Welcome...I am delighted to welcome you to this magazine, designed to introduce you to Royal Princess and all she has to off er. Innovative and stylish, Royal Princess represents the next generation of Princess Cruises ships, with a host of features that are new not only to Princess, but to the world of cruising.

The new Royal Princess marks an evolution for Princess Cruises, enhancing the cruise experience for passengers and setting a new standard for cruising. We like to say that

Royal Princess will be ‘lighting the waves’, and you will notice this theme onboard the ship, with exquisite lighting featured throughout and a spectacular water and light show to enjoy, an industry fi rst.

Boasting a central hydrotherapy pool with a dramatic cascading rain shower and therapeutic air jets, The Enclave offers passengers warm stone beds and soothing waterbeds on which to recline and relax. Revitalising sessions in a variety of steam and sauna options use different temperatures, humidity zones, and aroma infusions to stimulate the senses: choose from a Turkish Hammam, a Roman-style ceramic Caldarium imbued with herbal aromas, a warm, dry Laconium, or four different stress-busting sensory shower experiences: Tropical Rain, Cold Mist, Rain Shower or Siberian Shower.

For a personalised spa experience, the Scrub and Shine Bar offers a ‘Mixologist’ to create the perfect bespoke blend of salt, sugar and spices for a customised pre-treatment scrub designed to prepare your body for the pampering ahead. Not every day can be a holiday, but that doesn’t mean you can’t escape completely. Try our relaxation tips and feel your distress becoming de-stressed…

1. Do less. Taking on too much can result in stress and a sense of failure when things are left undone. Focus on one important task a day; that way, anything else you achieve is a bonus. Procrastinating? Perhaps. Less stressful? Defi nitely.

2. Switch off your phone. Yes, we know. Seems unimaginable doesn’t it? No texts, no calls, no personal emails, no Facebook. Now think how many more minutes (or hours, who are we kidding?) you have added to your day.

3. Ditch the caffeine. Ok, not completely, but cut down a bit. Caffeine raises the heart rate and the stress hormone cortisol – great if you’re a hard-nosed businessman getting ready to buy/sell all day but, for the rest of us, it can take its toll. Fruit tea anyone?

4. Make time for yourself, but that doesn’t necessary mean being on your own. See a friend, take 10 minutes to play with a pet, listen to your favourite song with no distractions, or simply spend a few minutes breathing deeply, focusing on relaxing each muscle in your neck, back and shoulders as you do.

5. Plan a holiday. Naturally we are biased on this front, but booking early gives you something positive to look forward to, and something to think about outside of the stresses and tensions of every day. Of course, once you get onboard, that’s when the real relaxation starts…

There’s no place like home,’ said Dorothy, and she had a point. But sometimes a home-from-home is just what you need.

No chores to do, no food to prepare, just time to yourself to relax and indulge the senses. The staterooms on Royal Princess have been designed with all this in mind, combining home comforts and inviting décor with luxurious extras and more personal space than ever.

Picture the scene: you, relaxing on a balcony – all outdoor staterooms have one – with a glass of wine in one hand and a good book in the other, occasionally glancing up at the horizonas it hugs both sea and sky in the distance.Or maybe that’s just my idea of perfection.

Perhaps you would rather make useof the comfy sofa in your Deluxe Balcony –a more spacious new stateroom option for Royal Princess – to sit and watch a show on your fl atscreen TV? Or maybe you’d rather indulge in a leisurely shower, using the all-new adjustable massage shower heads included in every stateroom?

Fancy a lazy soak in the tub instead? Then perhaps a Suite or Mini-Suite is for you. You’ll be greeted with a welcome glass of champagne and spoiled with not one but two fl atscreen TVs. In a Suite, you’ll have a soundstation dock for your iPod too, so you can enjoy a relaxing bath to a soundtrack of your favourite tunes. Bliss.

