I am very sad to report that my father JimSmagacz, age 81 passed away on February27th. Dad was a 47 year veteran of RRD andvery proud of his service in Departments D,Yand C. He suffered an aortic dissection on2/13 and held on far longer than the doctorsexpected. Dad enjoyed receiving theNewsletter and would occasionally tell me astory about someone he saw featured there. Inhis retirement Dad worked part-time in a cam-era shop where he was able to continue hislifelong enjoyment of photography. Wordscannot express how much he will be missed. A new year is justabout to begin andwhat a year itshould be. The

political scene should be heating upalong with global warming. Funnything, both are just a lot of hot air. Itshould be fun to watch , however. Notmuch new going on here in SanAntonio. We are in the midst of asevere drought and can water ourparched lawns only once a week, andshower only with a friend, a reallyclose friend, twice weekly. Seriously,it is very dry and if El Nino doesn’tcome through with some rain water inthe near future, we will be in real trou-ble. Nancy and I are doing a bit oftraveling of late. We were on a landtour in China for about three weekslast June and will be going to theAntarctic in January ’07 and hope tobe dancing with the “Happy Foot(ed)”penguins on that frozen continent..Going to the Antarctic was my ideaand in order to get Nancy to go, I hadto agree to take here to Paris. This iscalled blackmail in some circles. Weare going to Paris in May. That’s aboutit. We are both feeling fine with just afew aches and pains and are lookingforward to a great year.
