Roscoe, the Jack Russell Terrier

in

Ox Swamp

Roscoe explores the McCollough farm on the edge of Ox Swamp

Roscoe and I get ready to hit the woods of Ox Swamp. That’s a Russian SKS rifle that Dr. Mott loaned me to use.

It is one of the guns that the Vietcong used in Vietnam. This is a copy.

I was almost a mile in the woods and who found me in a tree stand?Roscoe the wonder dog…He had to cross the causeway over a pond, and travel across bogs all the way

to the BACK of the farm.…He came RIGHT to the tree where I was….I am not sure Ripley would believe it, but I have witnesses!

Dr. Wilmot McCollough, MD, our host, and Paul Jones, a friend of his from Sumter. In alphabetical order, McCollough and McIntosh go together.

Dr. Mott and I sat in adjacent desks from 3rd grade until 10th grade. He is Wilmot Salters McCollough III

I am William Koger McIntosh IIIOur grandfathers were friends.

Our fathers were friends. And I am glad to have him as a friend for over 40 years.

Mr. Wilmot McColllough Sr. built this pond and pond house.Mr. Mott was a fine man, but very protective of his pride and joy

His grandson has cherished it and kept it as a place for family and friends to enjoy.

Roscoe had a LARGE time prowling the woods!

Enjoying the late afternoon sunshine.

So much to explore, so little time

Ox Swamp is where Francis Marion got his nickname! When he hid there, and the British could not find him,

his soldiers began to call him “ the Swamp Fox!”One of those soldiers was Wiliam McIntosh, age 16

He was my great great great Grandfather!

The McCollough fishpond House. This was a special place from my childhood.

Sometimes, you CAN go home.

THE END!

Note: Roscoe died after a brief illness in 2005 , due to an unneeded lyme disease vaccination from an ignorant and greedy vet.

Otis the wonder puppy and I are invited to join Dr Wilmot and his family for Thanksgiving 2010 at the Pond House.

I am sure Otis will enjoy it as much as Roscoe did..and give me an excuse for a new set of Adventures.
