General Rules
1. All SGA sponsored Homecoming events outlined in this packet are alcohol free. Any
contestant, organization representative, or organization guest found with alcohol or
displaying intoxication will disqualify his or her organization and team from the
Homecoming Week competitions. In addition, the offending person and chapter or
organization will be reported to the Office for Student Conduct and their respective
council judiciary board.
2. Unsportsmanlike conduct or harassment of SGA, Homecoming Committee members,
Office for Student Engagement staff, or another group or team will not be tolerated. If
this occurs, the offending team will lose sportsmanship points and/or be disqualified from
Homecoming and be reported to the Office for Student Conduct.
3. The Office for Student Engagement reserves the right to disqualify any individual, group
of individuals, chapters, or entire teams at any time prior to, during, or after Homecoming
for unsportsmanlike conduct or behavior.
4. Only active members and new members are allowed to participate in Homecoming
Week for team events. The roster used will be the official roster on file with the Office
for Student Engagement.
5. Participants for events must check-in no later than 15 minutes before the start of the
event. Failure to do so will disqualify the unchecked members from that event.
6. Scoring will be as follows for competition events:
a. 1st place – 3 points
b. 2nd place – 2 points
c. 3rd place – 1 point
7. Scoring for sportsmanship points will be as follows:
a. Each team will start the week with a total of 3 points.
b. The Office for Student Engagement staff and/or Homecoming Committee
members will remove 1 point per violation.
c. Team Captains of any team that loses a sportsmanship point will receive written
notification (See Appendix A) within one day.
8. External judges will be used for the Sheet Sign, Downtown Decorating, “Roar Like a
Lion” Yell Competition, Lip Sync and Float Competition. Any attempt to influence

judges in any way will result in an automatic disqualification from all Homecoming
Week student events.
9. All team members, whether actively participating or not, must sign a waiver. This
waiver is due by October 5, 2015 by 5:00 pm. (See Appendix B)
Sunday, October 11, 2015
Homecoming Campus Decorating:
1. Teams must have five participants help with campus decorating.
2. Team participants will sign in with Regan Cascio at 3:00 pm in the Student Union Mall.
Participants will be given tasks to help decorate the campus for Homecoming. These
tasks will be simple yet specific and need to be done according to the instructions given.
Once all assigned tasks are completed participants may sign out with Regan Cascio in the
Student Union Mall.
3. All materials will be provided by the Student Government Association.
4. Each team to do so will receive one participation point towards their overall
Homecoming points. To receive the participation point, participants must sign in, sign out
and complete the task given correctly.
Downtown Decorating Competition:
1. Teams can begin decorating businesses at Wednesday, October 7, 2015. All Downtown
Decorating designs must be complete by Sunday, October 11, 2015 by 5:00 pm. Altering
designs after they have been completed but not judged will result in disqualification from
this event.
2. Pictures of the designs will be taken once they are complete. This is to ensure that if
anything distorts the design, whether intentional or not, judges will be able to see the
original product. If a team has to be judged from a picture, it will be an element
accounted for during judging.
3. Window paint will be provided by the Student Government Association. Teams can pick
up their window paint Monday, October 15, 2015 by 5:00 pm in the Office for Student
Engagement.
4. Teams will be assigned to businesses. Teams can only decorate the business assigned to
them. If a team decorates the window of another business, intentional or not, the design
will not be judged. It is the team’s responsibility to ensure they are decorating the correct
business window. Teams will be provided the address of the business and contact
information. Teams should coordinate with whomever is to be contacted for their
assigned business.

