Cellular Backhaul via Satellite

o Cellular Backhaul provided most of the growth in SCPC segment last years

o Backhaul via TDMA networks is getting more and more popularity because of penetration to rural areas with low and unpredictable cellular traffic

o Cellular Backhaul is the most capacity-hungry application, requiring 512-1024 kbps per site

o Mobile providers require cost-effective backhaul solution to perform USO obligations, that is now part of new 3G/LTE licenses in many countries

o African and Asian markets are the most perspective regions for Cellular Backhaul, because of actually low penetration

Requirements

o Small-to-medium size star-topology network with local Gateway

o Support either for IP backhaul and for 2G E1 A-bis protocol

o SCPC dedicated connectivity for developed sites with intensive traffic and TDMA backhaul for undeveloped sites and USO

o Independent infrastructure with in-country Hub, that should be located within specific region

o Cost-effective solution with inexpensive mini-Hub and flexible TDMA/SCPC terminals

o Easy to install and operate hardware with remotely managed operations

ROMANTIS UHPProvider-class VSAT technology

o Any modes and topologies: SCPC, TDM/SCPC, TDM/TDMA, Hubless TDMA

o DVB-S2 VSAT technology with LDPC coding in TDMA channel

o Innovative TDMA protocol with proven efficiency of 96%

o Ultra-low latency VSAT system with round-trip delay about 570 ms

o Support of VLAN, multi-level QoS, TCP acceleration

o Fast network startup — network is ready for use in less than a minute

o Low power consumption allows using terminals with alternative power sources

o Compatible with C, Ku and Ka-band

SEVISCellular Optimization

o Cuts Backhaul Bandwidth on A.bis/A-ter by 50% or more

o Lowers network OpEx and CapExo Converts traffic from TDM to more

efficient packet-based IPo Suitable for both satellite and terrestrial

connectionso Voice quality and data services (GPRS,

EDGE) are preservedo Supports 2G, 2.5G and 3G Networkso Optimization for any codec: HR, FR, EFR,

Satellite Backhaul Network

o Hub transmits aggregated TDM carrier to all network terminalso Terminals transmit via shared TDMA channels or may use

dedicated SCPC link when reasonable (heavy traffic etc)o The same network provides backhaul for 2G/3G/LTE traffico Satellite may provide broadband connectivity for other co-

located equipment (Wi-Fi, Broadcasting, maintenance)

Savings of dynamic bandwidth assignment

o Aggregation of traffic of several Base Stations within shared satellite trasport allows reducing overall bandwidth consumption

o The maximum effect of 40% could be achieved when connecting >10 BS with low traffic (8-16 TCH per BS)

o Such savings remain substantial (10%-25%) even for sites with essential traffic (> 24 TCH in BC)

o The resource disposed due to such statistical multiplexing can be used for data transmission and/or to increase network throughput during peak hours 2 4 5 6 7 8 9 10
