Window shades are subject to industry and, in some cases, government standards intended to enhance safety and to protect children against the risk of strangulation from entanglement in window cords. Among other things, these standards govern the treatment of exposed cords, warning labels and hang tags, and the spacing of pleats in finished shades.
You are responsible for ensuring that your finished window shades meet applicable standards. For more information, visit www.wcmanet.org or cpsc.gov (USA), or outside the USA, your applicable industry trade association and government safety agency.
* NOTE: The lift cord or lift band routing method may effectively reduce the maximum allowable fabric panel weight. Refer to EDU Selection on page 3 or more details.

EDU SelectionIn roman shades, the friction of the lift cords on the eye screws or lift rings uses some of the drive’s power, so the maximum fabric panel weight must be reduced to compensate. Follow the steps below to select an EDU with sufficient lift capacity.
The appropriate drive for your application is construction dependent. Use the graphs below to make an initial drive selection.
Figure 1.a - Approximate Loading Capacity, No Eye Screw (Direct Lift)
Figure 1.b - Approximate Loading Capacity, With Eye Screw (Indirect Lift)
NOTE: The guidelines presented above assume a shade with a 5 : 3 (height : width) aspect ratio and a 0.36 lb/ft (0.54 kg/m) hembar.
* If you selected R64 above, follow the steps and examples in Section 2 to establish the maximum allowable fabric panel weight for the construction of your shade.
** If you selected R100 above, follow the steps and examples in Section 3 to establish the maximum allowable fabric panel weight for the construction of your shade.
*** If you selected R150 above, follow the steps and examples in Section 4 to establish the maximum allowable fabric panel weight for the construction of your shade.