5. If a team interferes with another team’s design or decorating time, sed team will be
disqualified from this event and may have Sportsmanship points deducted.
6. It is the responsibility of the team to clean up outside the business after decorating each
day. There should be no trash left by teams.
7. Teams are responsible for contacting their business to discuss an appropriate time to
clean the window.
8. If there are any issues that develop between a team and the business, please contact
Regan Cascio and Dr. Pam Rault with the Office for Student Engagement.
9. Designs must include “Roomie’s Big Night on Broadway”, “Homecoming 2015”, team
name/organizations included, and team theme.
Downtown Decorating will be judged on the following criteria (See Appendix C):

-Correlation to the Homecoming theme
- Originality/Creativity
- Overall Impression/Neatness

Monday, October 12, 2015
Homecoming Kick-Off-11:00 am 1:30 pm, Student Union Mall:
The Student Government Association will host a Homecoming Kick-Off in the Student Union
Mall. Students will have an opportunity to pick up a free Homecoming t-shirt (while supplies
last) and a schedule of the Homecoming Week activities. Music provided by: DJ Cloud.
Homecoming Sheet Sign Contest- 12 pm
1. Sheet Signs must be turned into the Office for Student Engagement by Friday, October 9,
2015 by 12:00 pm. The Student Government Association and Office of Student
Engagement will be responsible for hanging up and taking down sheet signs. Teams may
pick up their sheet sign after Homecoming on Monday, October 19, 2015 at the Office
for Student Engagement. Any sheet that is not picked up by 5:00 pm on Monday, October
19, 2015 will be discarded.
2. Organizations must provide their own sheet. Sheets must be a Standard Full cloth sheet
and can be any color that compliments the design.
3. No form of glitter may be used on the sheets.

4. Sheets must contain “Homecoming 2015”, “Roomie’s Big Night on Broadway”, the
team’s name/organizations included and the team’s theme.
5. Judging will occur Monday, October 12, 2015 and winners will be announced at the
Homecoming Football game on October 17, 2015
6. All banners must be in good taste. Vulgarity, profanity, nudity, or bashing other teams
will not be tolerated. Teams that fail to comply will be disqualified from this event and
further action may be taken.
7. Any attempt to deface another teams’ sheet will also lead to disqualification from this
event and further actions may be taken including Sportsmanship points being deducted.

NPHC Role Reversal / Southeastern Family Reunion – 7:00 pm, Student Union Mall:
The National Pan-Hellenic Council hosts an evening with free food and entertainment for
Southeastern students. The entertainment includes stepping, strolling, and a friendly competition
between the sororities and fraternities of the council
Tuesday, October 13, 2015
Minute to Win-It – 7:30 pm, Strawberry Field:
1. Each team must have one participant for each game of the competition. There will be five
games total, unless there is an overall tie.
2. The rules will be provided immediately prior to each game before it is played. Teams
will choose one representative to compete in that game. Once a representative is chosen,
that representative will be the only one allowed to compete in that game. If for some
reason the representative is unable to participate in the game, the team will not receive
any points for that specific game. Each representative will only be allowed to participate
in one game.
3. Team representatives must follow the rules for the game. If any rules are broken, the
team will not receive any points for that specific game. It is the responsibility of the

representative to make sure they fully understand the rules. Volunteers will be present to
answer any questions representatives might have.
4. For each specific game, a 1st , 2nd, and, 3rd place will be awarded. Ties will be allowed
for each game. Points will be awarded as outlined below.
5. Points for each game will be averaged and a 1st , 2nd, and ,3rd place will be awarded. If
there is a tie for any place, a tiebreaker game will take place. The rules for the tiebreaker
will be announced prior to the game.
Points for Minute to Win It are as follows:
1st Place- 3 points

Wednesday, October 14, 2015
Gumbo Ya-Ya- 11 am to 2 pm, Student Union
Campus Activities Board will host the annual Gumbo YaYa celebration from 11am to 2pm
outside the Student Union Mall. The 2015 Homecoming Court will also be presented.
Ready, Set, Glow: 5K Glow Run:
Day of Registration at 6:30 pm / Check-in at 7:00 pm / Race at 7:30 pm, North Oak Park
1. On-Line Registration for the race: Participants are encouraged to pre-register for the race
on-line using a link that will be found on the SGA Website at a later date. There is a five
dollar registration fee that can be brought to the Office for Student Engagement by
Tuesday, October 13. If you are not fully registered (completed On-Line Registration
Form and paid) by Tuesday, October 13, you can complete the process during the On-Site
Registration, but you are not guaranteed a race packet.
2. On-Site Registration for the race: Participants who do not Pre-Register using the On-line
system may register on-site, however, participants who register the day of the event are
not guaranteed a Race Packet. On-Site Registration will begin at 6:30pm at North Oak
Park.
3. All money collected will be donated to the Southeastern Foundation in its entirety.
4. Check-In: Check-In will take place at North Oaks Park and starts at 7:00 pm. In order to
be eligible for Homecoming Points, all participants must be checked-in by 7:20 pm and
ready to start the race by 7:30 pm
5. The race will begin at 7:30 pm. The race will be approximately 5K in distance. A map of
the race route will be available at a later date.

