PeterPage–TrekforKids.LongtermmemberPeterPagedescribed graphically hisadventures during car ralliesthroughout the Eastern statesof Australia which raisehundreds of thousands ofdollars for the StarlightChildren’s Foundation. Peter’sadventures began in 2015when he was invited to fill avacant spot in his sonMichael’s car. Michael hadpreviously been involved inthebashfor15years.Upto40
carsparticipateannuallyintheTrek4KidsRally.Thisisnotaspeedtrialorrace. There are strict guidelines and checkpointswhere carsmust reportandscoringisbasedonmeetingstrictcriteria.Petershowedsomeexcitingfootageof the cars as they traversed thewinding and slipperydirt roadscommononsignificantpartsofthetrek. Each entrant must raise a designated amount to qualify for entry andfurtherfundraisingtakesplacethroughouttheevent.Petercommentedonthegenerosityofthegeneralpublicandtoleranceoftheroadpatrolpoliceas the rally passed through many country towns along the route. Thedrivers and crew did not go hungry or thirsty with food and beveragessupplied by Lion’s clubs en`route. Participants each pay $1000 to covertheir foodandshelterduringtheweeklong journey.Thedistancecoveredineachbashaverages2650km.Atotalof$220,000wasraisedinthe2015eventfromGriffithtoCoffsHarbourviafarwestNSWand$260,000inthe2016bashfromNowratoCanberraviacountryVictoriaandNSW.Peter circulated the comprehensive navigational guidelines and strictcheckpointlocations.Trek4Kids is a group of people who have come together to raise muchneededfundsfortheStarlightChildren’sFoundationandrunbyvolunteerswhodonottakeanadministrationfee,so100%ofthemoneyraisedgoesdirectlytotheStarlightChildren’sFoundation.The Starlight Children’s Foundation brightens the life of seriously illchildren,teenagersandtheirfamiliesacrossAustralia.ThankyouPeterforyourpresentationandcongratulationsandwelldonefortheworkyoudoassistingtomakethelivesofseriouslyillyoungpeopleandtheirfamiliesalittlehappier.

TheannualScienceDiscoveryDayconductedbytheUniversityofNewcastlewiththeassistanceoftheRotaryClubofNelsonBaywasonceagainaverysuccessfulandenjoyableeventforallinvolved.ScienceDiscoveryDay is conductedat several locationsand theTomareeeventcaters foryear6students fromall localschools.TheprogramaimstopromotethestudyofSTEMsubjects inhighschool and into higher levels of education. Science, technology, engineering and mathematics(STEM) are seen as priorities in providing science and technical leaders for our Nation’s futuredevelopment.Duringthedaytheyear6participantsundertakeinnovativeandchallengingscienceand engineering activities. They are guidedbyTomareeHigh School year 10 studentswhohaveparticipatedpreviously in themoreadvancedScienceandEngineeringChallengeDayheldat the
University.OurRotarymembersprovidesupportandencouragementtothestudentsaswellassettingupanddismantlingtheworklocationsandprovidinganexcellentlunch.Evaluation provided by the teachers was verypositiveandourmembersspokenotonlyabout thebenefit to the year 6 students but of the excellentcontributionoftheyear10Tomareestudents.
