St. Luke School Lions on the Loose
Summer Math Review Packet
Dear St. Luke Student, Your middle school math teacher is looking forward to teaching you many math concepts next school year. In preparation for another successful start to a new school year, you must review the concepts and complete all problems included in this packet. The concepts in the packet are those which you should have mastered in your 2014-2015 math class. We encourage you to work each problem carefully and seek assistance for concepts where there is not mastery. The following procedures should be used for completing your summer math packet: 1. Complete all problems. You may answer the problems directly in the math packet showing all work. There will be a significant deduction to your grade for problems where work is omitted. Record your answers on the pages provided at the back of the packet. Make sure your name is written on your math packet. It would be wise to work a couple of pages each week in your math packet instead of waiting until the last minute! 2. NO calculators – all work must be shown when necessary. 3. Your packet will be graded for completion and will serve as an essential skills quiz/test grade for your math class for the first nine week grading period. During the first week of school, an assessment drawn directly from the objectives in this packet will be given. This assessment will serve as a test grade for the first nine week grading period. There will not be a review of the essential skills concepts prior to the test. 4. Your summer math review packet is due on St. Luke’s registration day, August 6, 2015. The same due date as your other Lions on the Loose assignments. Should you have any questions regarding your math packet, please email Mrs. Hatala at [email protected] (7th grade Pre-Algebra teacher). Sincerely, The St. Luke Middle School Math Teachers

St. Luke School Lions on the Loose
Summer Math Review Packet
Dear Parents,
In preparation for another successful start to a new school year, your child must review the concepts and complete all problems included in this packet. The concepts in the packet are those, which your child should have mastered while attending their 2014-2015 math class. The concepts are referred to as the 6th grade essential math skills. Essential skills are developmentally appropriate, basic math concepts that are essential for the student’s understanding of the math being taught. The mastery of them is critical as they are challenged in their 7th grade class.
Our goal is that each student has mastered the skills that we deem essential at the
completion of their present year in school. Therefore, the packet is a review and a way for students to show what they have mastered. We encourage your child to work each problem with great effort. If your child finds an essential skill difficult, please consider extra instruction this summer and working more problems pertaining to the skill. Please encourage your child to work the summer math packet with no guidance, assess, and then perhaps complete the packet a second time. Below are some resources for your child to use in order to facilitate the mastery of each essential skill where they have room to grow. Sincerely, The St. Luke Middle School Math Teachers Resources: www.ixl.com www.khanacademy.org (also an iPad app)
