ELBO LAKE CLAIMSPATRICIA MINING DIVISION
ONTARIO
Ground geophysical surveys mapped four anomalous zones which may be caused by sulphide mineralization. It is recommended that prospecting be carried out to determine the cause of these anomalous zones and that diamond drilling be consi dered if sulphide are found or if the cause cannot be determined by prospecting.

GENERAL
The Elbo Lake area is located approximately 40 miles
north of Ignace on Highway 599 which provides easy access to
the property. The survey was run over the following mineral
claims:

which are held under option by Chimo Gold Mines Limited with
Knappitt Se Smith.
The geology of this area is shown as Geological Map
No. 2169 "Sioux-Lookout - Armstrong Sheet" by the Ontario
Department of Mines. Airborne magnetometer data covering this
area is published in Geophysical Paper 1127-G "Witcomb" by the
Geological Survey of Canada. This area is coded under the
National Topograph Series 52-G-14.
A grid system comprising of 57,600 feet including tie
lines was carried out under the supervision of Mr. K. Kuhnert
of Port Arthur, Ontario, during the latter part of March, 1970.
The baseline trends N 45 0 W with picket lines trending N 45 0 E
at 400 foot intervals. One hundred foot stations were estab
lished on all lines.

MAGNETOMETER SURVEY
The ground magnetometer survey was completed under
the direct supervision of D. G. Wahl, P.Eng., during the period
of April 7 to April 11, 1970. A Barringer GM 102 Magnetometer
with a sensitivity of 10 gammas recorded the total field
magnetic intensities at fifty foot intervals on all lines. In
excess of 900 stations were occupied.
The magnetic data was reduced to a local datum and
adjusted for magnetic diurnal. The data is presented on the
enclosed maps as corrected station values and as a contoured
interpretation of these data.
The rhyolite flows have a relative low uniform
magnetic susceptibility. The andesite flows have a relative
low magnetic susceptibility but are characterized by linear,
trending anomalies marking individual flows.
The porphyritic rocks have moderate magnetic suscep
tibility in the range of 500 to 1000 gammas. The rhyolite
pyroclastic rocks have a high magnetic susceptibility in the
range from 1000 gammas to 1500 gammas.
Associated with the pyroclastic and porphyritic rocks
are strong elongate units having a magnetic susceptibility range

from 1000 to 5000 gammas. These elongate units are thought to
be tuffs.
EM SURVEY
The electromagnetic survey was conducted by D. G. Wahl,
P.Eng., during the period from April 7 to April 11, 1970,
employing a Crone Radam VLF EM Survey Unit. This unit measured
the inclination or dip and the total field intensity with a
sensitivity of l 0 of dip and 19& field intensity. The VLF station
used is located at Seattle, Washington, having a frequency of
18.6 KH,. All observations were taken facing west. StationsZ
were occupied at 50 foot intervals on the established grid.
Two very strong conductive zones were mapped lying
within the rhyolite pyroclastic rocks. These anomalous areas
will be discussed in detail in a following section of this
report.
GEOLOGY
The geology as published by the Ontario Department
of Mines was extended and defined by the geophysical surveys
and a compilation of the data is appended.
It appears that a volcanic series ranging in compo
sition from andesitic through rhyolitic containing flows,

pyroclastic and porphyritic rocks with associated tuffaceous
bands was folded into an easterly plunging syncline of whichi
the property occupies a portion of the southern limb.
The lowermost member of the volcanic series consists
of andesitic flows which occupies the southern portion of the
property. The porphyritic rocks, probably coarse-grained
quartz feldspar porphyry with tuffaceous interbands, lies atop
the andesite. A small volcanic pile whose center is located
between Line 16+00 West and 20+00 West 250 feet north of the
baseline was formed on these older volcanic rocks. The
pyroclastic rocks and associated tuffs are thought to be
directly related to and a result of this local volcanism. The
youngest member in the volcanic series occupying the central
portion of the syncline is the rhyolitic flows which covers the
northern portion of the property.
No fault systems were detected yet a strange feature
exists between line 48 West and 52 West trending roughly N 45 0 E
which does give the indication of a possible offset of the
pyroclastic rocks. The possibility of this structure being
a dike exists although the major dike pattern in this area
trends north to north northwest.
With the additional information acquired from the
extended survey the cause of this feature should be determined.

ANOMALY l
This .anomaly lies within the volcanic tuffs associated
with the pyrclastic rocks and striking roughly- parallel to,
and 300 feet south of the baseline extending between 35 West to
45 West. It is up to 1000 feet long, up to 50 feet wide and
has exceptionally good conductivity with strong magnetic relief.
Attached are sections showing the geophysical responses and
possible causative bodies.
There is strong possibility that this anomalous zone
is caused by sulphide mineralization. It is felt that the
overburden in the vicinity of 3+00 South on line 40+00 West is
in the order of from 10 feet to 15 feet which is in the
feasibility range of bulldozer.
ANOMALY 2
Anomaly 2 lies coincident with the baseline between
39 W and 45 W. This anomaly as in the case of anomaly l is
associated with the volcanic tuffs and pyroclastic rocks.
j Unlike the first anomaly, anomaly 2 appears to be flanking the
tuff horizon. It is up to 600 feet long and up to 50 feet wide
and exhibits similar electromagnetic response as anomaly 1. The
anomaly is flanked to the north by a region of strong magnetict
relief similar to that of anomaly 1. There appears to be an

old trench in the area of anomaly 2 but due to the snow con
ditions no samples were obtained.
Based on the geophysical response over the area of
anomaly 2, a strong possibility exists of sulphide mineralization
being present.
ANOMALY 3 and 4
These anomalies lie within the pyroclastic rocks
associated with volcanic tuff and are marked by good electro
magnetic response with high associated magnetic relief.
FUTURE WORK
It is strongly recommended that all the anomalous
zones be investigated by surface prospecting and diamond drilling.
A detailed sampling program should be carried out in the area
of the old trench workings consisting of the following:
(1) Random grab samples
(2) Selected grab samples
(3) Latitude and longitude chip sampling.
DIAMOND DRILLING
It is recommended that 1250 feet of diamond drilling
be initiated as summarized in the following table.
