STUDENT OF THE WEEK

Dear Parents and Guardians, Enrolment for 2017 If you have a child who is turning 5 by the 30th April 2017, it is time to enrol for Prep 2017 now.

You can contact the school on 93039338 or access the school website for an enrolment form. www.roxburghpark.ps.vic.edu.au Every Day Counts

In primary schools, some students miss on average 3 weeks of school per year. That’s half a year of school by the end of year 6.

Why attendance is important ?

We all want our students to get a great education, and the building blocks for a great education begin with students coming to school each and every day.

If students miss school regularly, they miss out on learning the fundamental skills that will set them up for success in the later years of school.

There is no safe number of days for missing school – each day a student misses puts them behind, and can affect their educational outcomes.

Each missed day is associated with progressively lower achievement in

numeracy, writing and reading.

Parent clubs We have a Parent Club for parents seeking an active role in the school. Parent clubs give you the opportunity to participate and contribute to your school community and in partnership with school councils organise social, educational and fundraising activities.

DATES TO REMEMBER Monday 1st August –Tuesday 9th August Book Fair Tuesday 9th August Grade 4 Excursion Edendale Farm Thursday 18th August Grade 6 Excursion Immigration Museum Thursday 18th August BYOD Information Night 6-7pm Wednesday 31st August Prep Excursion Anakie Park Wednesday 31st August – 1st September Father’s Day Stall Tuesday 6th September Grade 5 Excursion Melbourne Museum Friday 9th September Hoop Time Grade 5/6 Wednesday 14th September Grade 6 Excursion Federation Square Friday 16th September Last Day Term 3 - Finish at 2.30pm

What we can do

The main reasons for absence are:

Sickness – There are always times when students need to miss school, such as when they’re ill. It’s vital that they’re only away on the days they are genuinely sick, and setting good sleep patterns, eating well and exercising regularly can make a big difference.

It's vital that holidays are planned during school holidays where possible, and not during the term if it can be avoided.

‘Day off’ – Think twice before letting your child have a ‘day off’ as they could fall behind their classmates – every day counts.

Remember, every day counts. If your child must miss school, speak with your classroom teacher as early as possible.Openly communicating with your child's school about all absences is a good way to prevent attendance issues being escalated to a School Attendance Officer.

At Home Thank you to parents who talk and listen to their child at the end of the school day. As you know It helps you find out what they have done at school, any positive experiences and also any difficulties they may be experiencing.
