The Rainforest Organizations and Advocates (ROAD) to 2020 sprouted from Boto para sa Inang Bayan(Vote for our Motherland) signature campaign in December, 2004. The signature campaign was aimed at collecting a million signature to ban logging and mining in natural forests. In 2006, the campaign developed into a more concrete move to bring life to our denuded forest. ROAD to 2020 was launched to restore at least a million hectare of damaged forests by 2020.Green light for the Philippine ForestsLast year, the campaign got a green light for a new site in Quezon. In May 12, 2014, Haribon Foundation signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with DENR IV-A for the 100-hectare area of Mts. Banahaw-San Cristobal Protected Landscape as a new ROAD to 2020 restoration site. Forging community partnerships
Haribon also forged partnership with stakeholders like Samahan ng Mamayang Nagsasaka para sa Bundok Banahaw (SAMAKABA), Liliw Upland Farmer Marketing Cooperative (LUFAMCO) and Environment and Natural Resources Guards Inc. (ENRGI) to aid in the implementation and monitoring, including nurturing of planted trees. Since the program started in 2006, 574 hectares of the ROAD to 2020 sites were restored by planting a total of 905,997 native tree seedlings. In 2014, 905 volunteers were mobilized in tree planting.
