A FOCUS ON FRENCH MATH• Open exercises in which students need to show their work /
process. Points may be awarded even if they do not achieve the
desired results.
• Calculus, Algebra, Probability, Geometry, and Algorithms are
integrated in the three years of the Baccalaureate teaching
• Scientific research methods, in addition to mathematical
methods, are part of the assessment. Teachers seldom use MCQ.
• The curriculum incorporates use of ICT by the teacher (as a
demonstration tool) and students (as a way to explore a situation),
and the use of oral mathematical exercises.
What differs:
- Testing
- The focus on results vs. methodology
- One teacher teaches all areas of maths, hence
helping students make connections between
different areas of mathematics.
- Curriculum: the distribution of concepts in the
curriculum, and some discrepancies between
the French and a typical US curriculum.
