Legal Work Experience
Essex Court Chambers | Mini-‐pupil (November 2014)
Shadowed barrister John Robb for four days. Analysed a shipping case that involved an arbitrator correcting his initial award. I read through the re-‐award, arguing that the arbitrator had neglected to deal with part of the respondent’s claim justifying his re-‐award. I helped John Robb draft a skeleton argument, presenting my arguments to him as well as observing him draft the skeleton argument. This gave me a more more in-‐depth knowledge of drafting skeleton arguments. Have a basic knowledge of section 57 of the Arbitration Act through studying it with regard to the case.
Wolters Kluwer | Tax researcher (June 2014-‐present)
Responsible for maintaining and updating, on a monthly basis, the WBTG (Worldwide Business Tax Guide) and WWTRA (Worldwide Tax Rates and Answers) files. This involves researching Israeli tax law using a source list, which I am responsible for maintaining. Developing research skills and an understanding of Israeli tax law.
2 Hare Court | Mini-‐pupil (October 2011)
Shadowed barrister Sarah Turnock for one week. Attended a number of her criminal cases in the magistrates and crown courts, as well as meetings with witnesses. Learnt about the basics of advocacy in court. Although I enjoyed the experience, it confirmed my desire to pursue the commercial Bar.
Essex Court Chambers | Work experience (July 2010)
Shadowed barrister Jeremy Brier for one week. Attended the MPs’ Expenses case hearing with Lord Pannick at the Royal Courts of Justice and observed meetings with clients. Learnt the basics of a life at the Bar, whilst studying cases gave me experience of drafting skeleton arguments and the level of detail required.
Public Speaking and Mooting Experience
Inter-‐Varsity Mooting Competition | Bristol University (February 2015)
• Mooting problem concerned the Occupiers’ Liability Acts of 1957 and 1984 • Acted on behalf of both Eve, a 13 year old who hurt her head on some rocks in lake where swimming
was prohibited in a public park, and the council • Case centred on whether Eve was a trespasser and whether her age meant she was more comparable to
a child to whom there would have been a greater duty of care or an adult • Missed out on the semi-‐finals by one point, gaining further experience drafting a skeleton argument and
preparing a bundle
