhut at 317-356-4412, and she will call you back with confirmation.

Dear Brothers and Sisters of Holy Spirit, Frequently we are asked to provide a letter for a person who wishes to be a godparent for Baptism

or a sponsor for Confirmation in another parish. This letter is to state that the person is a registered and active member of the Parish. Sometimes we struggle with these letters since we have no factual information that says the person is a member of our community. So, what does it mean to be registered and active? 1. The person has filled out our registration form

and is included on our Parish roster. 2. A primary responsibility to be a Catholic is

that we attend Mass on Sunday and Holy Days of Obligation (five days each year). So to be a member of the Parish, Mass attendance is primary.

3. Volunteer in a ministry in the Parish or school. 4. Contribute financially to the Parish. We leave

it to each person’s conscience to determine the amount of the gift, but we do expect consistent giving. By using the Sunday donation envelopes that we provide to each family, you are able to show that you are fulfilling two of the four expectations (#s 2 and 4).

So, if you are coming to church at Holy Spirit and are not registered, I strongly encourage you to become registered. Just stop by the Parish Of-fice and registration can be handled in 20 minutes. Underneath the responsibilities of being a parishioner are the joys of being a parishioner. The more active you become, the more Holy Spirit will become your spiritual home. The more you volunteer, the more you will see many familiar faces at Mass. The more you support Holy Spirit financially, the more you will have ownership of your parish community.

God’s Blessings and Love,

Honduras Information Our next Honduras trip is January 22-29, 2019. Prayerfully consider joining us as we visit our sister parish sharing in prayer, culture and service. First payment of $400 is due October 15, 2018. Call, text or email Kathy Evans at 317-331-9332 or

[email protected] for more information.

Blood Pressure Blood pressure checks and health education will be provided THIS weekend after all Masses.

Twenty-fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Thank you to everyone who has donated to our Wish List so far. These are dreams that we can’t afford under our ordinary income.

We are wanting to get new drinking fountains at school. These fountains would include a water bottle refill station.

Thank you for a donation of $500.00 from a generous parishioner.

We are now wanting to put in a commercial style ice maker in the basement which costs more than originally reported. This would be used for the Mercy Meals we provide after funerals.

Other items that we are still needing are:

 Extension cords and power strips

 TVs

Jesus teaches us that we are called to serve one another. Sacrifice is not a word that many people like to hear. We think it means that we must give up something that we want. However, the literal meaning of sacrifice is “to make holy,” from the words “sacer” = sacred and “facere” = to make. In other words, we make our lives holy by sharing our gifts in the service of God.

Do you know the name of this item? To learn more about this and other terms in the Church, come to our Parish Mission Retreat on October 7-10 at 7 p.m. in the Church each night. The presenters are Father Patrick Keyes, C.Ss.R. and Father Tuan Pham, C.Ss.R.

Topics Night 1: Bible - the Word of God Night 2: Cross/Crucifix Night 3: Reconciliation Night 4: Altar - Sent in Mission

New Section on the Holy Spirit bulletin: “In Loving Memory”

Starting in September, a section on the back of the bulletin will be available to list a deceased loved one’s name. The cost is $60.00 per name and their name will remain on the bulletin for a year. This will help defray the cost of printing our bulletin for the entire year. If interested, please clip and fill out the slip below and turn it into the Parish Office.

Dear Father Paul, the Holy Spirit Choir, Deacon Mike Slinger, and others who helped with the ceremony of our beloved Bob & Wanda Halvin,

The Mass and showing were so appreciated. The prayers, acts of kindness were so appreciated by both families. We loved the way Father Paul explained to others who attended who weren’t Catholic and made all feel welcomed. Bob attended Holy Spirit, was baptized and made his First Communion there too. What a wonderful place to have his life end at the same place where it all started. All the prayers and kindness were felt by our families.

Blessings to all of you! the Bob & Wanda Havlin Families

SUBSTANCE ADDICTION MINISTRY Addiction has now been recognized as a medical disease, but no specific cause has been found. Instead, addiction is cause by a combi-nation of genetics, environment and stress. The three main neurotransmitters involved in addiction - serotonin, noradrenaline, and dopamine - exist in a balance. We all are born with a genetic tendency towards a slight imbalance in these, however the more off-balance the relationship between these neurotransmitters are, the greater risk that person carries for addiction. Stress is a key trigger for most addictions. Stress throws off the brain's homeostasis (natural balance) and significantly increases the risks that the person will turn to addictive self-medicating behavior. from “The Addiction Solution” by David Kipper, MD and Steven Whitney “The first step toward getting somewhere is to decide you are not going to stay where you are.” Unknown God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. by Reinhold Niebuhr

25º Domingo Tiempo Ordinario.

Entonces, ¿qué significa estar registra-do y activo? 1.
