Grade 8 @ RSS … IMPORTANT MEETING JANUARY 16th @ 7PM
As we enter the 2nd half of the school year, Mr. Kinghorn will be facilitating a parent meeting regarding Gr. 8
(English) at RSS next school year. This is an opportunity to answer questions, gain feedback and ensure clarity
regarding options for our current Gr. 7 (English) cohort. Without question, and given sufficient numbers, RSS can
support a vibrant, innovative and engaging Gr.8 program. We encourage all parents interested in ensuring a Gr. 8-9
experience at Rossland Summit School to attend this meeting. Your feedback is critical.

Some of our classes will be skating as part of their physical education program. We are gratefully accepting any good used skates, as this helps out those without and helps with the overall cost of the program. Thank-You!
Grade 4-9 Ski Days @ Red Mountain!
As part of our emphasis on healthy lifestyles and following the alternate activities as listed in the PE curriculum guide, our intermediate students will again have the option of attending two ski sessions in the New Year. What is RSS PAC fundraising for and spending $ on
Cafeteria Reno – our budget is approximately $30, 000.00, we have $13,872.00 to date, All funds raised at the
Christmas Market will be allocated to this project. Christmas Market - I would like to thank ALL of the Volunteers
especially Heidi McNair and Juanita Lankhaar who took over the crazy jobs of the night, and to Kate Wan for
organizing all of the music for the evening.

This market made just under $1000, less then last year. It was not as well attended by shoppers, but the vendors
were awesome (a bunch of new ones), and very generous with their prize donations, so thank you! Next year we will
be sure to allow at least 1.5 weeks after the Homespun and probably run it the first week of December. If anyone
has any feedback or suggestions please email me at [email protected].

ROSSLAND SUMMIT SCHOOL IS A PEANUT AND ALLERGY AWARE SCHOOL: FOODS CONTAINING TREE NUTS
ARE NOT TO BE CONSUMED ON SCHOOL PROPERTY.
Within our school community there are several students who have a potentially life-threatening allergy
(anaphylaxis) to foods, predominantly to peanuts and tree nuts (eg. almond, cashew, hazelnut, pistachio).
In consultation with Interior Health, we feel the best way to reduce the risk of accidental exposure to these
students is to respectfully ask for the co-operation of the parents/guardians within RSS to:
A: Not send peanut butter or products with peanuts or tree nuts listed in the ingredients.
B: Encourage your child to respect the severity of the situation, which in some cases is life- threatening.
C: PARENTS! If you decide to send in treats (birthdays etc.) you MUST notify your child’s teacher in
advance!
