A movement of the Filipino People, with the support of the MMDA, Office of the President, DOTC, DPWH, DENR, DILG, DSWD, etc. and civil society groups Clean Air Asia, Philippine Medical Association, National Bike Organization, Firefly Brigade and other cycling groups, Integrated Bar of the Philippines, Partnership for Clean Air, and others.

2. Walk and Bike - To give proper spaces for non-motorized transport for people who want

to walk or bike.

3. Clean Air- To improve the air quality of urban centers and to reduce the

discharge of climate-disrupting gases

Event Summary

On June 28, Sunday, the Filipino People1 will take over the historic E. de los Santos Avenue and launch the EDSA Evolution. The movement seeks to transform the roads of the country, starting with the most congested road from being roads meant solely for motor vehicles into becoming roads designed to move people in a way that is safe, efficient, convenient, reliable, and affordable.

What is the Road Sharing principle?

1 This is a movement of the Filipino people, some of whom are from Government (MMDA, DPWH, DENR, DILG, DOTC-LTFRB, DSWD, Ombudsman, local governments, etc.), civil society organizations, and ordinary citizens.

The principle of Bayanihan sa Daan (Road Sharing) is that roads are meant to move people, not motor vehicles. The motor vehicles are equipment that can move people over long distances and must be used in a manner that is safe, efficient, convenient and reliable.

Simply put, it is the just sharing of roads, properly organizing busses, private vehicles and the allocation of bike lanes and wider, more useable pedestrian lanes.

What is the goal of the Movement?

The Main goal of the movement is to fix, current traffic situation on EDSA, by making public transportation more efficient, easy and reliable for commuters. Doing so should lessen the people’s reliability on private transportation. Concurrently, the movement aims to enable people to have the option to walk or bike along EDSA, by providing wider sidewalks and bike lanes.

Why EDSA?

Why not? EDSA is the main artery of Metro Manila. Running through 6 cities along its entire stretch, it is estimated that between 600,000 to more than a million vehicles ply EDSA daily. With so many passengers and pedestrians, EDSA is often the focus of pedestrian and commuter complaints as seen on the news and social media.

If we can prove to that road sharing can be done on one of the busiest, most important, and most iconic thoroughfares in the country, we can confidently show that it can be done on other roads. The long term plan is to do this every Sunday after June 28, to get people used to the improved public transportation and to be able to walk and bike at will.

How will this be implemented?

Both North and Southbound sides of EDSA will be divided as follows:2-3 lanes for non-motorized transportation divided for people to walk and to bike 1-2 lanes for non-smoke belching buses following a their proper lanes

One for buses that will stop at bus stops spaced every two kilometers apart to encourage people to walk and bike. Bikes will be provided by MMDA, for free)

1 lane for private Vehicle lane (Lane closest to the median/center island)

Note: Government statistics show that less than 1% of the 100 Million Filipinos own private cars

When: June 28, Sunday, From 12:00 am until 11:59pm.

Where:From the Mall of Asia (MOA) until EDSA-Ortigas intersection.
