    [RRV] Energy Points

    What Are Energy Points?

Energy Points are a representational quantity used to reflect a Groups total military-industrial

power. Group EP is recalculated every month, from a combination of that groups total number of

Critical Points, Colonies, and the Activity Bonus EP of that group in the previous month. Notionally,

a Groups EP is equivalent to the Gross Domestic Product of a nation, and reflects how much a

group can spend in a given monthly cycle.

In terms of individual players, EP is a direct measure of your ability to purchase items, NPC

followers, and territory. A players EP is amassed through monthly activity, participation in special

events (such as tournaments), as a reward for the completion of an RP, or by emerging victorious

in a Spar or Frontier topic. Unlike Group EP, Player EP does not recalculate each monthit only

rises when something is done to earn it. Where Group EP is equivalent to a nations economic

power, Player EP is more similar to how much money an individual has in the bank.

For both Groups and Players, EP is used to purchase (in real time) NPCs and other special units,

new territories, new critical points, special gear and items, and for funding special projects. EP may

also be used to resurrect dead characters without the typical wait.

    Can I trade Energy Points?

Yes; players may trade EP with other players, and groups may trade with groups. Additionally, a

group may pay a player in EP if they so wish.

How Do Players Earn Energy Points?

You may earn Experience Points in accordance to how well you have roleplayed in a multiverse

topic in that month (that is, it must be a topic in the IC forum, or part of a tournament that takes

place in the multiverse). When a topic has ended and you are ready to be assessed, submit a link

to the topic in the EP, Items, and Armies topic in the IC forum. Once the topic is assessed, you

will be granted from 0 to 250 EP at the discretion of the topic moderators (we probably wont give

under 50 EP unless you submit a page of yourself two-waying in chat speak with a friend).

Additionally, whenever a thread ends with a Judges ruling, additional bonus EP (up to 1000) may

be given if the Judge feels that it is warranted.

may reduce costs depending on certain parameters (for instance, a point that reduces the cost of

Industrial gear would not affect magical items).

Alternatively, an individual character may buy a special item if they roleplay out significant

justificationand pay the price. To do this, you must have your roleplay assessed by the

assessments team, and you must also get a price quote from the EP team. It is advised to speak to

the assessors before starting your roleplay, to establish whether or not what youre doing will

    work.

    Revivals

Once a character has been dead for two weeks, real time, you may spend EP to resurrect him or

her from the dead. The cost of resurrection is equal to the Tier Number (One, two, or three) of

your character times fifty, times the quantity six minus the number of weeks your character has

    been dead. In other terms:

    Code:

EP Cost = 50 * (Tier Number) * (6Weeks the Character Has Been Dead).

If you are part of a group with a Resurrection Critical Point, the cost is reduced. After six weeks,

the resurrection becomes free of charge.

    Secret Projects

  • 8/13/2019 RRV Energy Points

    6/12

Secret Projects are a way for any group that possesses both a Production and Communications

critical point to gain an edge over other groups. If there is any specialized item or unit that you

want, that does not fall under the normal item or NPC rules; or if you have an interesting way to

alter the game play mechanics in your favor (for example, building an espionage agency that gives

your group the ability to justifiably know the movements of your enemies in advance) contact a

moderator with your proposal, and well get back to you on a fair price. Once the details are

written up, submit them as you would NPCs or a special item for approval.

Alternatively, an individual character may buy a Secret Project if they roleplay out significant

justificationand pay the price. To do this, you must have your roleplay assessed by the

assessments team, and you must also get a price quote from the EP team. It is advised to speak to

the assessors before starting your roleplay, to establish whether or not what youre doing will

    work.

    Territories and Critical Points

Territories are planets, large independent landmasses, and other objects (such as spacecraft and

supernatural bodies of the same scale) that serve as settlements, headquarters, and concentrated

areas of military and economic power for Groups. Territories may house up to three Critical Points.

A Critical Point is an important, single location on the Territorytypically it is an area of significant

value to the faction and its war effort.

A new Territory starts with one Critical Point, and the other two may be purchased for 900 EP each

for a total of 3800 EP. Every critical point must be attacked in a different thread (unless both the

attackers and defenders have setup a special arrangement). New groups are given one Territory

with three Critical Points to start with.

It is possible for Groups to purchase Critical Points separately from territories; in this case the

Critical Point slot is fulfilled by either a Playable Character, or an NPC unit of some kind

    (including Medium and Heavy units).

