A new volunteer group of knitters and crocheters will be meeting to make various items to donate. This group willbe making chemo caps, lap robes, prayer shawls, blankets, hats, etc. which will be donated to various localorganzations including the Echo Cancer Foundation at Backus Hospital, Project Linus, VFW and local schools.These donations will be a loving gift to cancer patients, children, homeless and to those in need. All items madeby this group will be donated. Please consider donating your time and talent and join this wonderful group.

Golden Nuggets ConcertSaturday, June 1st 2:00 p.m. First Baptist Church, Norwich

The Golden Nuggets, Rose City Senior Centers glee club, will be having a Spring SingConcert on Saturday, June 1st at the First Baptist Church, 239 West Main St., Norwich. This 2-hour concert willfeature all members of the Golden Nuggets along with the Rose City Senior Center’s combo band, the RoselandCombo. This event is free and open to the public. In 1833 PrudenceCrandall opened the first academy in New England exclusively for black women. The Prudence Crandall Museum is a National HistoricLandmark and State Archaeological Preserve. Following lunch,we take the short drive to board the catamaran Millennium for our Narragansett Bay LighthouseCruise. GARDEN WEEDING—To help the Senior Center Master Gardeners with weeding outdoor gardens. Thisvolunteer position requires standing, bending, kneeling, squatting, etc. in order to get the job done. Weedingwill be needed from May-October and you will work under the direction of the Senior Center Master Gardeners.

CRAFT INSTRUCTOR—We are looking for individuals who would like to volunteer their time to instructseniors in art or craft projects. You must provide the idea and knowledge to teach the project to others.Materials will be provided for the class. Please see Hilary to discuss your skills and ideas.

DINING ROOM—To help serve lunch, clear plates and help clean up after lunch. A commitment to at leastone day per week, from 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. required.

"As a young girl, I remember announcing to my family, “I am going to be an artist!” Art has always been a part of my life – from grade school to high school, college tothe time I spent studying with local artists. My interests range widely and I enjoy designing silkscreened fabrics, making natureprints, drawing, and painting in the tromp l’oeil style.  I established my businessLiz Originals early on, which encompassed these techniques in a variety ofapplications.  I print on clothing, canvas bags, baby items and do decorative paintingand stenciling on furniture and in peoples’ homes. I teach painting at the Rose City Senior Center and enjoy encouraging my studentsto develop their individual creativity and unique styles."

News from the Silver Palettethe Rose City Senior Center Art Class

The students from the Monday morning Art Class at the Rose City Senior Center recently displayed theirwork at the Lebanon Public Library’s annual “Equinox and the Arts Show”. The paintings were on display fromMarch 23rd to April 18th. The class was represented by Patricia Bromley, Natalie Caron, Carole Davis, GeraldineJohnson, Erna Luering, Shirley Marth, Mary Morrison, Donald Rivest, Verna Jean Souter, and Estelle Tedeschi.

Remember to check out the display cases at the Rose City Senior Center in the front lobby and the largedisplay case in the hallway near the library to see the classes’ latest work. SENIOR CENTER—Transportation to the Center is available beginning at 8:30 a.m., with return trips at 1 p.m.and 3:00 p.m. Please call the Center before Noon the day before, to schedule a ride for the next day.MEDICAL APPOINTMENTS—Transportation to medical appointments is available from 8:45 a.m. until 2:00p.m. Early reservation is recommended as these appointments fill up quickly, sometimes months ahead.WHEELCHAIR VAN—Transportation for medical appointments and shopping is available for seniors needingwheelchair-accessible transportation.