6. For one participation point, teams must have at least 10 participants attend the race. There
may be more than 10 participants in the race but only one point will be awarded. Teams
who do not have 10 participants will still be allowed to participate and will qualify for
placing.
7. Team participants must complete the race in its entirety. Anyone who does not stay on
the designated route the entire time will be disqualified for placing and will not be
counted as a team participant.
8. Any form of cheating will not be tolerated. This includes but is not limited to skipping
parts of the designated route or hurting other competitors.
9. Each team participant is required to wear a white t-shirt. Those who do not wear a white
t-shirt will be disqualified from placing but will still be allowed to participate in the race
and will count towards the team’s total number of participants.
10. This is a race with paint. Please dress appropriately and anticipate the paint to stain
clothes and shoes.
Points for Ready, Set, Glow are as follows:
1st Place- 3 points

“Roar Like a Lion” Yell Competition at Bonfire and Pep Rally-6:45 pm, Cook Field:
1. To compete in “Roar Like a Lion” Yell Competition, the organization must complete a
brief description of their cheer/chant idea. “Roar Like a Lion” Yell Competition
description sheets must be completed b y 5:00 pm on October 5, 2015.
2. The purpose of the competition is to showcase pride for Southeastern Louisiana
University, the Lions and team/organizations included.
3. Each performance must last a minimum of one (1) minute and may last no longer than
two (2) minutes.
4. Crude language, obscenity, vulgar behavior, and profanity will NOT be tolerated and will
result in disqualification.
5. Each performance should include a chant and/or cheer, not solely based on a dance
performance, showing pride for Southeastern Louisiana University and/or the Lions.
6. The performances will take place in an appropriate sized area around the Bonfire on
Cook Field.
7. No props, decorations, or music are allowed.
8. There is a limit of 10 participants per group.
9. Stunting in the air is NOT allowed. This means no lifting any person in the air or flips.
Any team who attempts to perform a “stunting act” will automatically be disqualified.

“Roar Like a Lion” Yell Competition will be judged (See Appendix E):
- Originality/Creativity
- Amount of pride shown for Southeastern, the Lions, and team
- Overall impression
Points for the “Roar Like a Lion” Yell Competition are as follows:
1st Place- 3 points
2nd Place-2 points
3rd Place- 1 point
Lip Sync- 8:00 pm, Cook Field:
1. Each team will have a maximum of 25 members participating in Lip Sync. Each team
must have at least one representative from each organization on the team performing in
Lip Sync.
2. Each team will have one minute for setup, 5-7 minutes to perform, and one minute for
takedown. If a performance goes over or under the time limit the team will have points
deducted. If a team exceeds the minute given for setup or takedown points will also be
deducted.
3. Music and team roster must be turned into the Office for Student Engagement by 5:00 pm
on October 5, 2015. Any group that does not turn in their music or roster by the
designated date and time will automatically be disqualified from Lip Sync.
4. Only people on the team roster will be allowed on and behind the stage. Any team with
people on or behind the stage that are not on the roster will have points deducted.
5. Members participating in Lip Sync must check-in with Regan Cascio prior to getting on
stage to verify team roster. I.D. not required.
6. Music must be clean; no explicit or inappropriate lyrics. Points will be deducted from the
total score if music or dancing is deemed inappropriate.
7. Participants are not allowed to exit the stage until the end of the performance. Once a
participant steps on the stage they cannot leave.
8. Order of teams will be chosen randomly before Lip Sync begins.
9. Staging size will be announced at the Homecoming Rules meeting.
10. Teams are not allowed to use glitter, confetti or any other decorations that leave traces on
the stage or ground. If a team uses any decorations described above, points will be
deducted.
11. A spoken storyline is not required for Lip Sync. Points will not be added or subtracted for
having a spoken storyline. The most important aspect is that your team’s overall
performance represents their theme.
12. Tiebreaker Rules:
a. If there is a tie in the overall scores for Lip Sync the following tiebreaker will be
in effect.

