Home of the weekMarilyn Tosk, Sotheby’s International Realty

Details are key to the charm of a North Riverdale house

F rom the moment visitors step inside the trim two story home on 4,970 square feet at 5607 Post Road in North Riverdale, they are captivated by its

charm. Maybe its the complex scalloped pattern

carved into the entry hall archway echoing the patterning of the portico outside and the qua-druple windows of the front door.

Maybe it’s the stonework on the front stair-way or the manicured garden spanning a double lot replete with specimen plantings or maybe it’s the chair rails in the dining room or the gleam-ing hardwood floors. This house has a lot of character.

The off-center entryway leads to a corner living room and an adjacent dining room. The spacious updated kitchen features modern

white cabinetry and appliances with contrast-ing dark green counters and backsplashes. And it has direct access to the rear patio and garden.

A powder room completes the first floor. The upper level has three bedrooms and a

full bathroom and the finished lower level fea-tures a recreation/exercise room, a large laun-dry room, an attached one-car garage and a stor-age area.

The house is ideally located on a quiet tree-lined street close to transportation — including express buses to Manhattan —and services.

According to exclusive broker Marilyn Tosk of Sotheby’s International Realty, the home is in move-in condition and it is being offered for $730,000. Taxes on the pair of lots are estimated to be $5,034 per year.

Clockwise from top:

This two-story home, located at 5607 Post Road, sits high above its double lot.

The living room has an inviting aura.

A scalloped archway highlights the entry hall.

The kitchen is immaculate.

What’s cooking?

A lavish breakfast of eggs, smoked salmon and avocadoBy Danielle [email protected]

For the past three mornings, my mother and I woke up to a breakfast fit for a queen. Ber-ries and sweet pineapple, strong coffee, buttery croissants, flaky pecan rolls sticky with caramel and cinnamon and, last but not least, a bowl of creamy grits, lighter than a cloud, and topped with juicy plump shrimp, ham, peppers and chives.

That was the life. At least for a short stay at The Went-worth Mansion (built in 1886) in South Carolina. My own personal version of Down-town Abbey played out every morning when I, Lady Mary, woke up, yawned and mosied over to the carriage house for long, lazy breakfast with my mom, who is by far more Maggie Smith than Elizabeth

McGovern. I could get used to this. The

fuss, the pampering and the indulgent low-country cuisine. But alas, back in Riverdale on the morning of Passover, the dream is over and I’m one pant size up from a week of total in-dulgence.

It was worth every calorie and while I’ll probably skip inhaling multiple pecan rolls and mascarpone grits every morning, one thing I took away from this Carolina getaway was having a lavish, lazy breakfast. Here’s my idea of a rich and healthy version for two.

LAVISH BREAKFAST FOR TWO

2 extra large farm fresh organic eggs

4 slices smoked salmon1 ripe avocado

1 small jalapeno, sliced lengthwise, seeds and ribs removed

1/2 lemonkosher salt and freshly

cracked pepper, to taste

1 Tbsp. freshly torn cilantro leaves

fresh dill leaves, for garnish

2-4 slices toasted sprouted grain bread, for serving

Optional

sliced fruit and berriesstrong coffee and organic

milkfresh-squeezed grapefruit

juice

In a small pot, cover the eggs with cold water. Bring to a boil, turn off heat, cover and set

a timer for 15 minutes.Meanwhile, overlap the

smoked salmon slices on a

plate.Spoon the avocado into a

small bowl. Squeeze the juice

from the halved lemon over the avocado. Season with salt and pepper. Add the torn ci-lantro. Chop half the jalapeno coarsely and add to the bowl. Mash the mixture togetheruntil creamy. Taste for season-ing and spoon over the center of the salmon.

Thinly slice the remain-ing pepper crosswise into half moons and garnish the smashed avocado with peppers and dill leaves. Season with more pepper.

While toasting the bread, peel the eggs while still warm and slice lengthwise in quar-ters. Serve alongside the salm-on and avocado with warm bread.

Serve the salmon, eggs, avo-cado and hot bread with a small platter of fruit, fresh coffee and fresh squeezed small carafe of grapefruit juice.
