Previously, IHA’s highest honor was to be named one of its Top Performers and we were always included. But when they did away with that award this past year, the criteria for distinction got a lot steeper with only a few in 2015 worthy of their inaugural Excellence in Healthcare Award. This monumental achievement recognizes Edinger for succeeding in ensuring patients receive the highest quality care. Edinger demonstrated superior performance in multiple aspects of patient care including clinical quality and patient satisfaction. The IHA performance program evaluates approximately 35,000 physicians providing care for 9 million patients throughout California. IHA is a nonprofit statewide leadership organization that promotes quality improvement, accountability, and affordability of healthcare in California. What does the award mean for our patients?We continue to excel and rise to the top. For more than 50 years, Edinger has stayed true to the fundamental goal of practicing the highest quality of healthcare. This award validates that our patients can count on the care they receive from us. With a significant percentage of the award relying on independent patient satisfaction survey, our patients express confidence in the care they receive from us (and we appreciate it). Our patients should feel assured they are recipients of care that is incomparable in the community and in the state.

OC Register’s Top Work Places #1 Small BusinessWhat does the award mean?Given Edinger Medical Group’s size of under 100 employees, the chance to be ranked as OC Register’s Top Workplace was a long shot. But on the first try, Edinger Medical Group was not only recognized, but named the #1 OC Top Workplace in the Small Business Category beating out more than 100 others in Orange County. Companies are recognized as one of OC Register’s Top Workplaces based solely on surveys about the workplace completed by their staff. Studies confirm Top Workplaces are not only better places to work but are more likely to be successful than peer organizations.

Right Care Initiative’s Platinum Award WinnerWhat does the award mean?2015 marked the second year for Edinger Medical Group to receive the State of California’s Right Care Initiative Platinum Award for providing the best possible care to lower the risk of heart attacks, strokes, and diabetic complications. Edinger was the only group in Orange County and one of only two medical groups in the entire state to receive this honor. Edinger Medical Group achieved this distinction in part by ranking #1 in the state for overall diabetes care compared to over 200 medical groups statewide. In the five years that the Platinum distinction has been given, only five medical groups have received this honor; Edinger has now received it twice. Launched in 2008, The Right Care Initiative Awards recognize medical groups that improve patient outcomes by practicing patient-centered, evidence-based medicine. What does the award mean for our patients?The award is aptly named “Right Care” for a reason and it speaks for itself. Edinger patients can be confident that we work hard at caring for our patients with diabetes and cardiovascular conditions because we believe it saves lives and helps prevent disability. again took a top spot in the Best Hospital Category in the Orange County Register’s “Best of Orange County” competition that annually asks its readers to vote for their favorite services and places. Edinger has proudly partnered with Orange Coast Memorial caring for hospitalized patients for over 15 years.

Dr. Stanley Arnold and Dr. Betty Yu were recipients of Orange County Medical Association’s 2015 Physician of Excellence Awards and Dr. Valery Brouwer was acknowledged by Orange Coast Magazine in its annual list of “Top Doctors.” Both awards honor physicians who demonstrate commitment to physician leadership, charitable service and mentorship.

This year, Dr. Yu was recognized as the physician with the highest patient satisfaction for in-patient care at Orange Coast Memorial Hospital, where she is currently the Vice Chairman of the Department of Family Medicine and Dr. Arnold serves as the immediate past Chief of Staff.

PACIFIC HOSPITALIST ASSOCIATES HAS BEEN a leader in the Southern California hospitalist movement

since 1996, specializing in the care of hospitalized patients at Hoag Hospital Newport Beach, Hoag Hospital Irvine, and Hoag Orthopedic Institute. PHA recruits the best physicians, largely from California’s elite training programs, and maintains a very low physician turnover rate of less than 5 percent per year.

The physicians of PHA specialize in the care of adult hospital patients, providing care for patients in the emergency room, intensive-care unit and on the medical and surgical �oors evaluating patients in the emergency room to determine the need for hospital admission.

The physicians work closely with case managers to ensure that patients have appropriate discharge plans and that follow-up has been arranged. They also communicate with patients’ primary care physicians to inform them about the patient’s hospitalization. PHA notes that it has received high marks in patient and physician satisfaction.

Given the rising costs of food and decreased funding from public sources, Huntington Beach was struggling to meet the increasing needs of local seniors. Short of the required funding to provide daily lunches to needy Huntington Beach seniors at the Rodgers Senior Center, we gladly donated $10,000 to assure that no one would be turned away hungry. Our additional funding will allow the lunch program to not only provide more hot lunches but also increase kitchen staff hours for food preparation. Homebound seniors will also benefit from the donation with hot meal delivery. This meal program traditionally serves the oldest population of seniors in Huntington Beach. “For many seniors coming to lunch, this is their only meal of the day, along with their only chance to interact with others. Edinger Medical Group has truly stepped up to the plate by recognizing the need in the community,” says Randy Pesqueira, Huntington Beach Senior Services Director. Caring for others does not end at 5 pm. Many of our employees go the extra mile outside of work too. Andrea Acosta, from our Pediatric front office, has been a long-time volunteer for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. Her call to action was prompted by her aunt’s battle with the disease. She continues to raise awareness by volunteering and participating in all their OC fundraising events.

Maria de la Cruz and Deby Luz Keeney, our Adult Diabetic Care Coordinators, are strong advocates for their patients in the office and outside Participating in the Step Out Walk to Stop Diabetes, they earned money for the cause and bonded with our Edinger patients at the same time.

Sylvia Laskey, one of our Pediatric staff, has been an event organizer for the VFW Post 9934 for years. Coordinating everything from baby showers for new moms of deployed Marines to Meals for Morale this event bringing Marines, Sailors and their families together, Sylvia is an integral part of the organization’s success.