b. All teams should choose one person to compete in an one-on-one Lip Sync
Competition. A tie breaker song must be included on the final copy of the Lip
Sync music.
c. The judges will again score the performance and determine the place winner.
d. All rules for Lip Sync apply for the Lip Sync Tiebreaker
Lip Sync will be judged on the following criteria (See Appendix F):
-Style/Appearance
-Choreography
-Overall Performance
- Creativity
-Theme

Homecoming Parade:
1. Definition of Entries:
a. Float: A float entry is anything being pulled by a vehicle.
b. Decorated Car: A car entry is defined as a vehicle requiring a standard automobile
license to operate.
2. “Throws” are acceptable under certain restraints:
a. Do not throw any questionable items such as: condoms, obscene materials of any
sort, or profane items, or anything that could be remotely questionable.
b. Do not throw your items with an excessive amount of force. Specifically, do not
hit spectators in the face or throw with an intention to harm a spectator.
c. A description of “throws” must be included in the Homecoming Registration
Form. Any modifications to the original description must be turned into the
Office for Student Engagement for approval by 5:00 pm October 5, 2015.
3. The use of any rude, crude, or socially unacceptable cheers or hand motions are not
allowed.
4. Please make sure that the music on your float is “family friendly”
5. Students participating/riding in the parade should wear only their organization’s
memorabilia or that of Southeastern Louisiana University. Do not wear anything with
another school’s letters or name. If you do, you will not be allowed to participate in the
parade.

6. No alcohol will be allowed on floats, cars, or in the parade line up.
a. Individuals who are intoxicated will not be allowed on the float and should not be
drinking prior to riding in the parade due to liability, even if they are 21.
b. The Homecoming Committee reserves the right to do spot checks of all entries
regarding alcohol being present on the entry.
c. There will be no drinking on the float.
d. If there is suspicion of alcohol, the float will be removed, there will be a loss of
Homecoming Week participation eligibility for the organization in question, and
the organization will be referred to the Office for Student Conduct.
e. Accepting alcohol from parade spectators is strictly prohibited and will be seen as
an alcohol violation.
7. Once the float or car has been loaded with participants, participants should not leave the
float car until the parade has ended.
8. Any entry may be removed from the parade and competition if, in the opinion of the
parade officials or the Homecoming Committee, the entry is operated in a hazardous
manner or because of the misbehavior of individuals associated with the entry.
9. Any organization that wishes to have a car in addition to the float, must submit their
request in the Homecoming Registration packet.
10. Each organization will only be allowed one float and one car per organization on a team.
11. Each entry must also submit how many participants will be riding on the float. This
number must be submitted when turning in the float entry form to the Office of Student
Engagement.
12. Each entry will receive a Parade Line-Up Number closer to the Homecoming date. This
number will be used to help identify the organization’s entries during the parade.
13. The parade staging (line-up) area will be on the North Campus behind Textbook Rental.
Parade entries must enter from the Tornado Dr. entrance All entries must arrive between
12:30 pm and 1:30 pm to be entered into the parade. All entries must check-in with a
representative from the Office for Student Engagement. (See Appendix I for diagram.)
14. Entries must clearly identify the team name/organization’s included, “Homecoming
2015”, “Roomie’s Big Night on Broadway”, and team theme on both sides of the float for
judging purposes.
Floats will be judged on the following criteria (See Appendix G):

Student organizations participating in homecoming may start submitting their registration packet as early

Homecoming Rules Meeting and draw their sub-theme. The final deadline to submit registration packets

Appendix C
All organization members participating in any Homecoming 2015 event MUST fill out this
waiver and turn it into the Student Government Association Office. Waivers must be turned in by
October 5, 2015 at 5:00 pm.

participate in the activity, in full recognition and appreciation of any risks, hazards or dangers
that may be inherent in this activity, I do hereby assume all of the risks and responsibilities
