Bayshore village has not always been owned by ARC Investments. When Virginia and Grady

Sparkman purchased their home on Sandy Point Drive in October 1988, the park was owned by

Roger Belanger. The Sparkman’s daughter, Denise, worked for Roger. It was her responsibility to

choose houses to be brought into Bayshore Village which had just opened in 1987. As the rural area

become more developed, Bayshore Road was widened. Roger Belanger made a deal with the state

to take some single wide homes from neighboring parks that were in the way of the road widening

project. He did, however, stipulate that lanais/Florida rooms must be added to the sides of these

homes to make them fit in with his vision of how Bayshore Village should look. Every lot had at least

one palm tree. Underground wiring was installed and every house had matching lampposts.

If you look at a site map with lot numbers, the growth of Bayshore Village can be seen from its

beginning phases through the final one. The first phase included Blue Skies Drive to Balmy Point, ,

Balmy Point, Breezy Point, Sandy Point from Shoreline to the curve, Shellcrest from Shoreline to

Sandy Point and Shoreline to Sandy Point. In 1989, Donna and Ollie Thomas had no intentions of

buying a Florida home, but were exploring their options. Roger Belanger offered them a place to stay

in one of the empty homes while they looked not only at Bayshore Village, but at other locations.

Roger seemed that sure of the dream he was building. Donna and Ollie chose Bayshore Village and

purchased a home on Sandy Point Drive in the second phase of development. It would not be until

1992 that they became permanent residents. When they purchased their house at the corner of

Sandy Point and Blue Skies, they were at the perimeter of the park. Blue Skies Drive did not exist

from Placid Point to what is now the RV lot. It was just open space. The Thomases and Bob Kuhn,

who also purchased his house on Shellcrest in 1989, all remember watching new houses being

brought in on trucks in two pieces. They would go out when one arrived and watch in amazement as

one man moved the houses into position with a tractor. Bob says he had the pick of houses on

Shellcrest from Sandy Point to Blue Skies. Only three houses were occupied in that section when he

and Audrey chose the house in which they still live, although not full time until 1993.

When reviewing notes of conversations with Virginia Sparkman, Donna & Ollie Thomas and Bob

Kuhn, there were several common threads. None of these folks came to Bayshore Village ready to

buy a home, but all bought one anyway. They have never regretted their choice to settle in Bayshore

Village. Despite the bumps in the road along the way, each of these Bayshore Village residents

believes that Bayshore is the best place to live in this area.
