Some of the membership committee who were hard at work pondering the weighty issues before them

THREE MINUTER: Tony Some of the highlights of the Cooma club activities over the years: ROTARY YOUTH PROGRAM, starting the same year as RYPEN, ran for five years and was a successful scheme involving all the Year 10 students from both St Pat’s and Monaro High. MONARO RETIREMENT VILLAS, now consisting of 19 villas and originally called the SIR WILLIAM HUDSON RETIREMENT VILLAS, were started with $15,000, and are the result of the drive and vision of members and non-Rotarians such as Rob Simms, Bob King, Doug Treloar, and Elido Fachin. Tony is the last remaining Rotarian on the committee and is looking for a replacement. NORRIS PARK – a great testament to the work of Dave Holgate and Keith Montague and club members. Lions were part of the work team also. FUN RUN from the Murrumbidgee to Centennial Park was held for about 10 years and attracted up to 600 runners/walkers. PAPUA NEW GUINEA - Dave H went there in the 80s with John Wood to build a church hall, and later teams that included Chris Adams, Peter, Steve and Tom Shirvington and Kevin, among others, helped to install a water project as well as computers in a village school and bikes for the kids. TIMOR LESTE– Tony has visited Timor three times, giving his services as a dentist. OKTOBERFEST ran for a few years while an AIR SHOW was stage twice. YOUTH EXCHANGE – the club has supported this program over many years. We have hosted DISTRICT ASSEMBLIES AND ANNUAL CONFERENCES.

MARKET REPORT: Carlo Total profit was $2732.90 – market fees $916,

food van $1429.80, coffee van $387.10, wishing well $122.40 divided equally between Rural Fire Service and Red Cross, 11 volunteers, 68 service hours, 39 stalls. Well done and thanks to all who worked so hard. BOARD MATTERS: Mark JN

➢ Brenda has met with Daud and Penny regarding possible international projects

➢ Certificates of Service should be awarded to non-Rotarians for their help

➢ new banners have arrived and debuted at the markets

➢ Busking t-shirts are to be returned so that they can be stored for next year’s event

➢ John Bujalski is to construct an enclosed noticeboard for outside P.D. Murphys

FUN COMMITTEE: John K Meeting next Wednesday at 5.30pm. All welcome. Bring ideas! RYLA: Richard H announced that the club will be supporting Niam Foxcroft at RYLA. He works for Snowy Hydro Ltd as a business trainee and attends TAFE; he was Young Australian of the Year for Towong Shire recently. BUSKING – TV If you didn’t catch the tv appearance of Allan and the busking, just Google ‘Channel 9 busking’ and the first site listed will have the video. THOUGHT OF THE WEEK: Marco Good plans fail only if they have bad luck; bad plans need good luck to succeed.

THE FOUR WAY TEST

1. Is it the truth?

2. Is it fair to all concerned?

3. Will it build goodwill and better friendships?

4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

AVENUES OF SERVICE For years, Rotary’s commitment to Service Above Self has been channelled through the Avenues of Service which form the foundation of club activity. CLUB SERVICE focuses on strengthening fellowship and ensuring the effective functioning of the club. VOCATIONAL SERVICE encourages Rotarians to serve others through their vocations and to practice high ethical standards. COMMUNITY SERVICE covers the projects and activities the club undertakes to improve life in its community. INTERNATIONAL SERVICE encompasses actions taken to expand Rotary’s humanitarian reach around the glob and to promote world understanding and peace. NEW GENERATIONS SERVICE recognises the positive change implemented by youth and young adults through leadership and development activities, eg RYLA, YEP.