Afew years ago, Teresa Anderson, Vice President of Interior Design at Princess Cruises, was on a trip

to Las Vegas with her husband, who is in the hotel business. Like many visitors to the city, she headed to a shopping mall and found herself browsing luxury boutiques, each fi lled with opulent designs that left her coveting some of the pieces on display. But it was not the clothing and handbags

that caught Teresa’s eye: a “magnifi cent sculpted staircase, like a piece of architectural jewellery crafted from metal and marble in sensual curves” stayed with her long after that afternoon of window shopping.

Today, Teresa is supervising the interior fi tting of Royal Princess to her specifi cations, and the fl agship feature is the dramatic central Atrium, which boasts panoramic elevators and two “sculptural staircases that span three decks and were inspired by that design I saw back in Vegas. They feel like they are suspended in mid-air, because they are surrounded by glass.”

Growing up in Lima, Peru, Teresa always loved art and creativity, but she didn’t train as an interior architect until she reached her 30s, when she fi nally found her calling. “I am always photographing details wherever I go: a geometric pattern on a plate in a Paris museum that I can use as a starting point for a carpet, or an orchid in my offi ce that has inspired a design for an elaborate ceiling in one of the ship’s restaurants.”

Based in California, Teresa is a global magpie, travelling the world collating ideas, favouring intricate decoration, luxurious materials and tactile textures over the pure, pared down minimalist aesthetic. “I love to blend many design genres to create my own style: the organic shapes of Art Nouveau and the dramatic graphic lines of Art Deco,” she says, her eyes lighting up. “I like Lalique, and Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Frank Gehry’s avant-garde curved architecture and Gaudi’s crazy, colourful designs. I believe that’s what Princess Cruises is all about – taking infl uences from fashion, from art, from history... what you capture when you’re travelling the world.”

Question time...Contemporary or classic?Both, mixed together with careful balance.

Neutrals or colours?Splashes of colour against neutral whiteor cream tones to bring harmony.

Marble or wood?I like both, together. I use every single marble I can fi nd, and mix it with wood, metalwork and glass.

Duvet or traditional bedlinens?

I prefer to walk into a space with a bed that talks to me: lots of bed pillows on beautiful crisp white tailored monogrammed sheets.

Cocktail or coff ee?I like espresso, a beautiful cup of tea,or a fresh juice – or a Campari on therocks if I am in Italy.

Like sweet treats? You’ll The Pastry ShopYes, that’s right, a pastry shop. At sea. Another fi rst for the world of cruising, this relaxed venue is a dedicated space offering a wide selection of delectable treats – not just pastries but hot desserts and fl ambés too – along with a full-range coffee bar. A wonderful place to while away an hour or two, but you may need to try out the jogging circuit afterwards!

Also excellent: Gelato, an equally naughty venue, which offers indulgences of the iced variety. Designer sundaes, frosty shakes, homemade waffl e ice-cream cones and more await at this authentic Italian-style gelateria.

Like live music? You’ll Crooners Lounge & BarBars don’t get much cooler than Crooners. Pull up a chair, peruse the extensive martini menu (there are 75 varieties to choose from) and then sit back and enjoy the entertainment provided by a pair of duelling glass pianos.

Like elegant dining? You’ll Chef’s Table Lumiere

Situated in the refi ned aft Allegro dining room, the Chef’s Table Lumiere offers an exclusive and truly unique dining experience within one

of the ship’s most elegant venues. Once seated around the glass sculptured table – a spectacular custom-made glass design – passengers are

surrounded by a curtain of light, illuminating the space beautifully and enveloping them softly as they enjoy the most memorable of meals.

Also excellent: the sophisticated Crown Grill, where you can enjoy delicious seafood – lobster, scallops, mussels and more – prepared

especially for you by the onboard chefs, and mouthwatering cooked-to-order Sterling Silver steaks.

