TRIED AND TESTED, RELIABLE IN USE

WEDGE-TYPE ROPE CAPPELS FROM SIEMAG TECBERG The wedge-type rope cappels from SIEMAG TECBERG form the link between the head rope and the conveyance. They are distinguished by their reliable compact design which permits rapid rope disengagement and ensures a maximum of safety. These criteria are particularly desirable in friction winder installations, where they considerably simplify the frequent rope-shortening operations. The rope pulls the movable, wedge-type rope thimble into the cappel housing, thereby achieving a clamping force proportional to the rope force. The clamping forces are absorbed by shear strips inside the housing without stressing the housing bolts. When the rope is in the unloaded state, a locking piece ensures that the connection is not accidentally disengaged. A disengaging bolt is provided to assist in dismantling. This ensures safe and easy disengagement of the cappel connection, even if the components are corroded or extremely dirty.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION

ROPE-LOAD MEASURING DEVICE (SME) FROM SIEMAG TECBERG ▪ reliable ▪ rugged ▪ low maintenance ▪ easy integration

In multi-rope winding machinery it is essential to ensure that all the ropes are evenly loaded. Any difference in rope load caused by non-uniform rope elongation or different rope-groove diameters on the friction pulley has to be detected and corrected.

As with the tried and tested method in use since the early days of multi-rope winding, a measuring device is integrated into the rope attachment of each rope. The rope forces are transmitted via a plate-strap construction to a fully enclosed maintenance-free stainless-steel load cell. Each load cell is connected via a cable to the monitoring electronics. The self-contained monitoring electronics are accommodated in a stainless-steel housing to protect them from splashes of water and then incorporated in the winding devices.

The electronic system normally transmits the readings to the surface by radio. They are then transmitted to the receiver station at the operator‘s control stand via a repeater located at the pitbank level. As an option, it is also possible to display all the rope-load measurements locally.

The measurement readings are analysed by special software developed by SIEMAG TECBERG and installed in a PC. Since the PC is connected to the receiver station via a serial interface, it is not necessary to enter the readings manually.

The software indicates problematic load variations visually and calculates the resetting changes required, or proposes adjustments in rope-groove diameter (independently of the measuring method in use) made necessary by unacceptably high differences in rope load. Any special characteristics of the machinery are also taken into account.

In addition to analysing and displaying the readings, the software makes it possible to save the measurements and print out comprehensive reports.

The maintenance of the SME is limited to replacing the battery in the monitoring electronics and calibrating the load cells at two-year intervals.

The SME is currently undergoing the certification process in accordance with the ATEX guideline 94/9/EG.

LARGE RESETTING LENGTHS - SAFE WORKING

FITTING-PIECE RESETTING DEVICE FROM SIEMAG TECBERGLarge head-rope elongations are corrected by pulling the rope through the rope cappel. Short elongations and differences in rope load are adjusted with the aid of the fitting-piece resetting device, which can balance out even the smallest differences.

The length of the rope attachment is adapted by shifting fitting pieces within a plate-strap construction. For resetting, the fitting pieces are relieved quickly and safely of their load by means of hydraulic cylinders. The cylinders are adjusted to the desired resetting position by changing the position of a pressure plate.

The special design of the fitting pieces ensures the greatest possible degree of stability. They are designed in such a way that they secure each other mutually. Depending on local conditions and requirements, this design allows resetting lengths from 400 mm to more than 1000 mm. Since it is now possible to achieve greater resetting lengths, the rope no longer has to be pulled through the cappel so often, which in turn helps to reduce maintenance costs.
