Happy Birthday to the Rotary Club of
Diamond Creek! Congratulations on achievements over the past twenty years! Those achievements are varied and many, but ultimately it is fair to say that many people have benefitted from the work undertaken by our club both in the local and international community. During the past twenty years some enormous projects have been undertaken – in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Preston the club has built a house; annually we run the Diamond Creek Rotary Town Fair; and the War Memorial was relocated. But it is not always the huge projects that have made the greatest impression. As members look back over the years that they have been involved with the club, it is likely that some of the simplest things have made the greatest impressions. No matter how long you have been in the club, there will be special moments that will always remain with you. Think about it! What is your special memory of your time with the club? There may be many but one may stand out. Let us use this time also to show the local community just what the club has achieved over these past twenty years. For the month of June, we will be having a display at Diamond Valley Library. Call past and see it and be proud. In the week following our celebration, there will be material in the Diamond Valley Leader congratulating us on our milestone. Don’t forget to read it.
Our 20th Birthday Celebration will take place on 2nd June and I am so pleased that almost all of our members will be in attendance, as well as some of our past members, Past District Governors and members from other clubs. This will be a great night – one where we can all sit back and enjoy the festivities. At this point I wish to convey my thanks to Ern Wardell for the enormous effort that he has put into organising the Anniversary Party. His enthusiasm and attention to detail will ensure a great night! Greg Adams has put his heart and soul, not to mention countless hours, into compiling the history of the club and I thank him sincerely for his efforts. I am sure that everyone present will be extremely impressed when they open their books. It may well be, when you look back in years to come, that the 20th Anniversary is one of your special memories, or it may just draw your mind to many other events over the past twenty years of life in the Rotary Club of Diamond Creek. keeping up with the joneses! “When we recall the past, we usually find that it is the simplest things - not the great occasions - that in retrospect give off the greatest glow of happiness.” Bob Hope

Apologies: Phil C, Tina, John & Eileen, Linda, Geoff Swan.
Make-ups: Greensborough Breakfast - Tina, Alan J, Rob, Rod McK, Pat, John & Eileen
Mental Health Course - Alan W, Pat & Greg A.
It was awesome to see how many members were wearing hats of every description. Scottish, Swedish/ Norse, Japanese, Football colours, cowboy, wizardry, caps of all descriptions. It was a great effort from everyone.
Rod McK spoke about the Town Fair. He has requested that members and other helpers be available for the entire weekend - Sat Fair day and Sun Clean up. Clean up is very important as we are under an obligation to leave the area as we found it plus. Town Fair is 8th with the clean up party on the 9th September.
President Alan presented Warwick with his Rotary Shirt.
It was reported that Robin Chapple is not well and Bob Eycken has pneumonia but is getting better.
Alan White gave a brief overview of the Mental Health Course - it was very successful and very full on.
Ern reported that so far he had around 108 responses for the 20th Anniversary night.
It was noticed that Brian had become ill, an ambulance was called and assistance was given until the ambulance arrived. He was transported to the Austin Hospital.
The meeting was Closed in respect for Brian.

VALE PDG BRIAN BOWEN
It is with much regret that the Rotary Club of Diamond Creek notes the sad passing of Past District Governor Brian Bowen. For the past 39 years, Brian has been dedicated to Rotary and his steadfast commitment over those years has helped to better the lives of so many people both in the local and world communities. A few years after moving to Rosanna, in 1973 Brian became a Charter Member of the Rotary Club of Heidelberg North (now called Rosanna). He became Club President in 1982 and after completing his Presidential year, continued his commitment by working hard at District level. Brian became the District Governor of District 9790 in 1988 – 1989. His dedication to Rotary has been unparalleled, and he has held over 40 positions at District level in the past 30 years – an incredible achievement. He held the position of District Trainer for several years in the late 1990’s – 2000. In his role as Managing Director of Renault Australia he flew all over the world, but this travel also enabled him to be able to visit Rotary Clubs worldwide, thus combining his career with his passion for Rotary. He retired in the 1990’s and moved to Hurstbridge to operate a Protea Farm, before moving to Wattle Glen and then to Diamond Creek approximately 8 years ago. It was during this period that Brian transferred to the Rotary Club of Diamond Creek in January 2001. During this time he involved himself in Club activities and imparted his vast knowledge of Rotary procedures and policies to many of the members. Keen to assist and ensure that his club was successful, Brian could always be depended upon provide information and ideas. Although his health was declining this year, he was still determined to attend as many meetings as possible and to discuss Rotary matters with the President and Members. Thoroughly deserving of being a Paul Harris Fellow Sapphire, Brian spent much of his lifetime working hard for Rotary. He was married to Betty for over 60 years and has four daughters. PEACE through Service: In Rotary, our business is not profit. Our business is
peace. Our reward is not money, but the happiness and satisfaction of seeing
a better, more peaceful world — one that we have achieved through our own
efforts - SAKUJI TANAKA, 2012-2013 RI President
PDG Brian Bowen will indeed be greatly missed.