Like Italian cuisine?You’ll Sabatini’sInspired by the palette (and palate) of Tuscany, Sabatini’s is Princess’s signature speciality restaurant, serving authentic Italian dishes from its à la carte menu, including delights such as Sformato di Carciofi Gratinati al Castelrosso (twice-baked artichoke souffl é) and Tris d’Aragosta (lobster three ways). Located in the Atrium, Sabatini’s will house an impressive wine display, featuring a selection of sought-after ‘Super Tuscan’ wines, and special tasting events for sampling them.Also excellent: Alfredo’s, where you can enjoy traditional hand-

You’ll Ocean TerraceA new dining concept for Princess Cruises, Ocean Terrace is the

place to go for sensational seafood. Drawing inspiration from all over

the world, the menu includes superb sushi and sashimi from the East,

ceviche from the Americas and classic caviar.

Also excellent: Vines wine bar, where a fabulous wine list is

accompanied by moreish mouthfuls of sushi and tapas.

speciality dining options including a crab shack (complete with mallets

and bibs). By night, Horizon Court becomes Horizon Bistro, with theme

nights offering anything from Brazilian churrascaria or Argentine gaucho

steakhouse themes to European bistro or British pub fare. Horizon Court

for Kids, meanwhile, offers a dedicated area for younger passengers, with

seating and décor to suit.

Also excellent: International Café, a Piazza favourite, where light bites

are available 24/7, including Princess’s famous fresh-baked cookies.

Woke up to find that Andrew had ordered us a romantic

balcony breakfast. Smoked salmon, champagne, the two

of us and the open sea – absolute bliss.

I treated myself to a couple of hours at Lotus Spa

this morning – I think I’m hooked on this relaxation

malarkey! I eventually dragged myself away from

the warm stone beds and met Andrew for lunch at Horizon Court. He was ravenous after his sporting exertions and headed straight for the pasta (which

did look amazing) but I was still feeling virtuous after my spa so I had a light salad.

After a spot of shopping – my head was turned by a gorgeous watch – we succumbed to temptation at Gelato, where we stopped for a delicious sweet crespelle. Naughty but very, very nice!

– and the atmosphere on deck was electric the whole time.

Tonight we are going to the Princess Theatre – we’ve heard that the performances are

phenomenal. Then we’ll go for a drink somewhere – Club 6 perhaps, if the show gets

us in the mood for a dance, or back out on top deck to soak up the party atmosphere!

There’s just so much to do here, and we haven’t even scratched the surface.

We might not have time to see it all, but we’ll certainly have fun trying...

In 1996, Sue and Nick Nash – then First Offi cer on the fi rst Royal Princess – christened their baby, Victoria, onboard the ship in Falmouth, using the

ship’s bell as the christening bowl. To commemorate the occasion, her name was subsequently engraved inside the bell and the family was later presented with this sentimental memento when the ship was decommissioned in 2011.

Earlier this year, Captain Nick Nash watched proudly as his 17 year-old daughter served as Madrina – or Godmother – to the new Royal Princess at her Float Out Ceremony, cutting the cord that began the fl ow of water into her building dock atthe Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy.

“The original Royal Princess left our fl eet some

time ago,” explained Princess President and CEO Alan Buckelew, presiding over the ceremony with Royal Princess’s designated Master, the British Captain Tony Draper. “But we wanted to bring the

spirit of that much-loved ship, also a prototype design,

to the new Royal Princess. And who better to do that

than Victoria, who has grown up into a beautiful young

lady who will now have a special connection with both vessels. Captain Nash was presented with the ship’s

bell from our original Royal Princess following its

decommissioning, and we are delighted that he has

very generously offered this bell to be placed aboard

our new Royal Princess, in honour of his daughter.”The two-day fl oat-out process saw the state-of-

the-art vessel afl oat for the fi rst time, as her building dock was slowly fi lled with water. Royal Princess then moved to a new dock where fi nal construction and interior fi tting is being completed ready for her debut in June 2013, when the new fl agship of the Princess fl eet will head to Southampton for her inaugural celebrations and the start of her seafaring life.

Royal AncestryIt was Diana, Princess of Wales, who gave the original Royal Princess a very regal christening in Southampton back in November 1984. As she set sail on her maiden voyage, Royal Princess was already creating ripples as the fi rst P&O Princess Cruises purpose-built cruise ship, the largest new British passenger ship in a decade, and one of the fi rst ships to completely dispense with interior cabins.
