A LETTER FROM THE SENIOR PASTOR
Dear Friends,
The Bible has a great deal to say about music. It is mentioned in at
least 44 of its 66 books. Musical terms such as music, sing, and musical
instruments are mentioned hundreds of times. Two entire books, the
Psalms and Song of Songs, are given over to music. In fact Christianity has
been a musical religion throughout its history. In every corner of the globe
and in every generation, music has been an important part of the Church.
The Bible teaches that Christians naturally sing and explains why Christians
should sing, how they should sing, and even what they should sing.
In short, music is a gift to you and it enriches your life as well as your
worship to God! Sign up the classes we have for you and experience for
yourself!
Rev. Dr. Edmound & Yvonne Teo Senior Pastor & Principal, RSPA International Christian Assembly Hong Kong

A LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Friends,

interest in the performing arts.
We are created to worship Jesus Christ!
RSPA helps you to apply your music experience to worship God and to use

to:
1. Explore your God given gifts through Christian ministries.

attention. Students are also provided with a unique platform to showcase
what they have learnt through recitals organized by RSPA.
Sign up and be blessed.

MESSAGE TO PARENTS
Providing your child with an education in music is an investment in your child’s future. In making it possible for your child to play a musical instrument, you are providing the opportunity for self-expression, creativity, achievement and worship. Numerous studies indicate that parental attitude, support and involvement are important factors in a child’s ability to successfully learn to play and enjoy music. This information is designed to assist you in giving your child the best support possible for his/her musical endeavors. Like any skill, interest counts far more than talent. Benefits for Your Child
Music participation enhances: - problem solving
- teamwork
- goal setting
- poise
- self-expression
- co-ordination
- memory skills
- self-esteem
- concentration
- enjoyment and recreation
- praise & worship
RSPA – 2014 22
How You Fit In
Always keep in mind that your support is a key element in your child’s success with music study.
Schedule Practice Times Music achievement requires effort over a long period of time. You can help your child by: - Providing a quiet place in which to practice - Accompanying young children when they practice - Remaining nearby during practice times for older children as often as possible - Scheduling a consistent, daily time for practice - Praising your child’s efforts and achievements
What To Do To give your child the best possible support, you should: - encourage your child to play for family & friends - offer compliments and encouragement regularly - expose your child to a wide variety of music, including concerts and
recitals - encourage your child to talk to you about his/her lessons - make sure your child’s instrument is in working order - allow your child to play many pieces of music, not just study pieces - listen to your child practice and acknowledge improvement - help build a personal music library - try to get your child to make a minimum two year commitment to
his/her music study
What Not to Do Your child’s musical progress will be greatly enhanced if you: - don’t use practice as punishment - don’t insist that your child play for others if he/she doesn’t want to - don’t ridicule or make fun of less than perfect performance - don’t start your child on an instrument that’s in poor working order or
condition - don’t expect rapid progress and development in the beginning
RSPA – 2014 23
If Your Child Loses Interest - don’t panic - discuss the situation with your child to determine why his/her interest
is declining - talk to your child’s music teacher to see what might be done to
rekindle his/her enthusiasm - encourage your child to stick with lessons for an agreed period of time - offer increased enthusiasm and support

TESTIMONY FROM THE STUDENTS
Ian Yong
I started my lessons with RSPA at around April last year. For this past 11 months, I’ve learned how to sing and practice properly. Previously I used to have a vocal range of 3 octaves, but after taking the lessons, I’ve now achieved a range of 5 octaves. I also feel I can serve God with a better voice in the ministry of worship.
Mimi Ho
Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy. (Psalm 33:3 NIV)
I started to learn to play the drumset a couple of years ago, totally clueless why I did it with a passion until I came to ICA and saw the worship team on fire on the stage...
I wanted to be like them, playing for the Lord.
Yet when it's my turn to be on stage, I became acutely aware that despite the exams and performances I had gone through in the past, I needed to multiply my talents. That's exactly when RSPA came in to provided a teacher that shares with me other dimensions in drumming. Praise the Lord, I'm learning new things during the class and it helps to improve my skills and confidence for my music journey! ^.^
RSPA – 2014 25
Charis Teo
Even though I have only been taking piano lessons with RSPA for half a year, I think it led me to see music more broadly.
I also find that my teacher is open to questions and gives me thorough explanations, which helped me understand music better.
Kavinda De Alwis
We thank God for the opportunity our son Kavinda had in Learning the piano through RSPA. He has been attending for over a year now, and has learnt to play many songs and chords in the process.
Pastor Morris has taken time to make piano lessons interesting and fun. Kavinda looks forward to his lesson every week.

Deirdre Tam
One day my daughter, Deirdre, told me that she wanted to learn the guitar. My first reaction was that her fingers will hurt and grow calluses. However, she said it was OK and wouldn't mind the pain.
So I began to look for a guitar teacher. Deep down, I was hoping to find a Christian teacher to teach her Christian songs, so that one day she can lead worship at church. Right at that time, I received the notice from
Renaissance School of Performing Arts about the new course in Sept 2012. We found that the timing was good, she could go after Sunday school. Another good thing was that her Dad also wanted to learn the guitar. What a good opportunity for both father and daughter to learn a new instrument together!
To my amazement, they could play “Silent Night” together at Christmas time, only after two and a half months of lessons. Even though the break between the semesters was more than a month long, Deirdre still practiced guitar on her own and searched on line for songs she liked. I realized that she had finally found the musical instrument she loved. Recently, Deirdre and her friend were responsible for performing 3 songs at school as a duo.
Deirdre played the guitar and her friend played the piano, and they both sang as well. I am really proud of her for learning so well in such a short time, and I am looking forward to her leading worship at church one day. Praise the Lord!
