    This presentation will walk you through filling out the form and selecting your requests.

  • As you start the form, open up the linked RMHS’s 21-22 course offerings document in a separate tab to see the list of courses available for the 21-22 school year.

    Also review your linked graduation requirements to ensure you are requesting classes that keep you on track towards graduation.

    Each form has 9-10 sections in which you will complete. The first section will ask you to provide your and your parent(s)/guardian(s) contact information. Please provide your personal email address (not mcpsmd.net) in case your counselor needs to contact you about your requests.

    Section 1

  • Requesting CoursesYou will request your courses in sections 2-8 of the google form.

    If you have questions about what course or level to take, consider checking in with your teachers regarding their recommendation for you (teacher recommendations can be discussed during counselor meetings or you can discuss your teacher recommendation with your current content teacher).

    All students must request seven classes at this time. If you are planning to have an abbreviated schedule for an approved reason or participate a program at a different school that requires you to have less than seven classes at RMHS, you will communicate this to your counselor near the end of the form.

  • Section 2: EnglishSelect your English course request. All students must sign up for an English class.

  • Section 3: MathSelect your math course request. All students must be enrolled in a math class for each year they are in high school.

    Keep your teachers recommendation and the math pathways in mind when selecting your request.

    If you plan to request more than 1 math course, you will request the second one in the electives section of your form.

  • Section 4: ScienceSelect your science course request.

    Keep your teachers recommendation and the science pathways in mind when selecting your request.

    If you plan to request more than 1 science course, you will request the second one in the electives section of your form.

    If you are a senior and you have completed your science graduation requirements and do not plan to continue in the subject, enter an elective request.

  • Section 5: Social StudiesSelect your social studies course request.

    If you plan to request more than 1 social studies course, you will request the second one in the electives section of your form.

    If you are a senior and you have completed your social studies graduation requirements and do not plan to continue in the subject, enter an elective request.

  • Section 6: World Language or Elective

    Select your world language course request or, if applicable, enter an elective course request.

    If you plan to request more than 1 world language course, you will request the second one in the electives section of your form.

    Review elective choices through the linked RMHS Course Codes document. To see descriptions of specific courses, visit the MCPS Course Bulletin.

  • Sections 7&8: ElectivesEnter your elective course requests. Here you will also choose alternative or second elective requests in case your first choice is not available. Make sure your alternative requests are courses you would want to take.

    Rising 10th graders will have a space to select a half semester of health in section 7.

  • New elective choices/changes for the 21-22 school year

    This school year we are offering the following new electives/changes:● Literature as Film (one semester course, offered 1st semester)● African American Literature (one semester course, offered 2nd semester)● Approaches to Learning A/B (AP Support course)● AP Music Theory A/B● Advanced Technological Applications (ATA) A/B● LGBTQ+ Studies (one semester course, offered 1st and 2nd semester)● IB Dance A/B (11th and 12th only, SL test option)● IB History 1A/B (open to all juniors, satisfies MWH graduation requirement)● IB English Literature 1 (open to all juniors)● IB Theory of Knowledge (TOK) 1A/B (open to all juniors)

    Attend the elective fair on December 4th through Advisory to learn more about these and existing electives at RMHS!

  • Sections 9&10: Additional InformationRising Sophomores:● If you are applying to a program at Edison high school, or plan to participate in a program at another MCPS

    high school, indicate this in section 9.

    Rising Juniors and Seniors● If you are applying to the Early College program, Dual Enrollment, Edison, a program at another MCPS

    high school, or you plan to have an abbreviated schedule for an approved reason, indicate this in section 9. If you choose abbreviated schedule, indicate the periods and courses (at least 4) you want to keep in your schedule and fill out the linked abbreviated schedule form.

    Rising IB Juniors and Seniors● You will be asked to indicate your 6 subject SL/HL testing plan in section 9. Students in the IB program

    must Standard Level (SL) test in a minimum of two to a maximum of three subjects and must Higher Level (HL) test in a minimum of three to a maximum of four subjects for a total of six tests. All IB students have to HL test in English.

    All students will have the opportunity to submit any questions or concerns to their counselor in the last section of the form. Once complete, hit submit and you will be emailed a copy of your responses.

    December 10th - January 22nd • Counselors will meet with students one-on-one to

    review online course requests.
