2016 RMIT Animal Ethics Seminar The Research Office at RMIT University is proud to present this seminar considering advances and innovations in animal ethics and animal welfare from various perspectives; including ethics, governance, regulatory, and scientific perspectives. This seminar features a dynamic line up of speakers including: Associate Professor Ross Vlahos, Associate Professor Clinical Sciences, School of Health and Biomedical Sciences, RMIT University Dr Dani Maver, Manager, Licensing and Audit, Biosecurity, the Victorian Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources Dr Malcolm France, Consultant Laboratory Animal Veterinarian and Chairperson for the UTS Animal Care and Ethics Committee Mr Sebastian Gimenez, Senior Animal Ethics Officer and AEC Secretary, Faculty of Science. University of Melbourne Specific topics that will be covered include: >> Advances in animal models for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) research >> Assessment of pain and wellbeing in rodents >> Challenges with transparency in animal research >> Testing boundaries: the Code, Regulations and the Precautionary Principle >> Novel and innovative animal research: An ethics and governance perspective There will be Question & Answer sessions following all presentations and ample opportunities to network, with morning tea and lunch provided. This seminar is invaluable for people with an interest in and/or responsibilities with regard to animal ethics and welfare in a research environment including: prospective and existing researchers, Animal Ethics Committee members, animal ethics and governance advisors, animal technicians and veterinarians, and license holders.
