English for Academic Purposes (EAP)
The EAP program offers students the opportunity to develop key English language skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing. In addition, other courses teach the approaches and strategies needed to become a successful student in a Canadian university.
University Bridging Program (UBP)
The UBP is designed for students who require only a single semester of study to reach the language levels for entry to the undergraduate degree or the PMP. It enables students to deal with complex academic texts, to produce academic writing, to conduct research, and to deliver a formal presentation on an academic topic.
Pre-Master’s Program (PMP)
This one-semester program prepares those students accepted for graduate study at Royal Roads who require the necessary English skills. The program teaches EAP, Academic Study Skills, and familiarization with the culture of the Canadian university system.

Victoria is a friendly, helpful and caring city – a good place to call home. Royal Roads University assists our students in finding safe, affordable and pleasant housing. Through our partners and neighbors, we help find a variety of homestay or private housing options near Royal Roads’ campus, and the shops and services you need.
Accommodation Planning
We know that coming to Canada is an adventure. International students adapt to a new country, a new language, new studies and new friends, all at the same time. A calm, safe home is key to academic success and personal happiness. As an international university, we have the experience to help our students from around the world find the right accommodation. We offer our support from the beginning of your adventure to the end.
Many of our students have lived in “homestays” – welcoming families who provide you with both private and shared amenities. Victoria has hundreds of families who gladly host international students.
Through our own networks, and organizations that specialize in finding homestays, Royal Roads is able to help you find your own private, furnished bedroom, and quiet study area. Often, there can be options to your homestay, too – your preferences for meal plans, for example.
Other Housing Options
There are many choices of private housing close to the Royal Roads campus, from studio apartments to entire houses. Our website can also help you find convenient housing.
Different from traditional business programs, the MGM teaches you to see past the numbers and to the people within the company.

Public Transportation
BC Transit provides bus service at regular intervals to the Royal Roads University campus. In the neighbourhood, the Langford Trolley will take you to dozens of local shops and recreation sites but does not stop on campus.
Cycling
Royal Roads University actively promotes cycling to and from campus, as well as around our campus. Many cyclists take the popular Galloping Goose Trail, a 60km walking/biking corridor. This well-tended trail takes you from surrounding communities to the main gate of Royal Roads. There are commuter friendly shower rooms and lockers on campus for cyclists.
Local Services
You can find virtually everything you need on the “Westshore” of Victoria, twenty minutes from the downtown core. Close by, the Westshore Town Centre offers a spacious, comfortable movie theatre – entertainment and shopping together. Students can find almost everything for day-to-day needs at nearby plazas and markets: the Westshore Town Centre, Millstream Village, Goldstream Avenue and Capital City Centre.
Food Services
On campus, the Habitat Café offers a comfortable atmosphere, and a varied menu of hot and cold food and beverages, available all day. At Capital City Centre, less than 1km from campus, you’ll find a number of restaurants, and a large grocery store is close by.

With a population of nearly four million, Seattle is similar to Vancouver in size, entertainment, shopping and “personality”. City Life
Shopping: Victoria offers a good variety of shopping for every budget. At the high end, you can find fashions from Armani to Zegna; and at more affordable prices, small shops and boutiques can be found throughout the city. The 2010 Winter Olympics showed the world a sense of home-grown Roots fashion sense, and of course, there’s always our world-famous Hudson’s Bay Company. Victoria offers all different fashion styles to suit every student budget.
Dining: From the freshest seafood to an incredible variety of international cuisines, Victoria offers a wide variety of restaurants. Many restaurants’ prices are just right for a student’s budget.
Arts & Culture
Art lovers around the world know Victoria and the west coast from the paintings of Emily Carr, who lived in Victoria. Over time, Victoria has developed into a hub for everything from paintings to glassworks to weaving. As well, we respect the value and beauty of our indigenous peoples’ art and traditions, which is featured prominently through the city and province.

From its very English origins (when the city was founded in 1858) today’s Victoria has a sophisticated, international flavour and spectacular natural beauty. Every year, more than 3.5-million tourists visit us – which helps make Victoria even more international in flavour! With this many tourists and guests, we’re used to hosting friends from around the world, always giving them a warm, friendly welcome.

Outdoor Activities
On land or at sea, outdoor activities are possible 12 months of the year in our mild climate. From whale watching to kayaking, some of the world’s best scuba-diving, or hiking the famous West Coast Trail, visitors will delight in the wild beauty of the Island.
Victoria has more than 18 golf courses, ranging from community driving ranges to the Master’s level.
Greater Victoria has 48 regional, provincial and federal parks for hiking, mountain-biking, horseback-riding, swimming, fishing, boating, sailing and beachcombing.
Join a local sports team: soccer (football), baseball/softball, running groups and more.
Vancouver Island offers some of the best eco-adventure nature tours in the world. Animal sightings are common, with ample opportunity to see orca, grey and humpback whales, bald eagles, seals, sea lions, otters, bears and a huge variety of sea and bird life.
With all that the destination has to offer in the great outdoors, it’s no wonder that Victoria has held the title of Canada’s Fittest City and the Cycling Capital of Canada. An additional fun fact is that 13 per cent of the Canadian Olympic team that participated in the 2008 Olympic Summer Games in Beijing, China were from Victoria. Numerous world-class athletes and medalists, such as Roland Green, Dave Calder, Simon Whitfield, Ryder Heshjdaal, Silken Laumen and members of the Canadian Men’s Rugby Team, call Victoria home.
