Huang chose “Light Up Rotary” as his theme for 2014-15. Huang was inspired by the teachings of Chinese philosopher Confucious who said: "It is better to light a single candle, than to sit & curse the darkness." Huang told the 537 district governors and their spouses and partners who are attending the 2014 International Assembly in San Diego, California. "The Rotary way is the Confucius way. The Rotary way is to light a candle. I light one, you light one, 1.2 million Rotarians light one.Together, we light up the world," said Huang, who is a member of the Rotary Club of Taipei in Taiwan. After announcing his theme at the opening session of the five-day training meeting, Huang urged club members to in the coming year by hosting a Rotary Day in their community and Light Up Rotary including local Rotaract and Interact members in their service projects. "How you Light Up Rotary is up to you," Huang said. "You know where you are strong, you know what your community needs, and you know how you can help." Huang also shared his membership development goals, including the need for more women and young adults and his goal to increase membership to a total of 1.3 million members. He asked Rotarians to invite their spouses, family members, and friends to join Rotary. Addressing the status of the fight against polio, Huang noted that with the current momentum Rotary is on track to achieve full polio eradication by 2018. "When we eradicate polio — and we will — we will have proved ourselves an organization capable of great things. And we'll be even better equipped for the next challenge we choose to take on.We'll have given the world a gift that will endure forever," he said. “Light Up Rotary is our theme, but it is more than our theme. It is how we live in Rotary, how we think in Rotary, how we feel, how we work," Huang said. Minutes of the 1845th Regular Weekly Meeting atThe Saturday Club on Monday 13th January'13 at 6.30 pm

President declared the meeting open and welcomed all Midtowners, Anns and guests. President invited AG Sanjay Kanodia and Rtn. Shyam Agarwal to join the dias.National Anthem was sung by all present.1844th RWM minutes were confirmed.Conference of District 3291 �AIKTAN� was held on 11th & 12th January 2014 at Swabhumi, The Heritage Plaza. PDG Kamal Seth, Rtn. Dr. Biman Chakraborty, Rtn. Bhupesh Kapoor & Rtn. Dr. Surinder K Kapoor attended the conference. During the conference COL election was held results expected within few days. AG announced that out of total 80 Club's Exhibits in the District Conference our Club exhibit was one of the three exhibits selected for recognition.Mother & Child Health Care camp along with RC Madhaymgram at Kennedy Centre was held on Sunday 5thJanuary '14. Existing - 42, New -5 Total card holders - 47, Food packets distributed -188. Camp was attended by Rtn. Ravi Dhawan & his overseas guests Mr. Akshaya Dhawan, Mrs. Kelli A Wargo, Rosemarie D Wait, James D Nolan, Kimberly L Nolan, Deborah O Nolan, alongwith Mr. Subrata Sen from Midtown and Rtn. Bijoyan Choudhary, Rtn. Subra Sanyal, Ms. Nupur Ghosh and Rtn. Arun Das from RC Madhaymgram. Next Mother & Child Health Care Camp alongwith Madhyamgram will be held on Sunday 9th Feb'14. Members are suggested to attend.Next Mother & Child Health Care Camp along with medical checkup at Navnir Centre will be held on Saturday 25th January '14. Members are suggested to attend. Club has received a Cheque of Rs. 1 L from AkzoNoble India for the project dignity. With this the total external donation received under this project during year as of now is Rs. 2.275L.Ramkrishna Ashram Diagnostic Clinic, Nimpith (With Mother & Child Unit) in Memory of Paresh Rajda - As per Club's annual plan of Rs. 3 -3.5 L contribution towards this project, Rs. 2 L has been deposited in the Bank under FD instrument.President announced that he along with Rtn. Sudhir Chand will be visiting Sree Ramkrishna Ashram , Nimpith on Tuesday 14th March'14 to discuss with Swamiji and his team about the progress of our Project Dignity, Urology Camp date finalization in March'14 and to identify any other areas of interest for the community around that site. Members are welcomed to join.DG VISIT is slated for MONDAY 20th Jan'14. All Directors to submit progress report on their respective areas of responsibility. DG visit will be followed by fellowship dinner. All members with spouses to actively participate.Rtn. Nirmal Agarwal will conduct a Couple HRD program, more details will follow soon.AG Sanjay Kanodia conducted 2nd Assembly meeting of the Club and reviewed progress of various projects and documents prepared for the DG's visit slated for Monday 20th January 2014. He complimented the team for an excellent work carried out by the Club and was very appreciative of the information collated in the documents. He also highlighted that throughout the year he and the District team members have been timely informed about the progress made by the Club. He complimented the Club for active participation in the District events.President invited Rtn. Shyam Agarwal ( Ex-Midtowner, now residing in Bangalore) to share his experiences with the Rotary Club and other Social Service Organisations he is currently associated with in Bangalore. Rtn. Shyam Agarwal explained excellent work carried out by his team along with other organizations. Work on Micro Credit to the village women and the way this has spread and benefitted the villagers to move towards economic independence was well appreciated. Another project of Sanitary Napkins , wherein village women group are given machinery and material to make cheap Sanitary Napkins [self-sustaining financial model] for distribution to school going girls as well as in the villages at very cheap rate. This has improved girls attendance in the school along with general improvement of hygiene standards. He has also started supply of supplementary food for the young children in line with our Club's Mother & Child Health Care camps. Talk with number of questions was well appreciated. Rtn. Sudhir Chand gave a vote of thanks and presented a memento to Rtn. Shyam Agarwal and AG Sanjay Kanodia.Acting Secretary Rtn. Rakesh Khanna made following announcements : a. Wedding Anniversary greetings - Rtn. Sudhir Chand & Ann. Dr. Neerja Chand on 16th January, Rtn. Amitabh Jalan & Ann Benu Jalan on 16th January and Rtn. Pradip Kumar Bose & Ann Shabori Bose on 18th January .b. Birthday wishes - Rtn. Indrani Sen on 16th January.c.The Sunshine box collection was Rs. 1500.00 above the usual.d. The meeting was attended by 12 of 41 and 8 being exempted; the attendance came to 36%.President thanked all present and declared the meeting closed at 8.10 pm.
