A little bit of help from all means the work is spread out and no big load any one person. Keep up the great support we have been receiving and a big thank you. We really appreciate it. Please, if you are interested in your club, then please support meetings. Sometimes decisions are made by the very few who turn up, then we get complaints on the decisions but when only 5 or 6 turn up, then they are the ones who get their say , not you, when you did not attend the meetings and they therefore speak for the club with the majority vote.

CLUB NEWS AND HAPPENINGS Well, it has been quite a busy month for the club. It started off with the club dance on 2nd September with the theme of Spring. This dance was extremely well attended with around 60 people there, the most we have had for quite a while. Of course, the band, Gaz and Gazz may have been part of the drawcard. They are terrific, aren’t they? They know what we lie to dance to and keep us going all night, the more we dance, the more fired up they get and it keeps going.

The best dressed winners – John Parris and his partner

The raffle winners on the night.

The club social was held on the 10th of September. There was quite a good turnout. Unfortunately, Craig and myself had a clash of events . Even though I handed over the catering box for the afternoon, I forgot to hand over the raffle prize so there was no raffle draw during the afternoon. My apologies for my forgetfulness – maybe alziemers starting, do you think? Greg Rea was there to play for us as usual and, once again, thanks Greg for the time and effort you put into our club, much appreciated by all. The members draw at the monthly meeting was won by Col Hooton. Congratulations Col, also on becoming Vice President and our Banner person.

DANCE LESSONS

Dance Lessons are held every Tuesday night at the Masonic Club, corner of Kent and William Streets. The first lesson is free and beginners start at 6.30- 7.30p.m. with intermediate lessons after this. Cost is $5 for members and $7 for non-members. Everyone is welcome. The first lesson is free. The raffle we now hold each Tuesday night has proved successful so will be continued. Tickets are $1 each and the prize is 2 free dance lessons, not bad for a possible $1 investment. Thank you to all who support the raffle each week. This brings in much needed funds so the club can continue holding the dances for all and paying bills, of course.

I often forget to say thank you to the members who give up their time to teach on Tuesday nights. Without you all, there would be no lessons and I believe the club would not be in such a good financial position so thank you all. Thank you Clair, who has once again, stepped up to take on the role for the lessons.

NEXT DANCE Our next dance will be held on 28th October at Gracemere Hall with Billy Guy There will be a raffle, lucky door prize, best dressed prizes. The theme is Halloween so dress up in witches, ghosts etc. The ideas are endless. At a previous meeting, it was voted on prizes and the decision was to cut down on the number of prizes given out. To this end, there will no longer be any lucky chair, lucky spot or lucky partner and only a prize for best dressed lady and man, be that a couple or not. This way, we have more dance time, less disruption looking under chairs and we can make the prizes better. The raffle and lucky door prizes remain untouched. Please remember, our dances are now B.Y.O. We provide water, tea and coffee free of charge. There has recently been a lot of help in setting up the hall prior to the dances and the committee hopes that everyone continues to turn up around 4 p.m. for setting up. Many hands make light work.

THIS IS YOUR NEWSLETTER Please members, this is your newsletter put out to keep everyone in the loop about what is going on in dance circles. If you have any news which you would like to share, please forward to club e-mail address or my own, [email protected] Please also remember photos. We have functions and gatherings and members take photos. It would be appreciated if you could send some of these photos onto Rocky Rockers so they can be used in the newsletter as well as Facebook if you are willing. Thank you. Please find out about us on Facebook and webpage – addresses above on our title page. Also, we list our functions and some of the other events on the back page of our newsletter. Thank you to Craig Stewart for once again taking on the job of keeping our page and web page up to date. SOCIAL AFTERNOONS

Next social will be on 8th October at the Pipe Band Hall at 2.30 p.m. Please bring a plate to share for afternoon tea. Thank you all for the wonderful support we had last social. It was good to see so many there and I am sure it makes Greg feel appreciated. Greg Rea will be playing for us again, thanks Greg because without your support on these afternoons, I am not sure if the members would continue to come. These afternoons are a great chance to practice our new moves and learn something more from others. NEW MEMBERS We have 4 new members this month. Please welcome Gregory and Janine Lacy And Stuart and Kerrie Robertson. Welcome to the club. I believe these new members saw us all dancing at Ferns and decided to give it a go themselves. We know you will enjoy the dancing and new friendships that will be made from becoming members. Welcome once again.

CLUB CLOTHING

Echidna still have the club logo on their computer. They have polo shirts available for $30.70, up only $2 from a long time ago. Not bad at all. To put the logo on the front shoulder, cost is $11.00. To put a large logo on the back is $22.00. They will also put a logo on a hand towel for you at a cost of $15.00, but you must provide your own hand towel. Turn around time is about 2 weeks Contact Echidna Embroidery at 29 Denham Street. Ph 49227564

NEXT MEETING Our next meeting will be held on the 18th October at 6.30 p.m.at the Masonic Club in William Street. This is the first meeting of the new committee together. Please come along and support us. Please remember all meetings now start at 6.30 p.m.

Meeting dates for 2017 18th October 15th November 13 th December

As a club member, you are all entitled to add things to the agenda. By our club rules, agendas are supposed to go out 2 weeks before a meeting, so please, if you have an item you would like to be discussed at the meeting, please send it in to me in good time. Come along and join us every third Wednesday of the month. Thank you all who take the time to attend. GETTING READY FOR OUR XMAS DANCE At a previous meeting, a decision was made to have a Xmas hamper as major prize for our Xmas raffle. We are asking all members to make a donation of food or Xmas goodies to this hamper. Please , no out of date items at all. Think about what you would like to have in the basket if you won it. This usually turns out to be a marvellous prize which will represent a huge saving for one lucky person. If enough is donated, then we may be able to break it up into 1st prize and 2nd prize. Please bring your donation to either the socials or lessons. I am the hamper gatherer and I will be very happy to accept your donations.

DEMO MAGIC I had the newsletter ready to go out and saw this on facebook so had to share it for all. This is what happens when we have our demos, making the day happier and more cheery for the people who are in hospital, homes etc who usually do not have much to look forward to in their day . By the smile on th e lady’s face, you can tell Clair and helpers have succeeded. Well done, Clair and other volunteers named below and thanks to Ali for the post .

CQ HealthLike Page 13 hrs ·

CQ Health is so fortunate to have so many wonderful volunteers. Here is Clair who took

time out to chat with inpatient Helen while visiting with the ‘Rocky Rockers’. The

‘Rockers’ provided light entertainment of singing and dancing to inpatients of the Sub-

acute and Geriatric Evaluation (SAGE) unit. Thank you to Greg (guitarist for the

session), Clair, Alison, Bill, Janet and Lisa for bringing smiles to the faces of our

elderly patients. #cqhealth

Besides that photo is a very good photo of our band of volunteers that often go out of their way to attend these demos. Please contact Clair if you are available to help out. I believe the hospital wants once a month demos.
