RMD CONVEYOR™Remote Mechanical Dewatering Conveyor*

Clyde Bergemann Power Group offers a unique and patented option for plants to eliminate their ash ponds. By intercepting the pipelines leading to the ash ponds, the slurry flow is diverted to a Remote Mechanical Dewatering Conveyor (RMD Conveyor™).

The RMD Conveyor™ has all of the bottom ash dewatering characteristics of a regular Submerged Scraper Conveyor (SSC) plus the water flow control aspects of a dewatering bin. A RMD Conveyor™ system does not require the height of traditional dewatering bins. This design feature eliminates the need for retrofitting jet pumps and water supply pumps to lift the slurry high in the air to reach traditional dewatering bins. The RMD Conveyor™ can utilize existing pumps and continuously dewaters ash to the commercially accepted dryness. By staying close to the ground, there is little, if any, increase in total dynamic head requirements on the existing jet pumps and water supply pumps normally associated with the existing pond disposal system. The resulting bottom ash product exiting the RMD Conveyor™ can immediately be loaded onto trucks for off site disposal or stored on site in an ash bunker, piles or silo. The overflow water can be returned back to the bottom ash system to make a closed loop zero liquid discharge system.

RMD Conveyor™: A solution for ash pond removal

Since the RMD Conveyor™ Remote Submerged Scraper Conveyor design shares many of the proven technology features of a SSC, the RMD Conveyor™ is being quickly received as a new industry solution for ash pond elimination. Both a traditional SSC and a RMD Conveyor™ remove bottom ash from pulverized coal fired boilers and are particularly well suited when high ash generation rates are expected. Both systems are capable of quenching, dewatering and transporting high rates of ash and offer greater energy efficiency than hydraulic systems of comparable capacity. In addition to the RMD Conveyor™, Clyde Bergemann offers a full range of bottom ash handling systems:DRYCON™: Complete dry bottom ash handling system.SSC: Minimize water consumption.Dewatering Bins: Dewater and store bottom ash slurry.High Density Slurry: High efficiency slurry systems.

Unique design features of RMD Conveyor™ Remote Mechanical Dewatering Conveyor

RMD Conveyor™ differs from a SSC in several key aspects:

• RMD Conveyor™ is located in an open field away from the boiler island and therefore does not require a major boiler outage to install.

• RMD Conveyor™ receives bottom ash that has already passed through a grinder with very little vertical drop down into the conveyor water trough. This leads to much longer conveyor life and reliability.

• RMD Conveyor™ receives and handles all of the dilute water slurry in the existing pipeline system and requires no additional cooling water.

• One RMD Conveyor™ can serve multiple boiler units, saving costs.

• With very little additional lift in the pipeline, existing water supply pumps and jet pumps under the boiler should normally not have to be retrofitted with higher horsepower motors and water pressure. This saves energy as well as outage related installation costs.

• Continuous removal and dewatering of the ash requires less maintenance and personnel involvement than batch systems.
