WHY SINGLE PLY ROOFING?

Strong, flexible single ply membranes provide continuous waterproofing and insulation across a wide range of flat roof applications, offering creativity in design ideal for new build and refurbishment.

Selected for its safe, flame free installation, which is allowing for rapid construction with easy maintenance and repair, single ply membranes offer a cost effective solution while providing a durable and chemically resistant solution.

Traditional forms of single ply membranes include EPDM and PVC. The most innovative single ply membrane, TPO (Thermoplastic Polyolefin), combines the strength, durability and low volatility of EPDM and the weldability and aesthetics of PVC in a ‘best of both worlds’ solution.

WHAT IS SINTOFOIL TPO

Langley’s Sintofoil TPO is a product based on a tried and tested TPO formulation that is proven in a wide variety of uses and environments for more than 20 years.

It is easy to handle and quick to install using mechanical fasteners, hot weld, ballasted or adhered techniques resulting in a hard wearing, weather and UV resistant waterproof layer.

Most importantly, it provides an environmentally friendly and sustainable membrane that is 100% recyclable and contains no polluting elements such as chlorine, lead or other heavy metals.

These include lower capital and in-use costs; safer, flame-free construction across a wider range of temperatures; higher thermal performance; and easy repair and modification during refurbishment.

THE SINTOFOIL TPO RANGE

There are three main membrane types in the Sintofoil TPO range. Between them, they offer a solution for all types of roofing projects:

• Sintofoil ST is a standard, non-reinforced membrane - ideal for detailing

• Sintofoil FB is a standard membrane with a polyester fleece backing - for use in adhered systems

• Sintofoil RG is a glass fibre reinforced product for added durability and strength - predominantly used in mechanically fixed systems

The standard Sintofoil TPO colour is grey and

the standard thickness is 1.2mm. Other colours

and thicknesses are available by special order.

This impressive complex was designed to mimic neighbouring volcano, Mount Vesuvius. A sustainable green roof was installed over the Single Ply membrane completing the structure which houses a cinema, retail shops, restaurants, a hotel and an open market space. Sintofoil TPO was chosen for its environmental credentials and ease of application over the varied angles and slopes of the building.

This LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) storage terminal is 35m high, has double wall structure of 1m thick concrete outside and steel inside and required a specialist material to withstand high winds (the tank is almost at sea), be applied without flame, be white in colour for reflecting sunlight and require little maintenance.

At the time of construction in 2003, the centre was the largest commercial single unit in Spain. Its unique construction meant that no internal columns were used and 3.6m high steel beams were necessary to support the roof. As a consequence, the external

roofing material had to be carefully selected and Sintofoil TPO was chosen due to its extremely light and easy to install membranes and overall long-term performance.

Sintofoil TPO in white was the perfect solution although the installation was challenging with the sloped roof, high winds and numerous and complicated details, the end result is a fantastic example of the versatility of Sintofoil membranes.

Installation using a combination of mechanical fixing, hot-weld and adhered techniques guarantees not only an extremely secure bond with high resistance to wind lift and building movement, but also quick and easy field assembly that saves time and money on-site. Offering a wider weld temperature window and maintaining its flexibility to lower ambient temperatures than many other single ply products, Sintofoil TPO allows maximum productivity and progress in most weather conditions. Manufacturing techniques that allow for varying sheet widths to be adjusted according to project requirements adds to the overall strength of the membrane by increasing distances between seams and minimising the chance of wind lift while reducing overlaps and waste.

It’s a specialist skill we take very seriously indeed; the demanding programme of training each approved operative must undertake is held at our specialist training facility in Turin Italy and is regularly reviewed to ensure compliance with the latest regulations and with the latest installation process technology.

PHOTOVOLTAICSOLUTIONS Photovoltaic components combine with Langley Waterproofing Systems to provide an integrated seamless solution, ensuring waterproofing and structural integrity between the roof and the PV system. Bespoke Photovoltaic Roofing Systems are expertly designed, planned and installed, delivering a sustainable power supply and commercial benefits to the end user or building owner.

FLAT-TO-PITCHED

An innovative and cost-effective system solution for converting flat roofs to pitched. The Langley system is based around a lightweight galvanised steel system, this creates a structurally sound roof frame which is mechanically fixed to the fabric of the building. The system includes an integrated aluminium soffit, fascia and rainwater solution. There is a choice of lightweight roof finishes available from tile effect to standing seam. Roof space options include traditional pitch as low as 5° and curved radial roofs.

GREEN ROOFING The sustainable benefits of green roofs are widely known to specifiers, building owners and public/local authorities and Langley has the technical expertise and knowledge to design and install a variety of green roof solutions. Each project is individually assessed and designed benefiting from system choices including; extensive, brown, bio-diverse, semi-intensive or intensive.

LIQUID ROOFING

Durable liquid coating systems for flat roof refurbishments for both cold and warm roof designs. The systems are made up of a minimum of two layers of moisture triggered polyurethane, incorporating a random weave glass fibre mat reinforcement. Langley liquid roofing systems form seamless, durable, long lasting weatherproof membranes for all types of flat and pitched roofs including skid inhibiting walkways and balcony systems.

POLYMER MODIFIED ASPHALT High performance Polymer Modified Asphalt structural waterproofing systems designed for flat and sloping roofs, terraces, green roofs and car parks. The systems can be used in cold or warm roof applications for inverted roof waterproofing and paving roof systems. Langley’s Mastic Asphalt has the benefit of SBS (Styrene Butadiene Styrene) Polymers added to the bitumen binder which provides extra performance to the membrane, with increased tolerance to greater temperature variances and structural movement.

BUILT-UP ROOFING

A range of premium quality, SBS modified elastometric bitumen built-up systems available for warm and cold, flat and sloping roofs in both new build and refurbishment projects. Typical Langley systems consist of a bitumen primer, vapour control layer, insulation and underlay with a choice of different colour capping sheets. Alongside a range of Sintofoil TPO (Thermoplastic PolyOlefin) enhanced performance single ply systems using environmentally friendly polypropylene membranes that are durable yet flexible. Systems are mechanically fixed, fully adhered, inverted and ballasted.
