With rookie coach Kevin Walters at the helm and the Blues bent on vengeance following last year’s record-breaking loss, Prince predicts an explosive opener at Sydney’s ANZ Stadium. “Game One of most series is a very close battle and this one will be no different. I expect a fiery encounter early, with the Mighty Maroons scraping to victory in the last 20 minutes,” Prince said. Mount Isa born Prince will cheer on the boys with an expected capacity crowd at Treasury’s LiveWire bar; home of the custom-made prize ‘Maroon Throne’ (pictured) valued at more than $7,500. While NSW has the home-game advantage, Prince said it’s experience and big game players giving Queensland the mental edge. “Kevvie [coach Kevin Walters] won’t change too much with regards to preparation and game plans; he’ll obviously work with his senior men to plot out a plan of attack to regain the shield for 2016,” Prince said. “Apart from the obvious star players including Thurston, Smith, Inglis… I’m looking forward to seeing how debutant Corey Oates will go. His form for the Broncos has been outstanding, with his tough kick returns, and his ability to finish off a backline move is second to none.” Prince is one of several Origin greats visiting Treasury’s Maroon Kingdom as part of Treasury’s Origin line-up, with Jharal Yow Yeh and Gorden Tallis touted for Queensland’s home game on 22 June and Lote Tuqiri for Game Three on 13 July. “It’s important to start the series with a win,” Prince said of Wednesday’s opener. “And with Game Two at Suncorp, a nice little victory and series win in front of 50-odd thousand Queenslanders would be a fairytale… No pressure!” ENDS.
