1. A healthy choice: Are chains and attractions providing variety and making healthy eating easy? Are their menus laden with sugar? Do they offer a variety of fresh veg and fruit as standard?

2. Fresh food you can trust: Is their meat farm assured? Are they serving free range eggs or sustainable fish? Are they cooking and preparing meals fresh in the restaurant? 3. Family friendly: Are they welcoming children and treating them well? Are they accommodating parent needs?

• 66% of parents say they don’t think children’s food in restaurants is good enough.

• Parents are twice as likely to think visitor attractions serve good food to adults, compared to the food they serve to children

Frankie & Benny’s, Pizza Hut, Café Rouge still offer children free or discounted refills of high calorie sugary drinks as standard. 2x 330ml servings of Coca-Cola or Pepsi will add 70g of

free sugars to a meal. This is the equivalent of 17.5 sugar cubes – 291% of the recommended daily maximum for a child of 10.

Pizza Hut offers an unlimited ‘ice cream factory’ with do-it-yourself decorations. A portion of ‘ice cream factory’ ice cream, topped with lemon crunch and milk chocolate beans would include 109g of free sugars. This is 27 sugar cubes – 450% of the recommended daily

maximum for a child of 10.

London Zoo was found to be offering an unhealthy food environment: A day out at London Zoo could see a child consume 132g

of sugar – 700% of a child’s daily sugar allowance. A child’s lunchbox alone could include 36g of sugar – 189%

of a child’s daily sugar allowance.

The Zoo promotes sugary sweets directly to children, with stickers at child height, including ZSL own-brand sweets.

At some kiosks, Pepsi is cheaper than water. There was more plastic fruit in fake market displays then

there was real fruit on offer throughout the Zoo.
