ROAD LAWS AND ACTS IN

The first legislation relating to road transport in Malaya. This law relates not powered vehicles like horse-drawn carriage, tricycles and chariots.

TRACTION ENGINES AND MOTOR CARS ENACTMENT 1912 • This legislation covers the engine and the motorized car and road

regulations in Federal Malay States.

• This enactment is more comprehensive, covering the motorized vehicles regulations, provisions for the third party risks, provisions for highway use, and the rules governing civil service and commercial vehicles as well as general provisions.

ROAD TRAFFIC ORDINANCE OF 1958(ORDINAN LALULINTAS JALAN 1958)• The Road Traffic Ordinance 1958 was divided into five parts. The content of

the ordinance :• Part 1 : Definitions of the purposes of ordinances.• Part 2 : Classifications of the registration and licensing of motor vehicle and

drivers.• Part 3 : Highway Code & speed, limiting entry of vehicles in certain areas,

the provision of car parking and traffic lights from entrance to the existing roads.

• Part 4 : Third-party insurance coverage for the use of the vehicle and owner responsibility.

• Part 5 : Rules for commercial transportation- taxis, rental vehicles, and goods vehicle.

• Traffic sign → device erected/provided at or near the road to knowledge, user or indicate directions to the road users.

• Parking → a motor vehicle bringing that conditions do not move and hire are waiting for any purpose.
