PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that the County of Columbus has scheduled a

Public Hearing to:

1. Adopt new flood maps to comply with the minimum criteria of the Na-tional Flood Insurance Program (NFIP); and,

2. Adopt an updated flood damage prevention ordinance to comply with the minimum criteria of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).

A Public Hearing will be held on Monday, October 21, 2019 at 6:30 pm in the Commissioner’s Chambers located in the Dempsey B. Herring Courthouse Annex at 112 W. Smith Street in Whiteville, NC. The purpose of the Public Hearing is to receive comments from the public regarding the proposed adoption of the new flood maps and an updated flood damage prevention ordinance. Copies of the proposed flood damage prevention ordinance may be viewed at branches of the Columbus County Public Library. The preliminary flood maps are available for review by contacting the Planning Department or may be viewed online at http://fris.nc.gov/fris/ un-der the Preliminary Maps tab.
