Weekly News and Announcements

Hello Rotarians and Friends! After this week, I only have TWO MORE

more newsletters to go (yeehaw!) President Julia was back from the RI

Convention today or, more appropriately, her family reunion. I swear, the

woman knows EVERYBODY! And, as a demonstration of her dedication,

she was at the meeting today after just arriving home around 2 a.m. this

morning. That is dedication! This was also her last weekly meeting as our

President. (Next week is Presidents Night and she’s out of town on the

28th). I can honestly say it has been an absolute pleasure to work with her

this year.

Our Chris Shape was in the hospital this week so he could not do

Fellowship. President Julia stepped in and told us all about the Convention,

shared pictures, and let us know that she was able to talk to folks from

Kampala, Uganda about our international project to help acid attack

survivors.

Our Guests This Week: Jenna Petrolla from the Regional Chamber and

Linda Tiihonen from The Fairhaven Foundation (our speaker).

Presidents Night – Wednesday, June 21, is our Presidents Night

celebration. If anyone now wishes to attend this event, they will need to

email Cheryl IMMEDIATELY. Monday will be the last day we can take

reservations.

Membership Dues – Dues must be paid in full by June 30. Contact Cheryl

if you have not yet paid them and need to make payment arrangements.

Cortland Rotary’s 28th Annual Golf Classic – The Cortland Club’s Golf

Classic will be held on July 19. For $85 you will enjoy an absolutely

wonderful day of golf and fun activities. Bob Hoy told us a few weeks ago

that he is hoping to put together a foursome. If interested, please

contact Bob. A copy of the registration form was emailed with last week’s

newsletter.

Foundation Board Meeting – The Foundation Board will meet on

Wednesday, June 28, 11:30 a.m. at Enzo’s.

Club Assembly – We will be holding a very important Club Assembly on

Wednesday, June 28th. Andy will be going over all the special plans and

activities we have lined up during our Centennial year. Please plan to

attend. We promise you will be impressed with what is to come.

July Meeting Schedule

As members know, Enzo’s is closed the first two weeks of July. We have

made the following plans for those two weeks and are asking members to

make notes on their calendars regarding the offsite locations:

July 5 – We will meet at Perkins Park in Warren at one of the pavilions.

A picnic lunch will be provided for $10. We will be having hamburgers,

hot dogs, baked beans, etc. Yum! Sign-up sheets are available at each

meeting, so see Venita Collins to sign up.

July 12 – We will meet at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station in Vienna

and it will be critical that members sign up in advance so that the Air

Base has time to do some vetting. Because security is essential, members

will be asked to provide driver’s license information to Venita Collins

ASAP. If for some reason you cannot attend a meeting to sign up, you

can contact Venita at [email protected]. This is a secure

email system. Members will also be given a windshield tour of the base.

Anyone ordering a lunch for either/both of these offsite meetings and

then does not attend, will be invoiced.

More information will be shared over the coming weeks.

The Fairhaven Foundation

Linda Tiihonen from the Fairhaven Foundation

joined us today to talk about the programs

available to those with developmental

disabilities from childhood through senior living.

The Service and Support Administration helps

individuals gain access to resources in the community, not only the clients

but their family, guardians, and caregivers as well. The SSA team

develops a individualized plan to ensure that needs are met, provides

monitoring to ensure that services are being appropriately delivered, and

crisis intervention is provided when necessary on a 24-hour basis.

Rotary

Code of

Conduct

As a Rotarian, I will:

Act with integrity and high ethical standards in my personal

and professional

life.

Deal fairly with others

and treat them and their

occupations with respect.

Use my

professional skills through

Rotary to mentor young people, help those with

special needs, and improve

people’s quality of life

in my community

and the world.

Avoid behavior that

reflects adversely on

Rotary or other

Rotarians.

They also have a Community Employment Services that helps individuals

who want to work find and retain jobs that match their skills and

interests. The Employment Service also provides training opportunities

to help ensure that job seekers are successful in obtaining paid

employment.

Linda very kindly acknowledged the support our club has provided to

Fairhaven clients for the Art Show. Each year, the Show features the

art produced by Fairhaven clients and where twelve are selected. Their

art is featured in the annual calendar produced by the organization.

Twelve honorable mentions are also chosen. Linda said that the artists in

this program have blossomed and even more doors are being opened for

those who wish to develop and improve their artistic skills.

Fairhaven assists approximately 1,000 Trumbull County residents with

developmental disabilities. They do everything possible to help them

feel that they, too, are a vital part of our community. Anyone wishing to

learn more about the Foundation and its work can go to

fairhavenpgm.com

Our thanks go out to Linda for joining us today. She is more than

welcome to stop back anytime.
