RON’S REJOICINGS THE PRESENCE OF CHRIST IN TEXAS One of our most effective mission partners is the Baptist General Convention of Texas. The churches and institutions of Texas Baptists provide an extensive presence of Christ and influence for good in our state. The largest Baptist uni- versity in the world is a Texas Baptist institution (Baylor University). The largest Baptist benevolent work with children in the world is a Texas Baptist institution (Buckner International). The largest Baptist health care system in the world is a Texas Baptist institution (Baylor Health Care System). Dr. Ron Lyles Pastor I rejoice that we are one of more than 5500 churches that cooperatively serve the spiritual and physi- cal needs of Texans and beyond Texas. During the month of September we receive a special mission offering to support the good work of Texas Baptists in planting new churches and performing many ministry projects in our state. This offering is named after one of Texas’ legendary WMU leaders, Mary Hill Davis. This year I am challenging us to give $15,013 toward the Mary Hill Davis Offering for Texas Missions in support of our worthy efforts together. REDWOOD TREE TRUTH Say those three words three times as fast as you can. It does give the mouth a workout. During the summer we have been climbing mountains together. That sermon series will conclude on Labor Day weekend, but we are going to continue to climb. During the months of September and Oc- tober we will be climbing trees, the tallest trees in the world, the sequoia sempervirens. These are the coast or giant redwoods of the California/Oregon coast. This guiding metaphor will be used to encour- age us to become the spiritual giants that God enables us to be. Pray that God will use the preparation and the proclamation of these messages to create the desire for “new heights” in our relationship with Jesus. OPERACION SAN ANDRES Our participation in the wonderful work of Operacion San Andres (OSA) in Collique, Peru is part of our global mission ministry. Twice a year (October and April) Southmainers join others in spending a week in this poverty area providing medical ministry, dental work, ministry to children, and construction work in building homes. Kees and Elizabett Abbring are the missionaries who live in Collique as the presence of Christ. Kees from the Netherlands and Elizabett from Peru are both graduates of the Baptist University of the Americas in San Antonio. BUA prepares more Hispanics for Christian ministry than any other college/ seminary in the world. And yes, it is a Texas Baptist institution. The Abbrings have been serving in part- nership with OSA for two years. I am delighted that Kees and Elizabett will be sharing their work with us on Sunday evening, September 15. Mark that date. Be present in that service to be informed and inspired by the tremendous work of this couple in Peru. - Your Pastor “Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. THE PRESENCE OF CHRIST IN TEXASOne of our most effective mission partners is the Baptist General Convention of Texas. The churches and institutions of Texas Baptists provide an extensive presence of Christ and influence for good in our state. The largest Baptist uni-versity in the world is a Texas Baptist institution (Baylor University). Dr. Ron LylesPastor

I rejoice that we are one of more than 5500 churches that cooperatively serve the spiritual and physi-cal needs of Texans and beyond Texas.

REDWOOD TREE TRUTHSay those three words three times as fast as you can. It does give the mouth a workout.

During the summer we have been climbing mountains together. That sermon series will conclude on Labor Day weekend, but we are going to continue to climb. During the months of September and Oc-tober we will be climbing trees, the tallest trees in the world, the sequoia sempervirens. These are the coast or giant redwoods of the California/Oregon coast. This guiding metaphor will be used to encour-age us to become the spiritual giants that God enables us to be. Pray that God will use the preparation and the proclamation of these messages to create the desire for “new heights” in our relationship with Jesus.

OPERACION SAN ANDRESOur participation in the wonderful work of Operacion San Andres (OSA) in Collique, Peru is part of our global mission ministry.

BUA prepares more Hispanics for Christian ministry than any other college/seminary in the world. And yes, it is a Texas Baptist institution. The Abbrings have been serving in part-nership with OSA for two years.

I am delighted that Kees and Elizabett will be sharing their work with us on Sunday evening, September 15. Mark that date. Be present in that service to be informed and inspired by the tremendous work of this couple in Peru.

Thanks for An Amazing SummerWe saw lots of growth among the students and we hope to continue that throughout the school year. I would like to send a very warm “thanks” to all of the workers who helped throughout this summer. The trips were amazing because of you. Sunday mornings, Sunday nights, and our Wednesday nights have been great because of the wonderful people who care so much and volunteer their time to help. Thank you all so much. You have helped make my transition into the youth ministry smoother and very enjoyable! Looking forward to an Awesome Fall

During the upcom-ing semester we will continue our Sunday Evening Fundays. These nights include youth choir, fol-lowed by Bible study, a snack,

Reaching Out to New Families Do you remember how you were wel-comed when you

started coming to South Main? I’m sure you were contacted by some loving church members and prob-ably given some kind of welcome gift. We want to do a great job at welcoming people to South Main. That starts on Sunday mornings where we greet people with a smile and some kind words, (even if they happen to be sitting in our favorite spot!) To help them make friends at church, we need to invite them to Sunday School, and to the various ministries of the church.

Fall Outreach NightsFirst and third Tuesday eve-ning of each month, Septem-ber 3 & 17, October 1 & 15, November 5 & 19
