Buying Property in Roatan
• First of all, relax. Its easy! The process is not much different than in North America. We write a contract including terms and conditions with a deposit. A closing date is set and on that day the balance of funds and the title to the property are exchanged through an attorney and you own the property. Deposits and closing funds are normally just wired to the real estate company.
• The Honduran Constitution guarantees the rights of foreigners to own property.
• The only restriction is that foreigners can only own up to 3/4 acre in their own name. Condos, houses on normal lots and regular building lots are not affected. The easy solution is to have a Honduran corporation that holds the property and you own the corporation.
Moving to Roatan
• As a visitor, Immigration will want to see your passport and will issue you with a 30 day visa which can be extended to 90 days if you ask.
• With the attorney we would recommend to you, residency can often require only 120 -150 days from the receipt of the required documents.
• There are a number of residency options. Most require proof of some regular income - as little as $1500/month.
• Investor status can be obtained with just a $50,000 business investment in the country
