Roles of Consumer Rights Protection Act

In relation to the right to basic needs

As regard to the right to safety

In relation to the right of choice

In relation to the right to information

National council, District Committees and Directorate are work to ensure the right to basic needs.

Right to safety means, safe consumer from those goods or services which are risky for life and property. This is observed by DG.

To ensure this right consumer organization, committees are work under this Act.

Informed about quality, quantity, price of goods are not showing is punishable under this Act.

As respect to the right to consumer education

Consumer Movement Advocacy and Sustainability

Compliance Action and Consumer Support

Right to acquire the knowledge and skill to be informed consumer throughout life. This right is ensure by this Act.

To Advocacy Consumer Movement and Sustainability observed by DG under this Act.

Under this Act DG first take action of all compliance and consumer support. Both court have jurisdiction to take case or suit.

Criticism

There are no specific action plan to identify critical areas of access to essential needs. UN guidelines are not properly ensure of this Act. The right of consumer Education not properly ensure. All Anti-consumer rights practices are not add in the punishment. Trial Proceedings are unsatisfactory and complicated. All Anti-consumer rights practices are not under punishment.

Recommendation** The National Consumer Rights Protection Council should establish a five-year action plan to identify critical areas of access to essential needs.** UN guideline should follow properly.** Development of policies for industrialization and export promotion.** Consumer Education should add to formal educational system.** Should take urgent action to support the local consumer groups, bazaar committees, student consumer awareness groups and local complaint cells at divisional levels, provide advice and technical assistance for effective organization.
