We were entertained by two teams from the Shore School who attended MUNA (Model United Nations Assembly) held at Knox Grammar School on 5th and 6th April this year.MUNA simulates the workings of the United Assembly by having teams represent a particular UN country in debates on matters of world political and social concern.The first Shore team consisted of Mark Lovell, Tasman Van Loon and Lucas Humbel representing Egypt. The second team consisted of Calvin Li, Mathew Myles and Hugh Roberts(absent) representing Mongolia.We heard from each of the above individually about their experiences, how they debated global political issues with plenty of banter and humour and how they were totally immersed in what was going on. They all agreed the experience created interest and opened up a new world for them, as well as improving their public speaking and debating skills and meeting new people from different schools.It was an interesting night as we were entertained by our enthusiastic future leaders and politicians. Fun Run 2014The Fun Run this year is to be held on Sunday July 27th, 2014.Duncan Campbell has asked that everyone will be needed to help at this event. So please ensure that it is in your calendars so as to reserve your time when needed leading up to the day and of course for the day.
Last Year’s Fun Run was a great success with 814 participants and it raised approximately $8000 for our Rotary projects.
Let’s make this year’s Fun Run even bigger and better and give Duncan the support that he needs so that he can carry out his usual professional organisation of the Run
Our PR Officer has got our Community Service Awards publicised in the North Shore Times.
Well done.

Report on Roseville Chase District Grant 2013-2014 for Philipines Project
(PP Neil Howie to Tony Castly DRFC)
We are very pleased to report that the project has been successfully completed.
With the benefit of the project funds of $10000.00 from our Club ( which includes the Grant advance of $2000.00 ) Internationall Care Miinistries ( ICM ) has carried out programs in the Province of Negros Occidental for the essential education and feeding of families including the:-
• education over 16 weeks of 185 impoverished families including 555 children in ICM’s “Transform” program;
• feeding of malnourished children with 5 highly nutritional meals per week over the16 weeks; and
• training of the mothers in that period in 48 sessions covering hygiene,water purification,nutrition,veggie growing,starting small business, and assistance in obtaining birth and marriage certificates.
66% of the children who received the meals increased their weight by at least 15%.
ICM expects that, as result of the programs, 300 small businesses will be started, 160 new personal gardens will be established and that there will be a 13% drop in in serious illness and a 34% increase in family incomes.
Due to Hurricane Haiyan, the Club had to cancel its planned visit to Bacolod but we are looking to visit there in the 2015 calendar year to follow up on the families that have been assisted by the project and also those that we have assisted through the donation of additional funds for hurricane relief.
Please let me know if further information is required or would be of assistance. Kind regards Neil Howie RCRC Foundation Chair

ABOUT ROTARYThe world’s first service club, the Rotary Club of Chicago, Illinois, USA, was formed on 23 February 1905 by Paul Harris.
Rotary is a worldwide organisation of business and professional leaders that provides humanitarian service, encourages high ethical standards in all vocations, and helps build goodwill and peace in the world. More than 1.2 million Rotarians belong to over 34,100 Clubs in 210 countries and geographical areas. Rotary Club membership represents a cross-section of the community’s business and professional men and women. The world’s Rotary Clubs meet weekly and are non-political, non-religious, and open to all cultures, races, and creeds.
The main objective of Rotary is service – in the community, in the workplace, and throughout the world. Rotarians develop community service projects that address many of today’s most critical issues, such as children at risk, poverty and hunger, the environment, illiteracy, and violence. They also support programs for youth, educational opportunities and international exchanges for students, teachers, and other professionals, and vocational and career development.
The Rotary motto is Service Above Self.

OBJECT OF ROTARYThe Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:
FIRST. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
SECOND. High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
THIRD. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life;
FOURTH. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
