ROTARY CLUB OF LANGLEY E-ROTENOTES CONTINUED

FRANK AND BONNIE BUCHOLZ CONTINUED:

Frank and Bonnie landed at Freetown Airport. The airport is on the opposite side of the river. Freetown is the Capital of Sierra Leone. They found Sierra Leone different, interest-ing and intense. Most people do not have jobs, living day to day. In downtown Freetown there were no working traffic lights. There is a Cotton Tree that is said to be 300 years old in the middle of Freetown, evidently it was set up for slaves to return to in late 1700.

Kabala is one of the most ethnically diverse cities in Sierra Leone, with no single ethnic group forming a majority. Its inhabitants are largely from the Kuranko, Mandingo,Yalunka, Limba and Fula ethnic groups. The population of Kabala is largely muslim. Kabala is one of the few major cities in Northern Sierra Leone with a very small minority Temne population, the largest ethnic group in Northern Sierra Leone.

The following picture is students at Kabala CRC Elementary and Secondary School, where Christina is teaching. All the children know O Canada. This is a Muslim school.

Frank had the chance to meet with and receive a gift of fruit and vegetables from the Kabala chapter of The People's Foundation
