Role-plays for people who are going to interview

Marie and AnnMarie and Ann are close friends. Ann has been interviewing for support staff where she lives. She has met with Marie at their local café.

Marie: Lovely to see you. You look smart.

Ann: Thank you I’ve been interviewing for new staff where I live.

Marie: How did it go?

Ann: They went really well. I enjoyed asking everyone questions

Marie: My neighbour, Raj was interviewed this morning, how did he get on?

(What should Ann say she doesn’t want to upset Marie?)

Peter and his MumPeter arrives home after spending the day interviewing staff for the day centre where he goes

Peter: Hello mum, I’m home

Mum: Have you had a good day?

Peter: It was tiring, I’ve been interviewing staff

Mum: On your own?

Peter: I was part of a panel

Mum: Were you nervous? I would have been.

(Can Peter tell his mum how he felt or is it private?)

Neena: Yes

Keyworker: So what they like?

Neena: I can’t say it’s private

Keyworker: I’m your keyworker you can tell me

Neena: I’m not allowed to tell anyone

Keyworker: I’m not going pass it on. I just want to know if they’re a laugh. I saw a right miserable bloke go in. I don’t want to work with him. So what were they like?

(Should Neena talk to her Keyworker about the interviews?)

Andy and the Home ManagerThe Home Manager is making Andy and himself a cup of tea

Home Manager: Today was when you were interviewing volunteers wasn’t it?

Andy: Yes they needed 3 people to work with us at the allotment

Home Manager: So did enough people apply?

Andy: There were loads of people

Home Manager: Really? Any young ones, or were they all retired?

Andy: I can’t say

Home Manager: It doesn’t matter if you tell me that

Andy: I’m not allowed to talk about the interviews because they are private

Home Manager: I’m the manager, you can tell me anything

(Can Andy tell the manager anything?)
