College Green Public Transport Priority measure

• College Green is a difficult area for the Public Transport operators at peak Times.

• It is a bottleneck for all vehicles, which in turn causes most problems for the public Transport operator as any delays here have city wide impacts.

• The slow moving vehicles and delays to traffic in the area means that it is also a difficult area for Pedestrians, both while walking on the narrow footpaths and also while crossing the road.

• Why is it a bottleneck. ?

College Green Solution • There is no possibility of widening the roadway. • Only solution is to reduce some of the traffic • By re routing the private car around this area in the morning

and evening peaks this will :- – Free up road space for the public transport operators – Ensure that bus passenger journey times through this area are

reliable and consistent– Enhance the pedestrian environment – Make it safer and easier to cycle through.

• By allowing access during the shopping peaks 10.00-16.00 and all day Saturday and Sunday impact on retails sector is minimised.

Scheme Starts Monday 27th of July • This scheme involves re routing cars and is NOT a city

centre ban on cars. The only area where cars cannot enter is the stretch between the Bank of Ireland and Trinity College.

• Drivers who currently use this area, in the morning and evening peaks, are asked to begin to use the alternatives starting now, maps and further detailed information is available to assist them.

• Large VMS signs will clearly indicate when scheme is in operation.

• Drivers who use this area outside the peak hours or at weekends are completely unaffected by this scheme.