Conquering a Critical Point grants you 250 EP; destroying a Critical Point grants you 500 EP. If you

conquer or destroy all of the Critical Points on a planet, you may either choose to conquer or

destroy the entire Territory. If you conquer it, you receive 500 EP. If you destroy it, you receive

    1000 EP.

If all of a Group's Critical Points are attacked and destroyed, then the group is disbanded for a

minimum of three months. They lose all Energy Points they gained and all items/armies that they

    pooled.

events are described, both in individual posts, and overall among the work provided for

assessment. To emphasize: this category is NOT an answer to the question "Is their writing

pretty?" High scores are indicative of the assessed having the ability to describe the actions and

events taking place within their posts with clarity. Typically, excellent work would result in the

player being awarded a sub-total of three, with a four being reserved for someone who

    particularly stands out.

Creativity:The name of this one is up for debate, I guess.

The score of the Creativity category is determined both by the relative originality of the players

actions, and by what can be termed as an enjoyment factor. To elaborate, ideas do not have to be

completely fresh or original, and no penalty should be given unless the ideas are presented in a

trite manner, or are continuously used over and again throughout a majority of the assessed work.

Grading in part on entertainment is important in that posts that fail to capture the readers

attention (or are just unearthly boring) should not be considered high quality, tend to bring down

the quality of the role-play, and generally make participation harder for others. The enjoyment

aspect should be graded leniently, as this part stands the post potential for bias. I would generally

suggest only bringing entertainment value into play as the deciding factor between three or four

    points for this category.

Logic:This one is mostly intuitive. If you can understand what is going on without having to pause

and decode, then they score high. If its incomprehensible, then they fail. For sparring posts, this

also translates into the "tactics" category, in which you will be required to assess the obvious.

Flow:Word choice plays in heavily here, but also structure and order of events. Simply, its how

well the work of the assessed flows together. If you dont know what that means, or think youd

have difficulty judging, then I suggest reading the posts out loud, all at once. If you stumble around

a lot, and find a number of awkward instants, then we have a flow problem. This should be

obvious, but just in case: If you have problems caused by not knowing the meaning of a word, or

anything involving your own deficiencies (rather than theirs), then do not penalize them. Im not

being needlessly mean - I swear Ive seen screw ups like that before.

Development:Development consists of both how well character is developed, as well as ideas. A

well developed concept should be built up over time after introduction, and not just pulled out of

the sky for convenience. Foreshadowing tends to be nice, though that is very hard to pull off in the

type of role-playing used here, so leniency is advised when dealing with that.

Mechanics:This is that syntax/spelling stuff that everyone likes so much. If there are few errors,

then dont deduct points. One misspelled word in a two page post is NOT grounds for a one-out-

    of-two.

Length:Do their posts go on long enough to accomplish their task? Is superfluous description kept

to a minimum? If both are yes, then they get the point.

    10/12

Respect:This goes by the level OOC respect shown, as well as how they treat their opponents in

posts. The first one should be obvious (they cant be bitching out their colleagues all the time). As

for the second, it doesnt really matter if they brutalize enemy characters. Thats to be expected,

and keeps things from being dull. Where IC respect comes into question though, is how well

theyre following the rules. Closed posts in an open/hybrid game, or rampant Power Playing

without clearing it with their fellows first are bad.

Total:This is obvious. In the Ten Level System: Add up all the numbers and divide by six. Then

follow standard arithmetic rules for rounding to get the number of the Tier they are now assessed

at (Low = 1; Intermediate = 2; High = 3). If you do not know how to round for whatever reason,

then the rule is as follows: if the number right of the decimal is below five, then truncate it. If the

number is equal to or greater than five, then round up.

    [RRVII] Groups

    How groups work

Unofficial or Official:Five members are required to start an official group, which earns you one

free Territory with three Critical Points. To establish your group, it is advised that you write a

group summary and start a signups thread. Factions must be approved by a panel of three judges,

so speak with one when you are prepared.

Note: Only official groups of 10 or more are allowed private sub-forums. Just PM a moderator to

    find out more.

Nomadic or Stationary:Nomadic groups are groups in which the Central Point is a Player

character. Stationary groups often have planets, ships, or space-stations in this role.

Alignment / Theme:Most factions have some sort of alignment, such as Balance or Egoism, and

theme, such as Logic or Faith, that they tend to follow.

Group Special Abilities:Within Official Groups, there are certain special powers granted to all

members regardless of their Tier. For example, any Technocrat automatically possesses a

regeneration factor. In order to select a special ability for your group, you must submit a request

    to a Judge.
