President's MessageDear Rotarians, Caution…Rotarians at work! What a busy month we’ve had. We hosted RotaryLeadership Institute at Gordon State College. It was great working with the RLI Sunshine Division and PDG and RLI Director, Cheryl Greenway. We also had some wonderful trainers which included DGE Raymond Ray and ADG Stephanie Windham. I would also like to thank our club members who helped welcome everyone: Charles Glass, Bob Taylor, Missy Kendrick, Dorothy Carter and Mark Rischbeiter. Interact Advisor, Carol Parish, and 4 members of our Interact Club acted as greeters and observed the class. We are proud of our members whocompleted RLI Part 1: Molly Shiver, Paul Stinson, Errol Hines, Frank Usher and Bryan Clanton. Congratulations to you all! Many thanks go to Gordon State College and Community Ed Director, Debbie Christian, for helping organize the facility and meals. Our Gun Raffle drawing has begun. Thank you to those Rotarians who worked tirelessly to sale tickets. The funds will give us an opportunity to be gracious with our support for our community needs. Our 5K Zombie Run/Costume Walk was so much fun. Thank you, Rotarians for your support and time to make this event successful. I would also like to thank the City of Barnesville, Barnesville PoliceDepartment, Coach Oberg and the LC Cross Country Team, Ramah Church Women’s Group, Gordon College Rotaract Club and LC Interact Club. November promises to be a productive and busy month as we prepare for our upcoming projects: Operation Christmas Child, 3rd Grade Dictionary project, Cake Auction and more… I am reminded this Thanksgiving season that you are “a gift to the World”. God Bless you, Kelly

November is Rotary Foundation MonthThe Rotary Foundation transforms your gifts into projects that change lives both close to home and around the world. As the charitable arm of Rotary, we tap into a global network of Rotarians who invest their time, money, and expertise into our priorities, such as eradicating polio and promoting peace.

Foundation grants empower Rotarians to approach challenges such as poverty, illiteracy, andmalnutrition with sustainable solutions that leave a lasting impact. In 1917, at the annual Rotary International Convention in Atlanta, RI President Arch C. Klumph proposed an endowment "for the purpose of doing good in the world." His vision became The Rotary Foundation. Strong financial oversight, a stellar charity rating, and a unique funding model make the very most of your contribution. Give and become a part of Rotary’s life-changing work!

RLI Training Session (cont.) has been, where it is now and a vision ofwhat Rotary can be.” Rotary Leadership Institute consists ofthree parts that build on each other to helpprovide a thorough understanding of theRotary organization, its history, how andwhy we serve in our communities and theworld. If you have not attended an RLIsession yet you should watch for a futureoffering near us, it will be well worth yourtime. You can find the scheuled courses here if you are interested in a future event.

My Rotary Momentby Ryran Traylor

Over the years I've enjoyed many highlights as a member of the RotaryClub of Barnesville. Most people would think that my most fun highlightswould be during the time in which I was President, but I will say that it waswhen I first joined the club. At that time I had the pleasure of having secretaryMilton Glass sign my official Rotary card and I enjoyed the opportunity ofeating at the table with Cyrus Nenuer, Emmett Coleman, Lee Woodall, JoeEdwards and Quimby Melton. They taught me early on what it meant to be a Rotarian. They shared a lot of history with me, while emphasizing that we were more than a social lunch club. We often discussed our obligation of "service above self", and "going above and beyond"! Those conversations really stood out to me when our club, in conjunction with the Ramah Church Men's Ministry, built a 150' professional wheel chair ramp. I met with the family of the recipient the week before to obtain measurements, I could tell they had a lot of doubt that we could complete the task. Not to mention being able to do it in one day. The family's response at the completion our project reminded me of the conversations shared with some of our county's finest leaders. Always Remembering... Service Above Self, and Going Above & Beyond.

5K Zombie Run/Fun Walk The Barnesville Rotary Club hosted its annual 5K Run/Fun Walk on Halloween. All proceeds will fund our community projects. This year over 40 participants completed the course, despite the zombies and other obstacles along the way. About a dozen Rotarians and some members of our Interact club helped with the run; registering runners, setting up the course, providing water along the route and refreshments at the end, and managing the times and awards ceremony. We are also grateful for the Lamar County High School Track coaches and members that handled the technical details of planning the course and timing the runners. Most of all we are grateful to the sponsors of

the race that supported the event and allowed us to raise funds to help serve the community.

The run also provided some great views of the decorations along the route. Thomaston and Greenwood Street residents both put on a special show thisyear with elaborate inflatable characters, spooky spider

webs, ghoulish ghosts and goblins, and other realistic horrors.

The weather was perfect and thewhole event was fun and beneficial toall concerned. The sponsors got localadvertising, the workers got to enjoysome great costumes and earlymorning festivities, and the runnersgot their exercise along with a Zombie 5K T-shirt. We couldn't have asked for more than that!

District Grant Works for International Efforts Sherry Farr left this week for the Ukraine on amission to provide health care and education tosome local people there. Her mission team willbe in the Ivano-Frankovish area of the Ukraine,on the Western side of the country well awayfrom the fighting and turmoil in the East. OurDistrict Grant allowed us to purchase somemedical supplies that are not readily availablein that part of Europe. These supplies will helpthe team be much more effective in their patienttreatments and will allow them to leave somemedicines for treating longer term issues likediabetes and high blood pressure. Operation Christmas Child is in full swing this month and another benefactor of our District Grant funds. Our club will help make a difference in the lives of children around the world by providing extra boxes for the local drive. You can learn more about Operation Christmas Childat their website. We will also have a program on November 17th to support this great programwith our gifts of shoe boxes. Plan to help pack boxes that day!

What is in our Future? There are several events coming up for our club. Mark these dates on your calendar! If you have an event you want to add to the list let a club officer know.
