Classic Rock Magazine Analysis

Cover Pages

Big white bold header, which is layered behind the “main part” of this articleFree CD for promotion

purposes

Really small issuedate and number

Just below the header is this red circle, as well as the text “exclusive”.Likely something very special about this edition

Face dragging in much of the initial attention, as it is above the magazines title.

Tagline

Main arcicle.Large title in the middle of the cover page.

White explaining text stand out well towards the black background. Colour scheme is black, white and pink, as the headband of the main picture is pink, and white text on black background goes well with the “Goth” feeling of traditional rock magazines.

Sub articles still following the set style sheet format from the main title.Big white titles which goes in good contrast to the back-ground. Bar-

code

Additional material. Marked with read for extra attension.

Slightly more important article, as the header is slightly bigger than usual, and uses a slightly different font.

Untraditional to usual magazines, the title does not take up full page width

Inverse colour scheme to most traditional Rock magazines. White background with black text

Promotional event. Anniversary limited

edition

Tries to slightly keep the traditional look here, by using a black/white picture

Main article is center of the cover page, with the biggest header

Quote from the band

Yellow stands well in contrast to the white background, keeping some of the stylesheet by most other rock magazines (which is black background and yellow/white text).

More, but less imporant articles, still following the same colourscheme, black, white and yellow

Barcode in very normal position

Small text, refering to the other artitswritten about in this magazine.

Quickly sets up the colour scheme in the first line.

Promotional event

Title hidden behind main image. Seems like the normal approach for this magazine, as well as a majority of others.

Using a pretty standard colour scheme for rock magazines. Dark background, yellow & white text.

Small text with red background. “This is also kindaimportant”

“Linking Park” almost bigger than magazine title. Tells that this is a very important story in this issue.

The cover page is almost split into 3 columns, the right, middle and left side, but the main article spans across all 3 of them.

“The naked trurth” fits well as he does not have a shirt on.

Barcode at a convenient and standard position

More includes and special events in this issue

Content Pages

Two coloum page, the content and the main picture

Fits very well with the normal colour schemes of rock magazines. Dark backgrounds, and white text. The blue is uncommon, but is likely due to the shirt colourof the guy in the picture.

Likely to be the main article, as it’s the most “outstanding” from the rest.

Interesting catchline quickly grapping rock fans attention

Issue number and date written underneath the header of the page, to make sure its noticed

“Main Features” highligted with blue banner back-ground.

Very untraditional to most magazine content pages. There is no larger list of articles, only a few main ones, and then a list of all the minnor ones on the side.Neither is there one big image to completely dominate the entire page.

“It’s a riot” likely to be the title of the main article. Largest header on page, with read background.

Somewhat inverse to normal colour schemes, with mainly a white background. Other than that, standard colours, such as black, red and yellow is used.

Seems to be a list of all the contents of the magazine

Promotional event. Reminder that you received a giant poster with this magazine.

Inverse colour scheme to normal, using a white background and black text.

Pretty standard list of all the articles in the magazine. None is made to really stand out.

Very standard picture, that takes out majority of the page. Has a small reference to an arcticle in the conor, but its very small and likely insignificant.

A little comment from the editor

Few pictures with references to some articles. Very standard.

Seems like a pretty standard content page. Nothing challenging, follows a very generic layout setup. Could seem like there is no feature article in this issue.

Double Spreads

Very typical approach, having the one big picture take up a majority of the page

Uncommon place for the article title, far away from the natural starting point. Drawing the readers attention away from the article.

Small teaser of the article, highlighted to stand out from the background. Possibly to draw readers back from the main title.

Follows the general stylesheet for rock magazines, with the darkened pictures, black background and white text

Very challenging to the normal stylesheetwith the purple, pink and red colours. How-ever as the purple colour is very dominant in the picture it is not disrupting.

The page in general looks very messy, theres a lot of pictures, lots of text in different colours, and there are few focus points for the reader to focus on.

How-ever, still goes with the dark background and light text contrasts.

Title in the middle, nice and big.

Very obedient to the norm stylesheet. Very few bright colours, black background, white text and red for highlight.

Text is placed on the right side contra the left side, as the main picture has a direction towards the right. Directs the reader to the article.

Stands out well in contrast to the background, possibly a fact box of a sort
