THERE was no time for lengthycelebrations for Armidale moun-tain biker Katherine Hosking af-ter taking out the NorthernInland Academy of Sport’sFemale Athlete of the Year awardover the weekend.
The fifteen-year-old wasstraight off to a training camp af-ter her win on Sunday, honingher skills on two wheels.
“I have been lucky enough tobe selected to join a nationalmountain biking team TorqMerida Australia,” Hosking said.
“I am the most junior rider, soI will be learning from ridersfrom my category to elites andall the support staff.
“It’s pretty cool that HollyHarris, three times nationalchampion, is also in the team.
“Holly’s sort of shown me andthe other Armidale riders what’spossible in mountain biking ifyou put your mind to it.”
The teenager was thrilled whenshe was presented with the awardin Armidale over the weekend.
She said she was not expect-ing hear her name called
“Last year I was nominated,but didn’t win, I was amazed atwhat the other nominees andwinners had achieved and felt
quite inferior,” Hosking said. “Ihave been lucky to be given greatopportunities and a lot of sup-port by many people.”
The award is sure to provide ahuge confidence boost for theyoung rider, who dreams of tak-ing her sport to an internationallevel in the future.
“I am really keen to go to NewZealand in March 2016 for the
Oceania Games and give the Kiwisa run for their money,” she said.
“In the last Oceanias I had atough race and finished fourthafter a few crashes.
“The Kiwis are definitely awe-some mountain bikers and greatgirls.
“I love mountain biking andwould like to keep pushing andtraining hard.”

ARMIDALE RIFLE CLUB NEWSON SUNDAY afternoon, fivemembers competed in the ArmidaleRifle Club’s 600 yard match.
There was a light wind comingfrom the SSW changing to NNW withan added mirage.
In F-Class Standard Ian Moffattwas the overall winner for the dayscoring 108.4.
There were no target riflecompetitors.

The Varmint Shoot will again beheld for the Ian Barger Memorial
Shield. This will be a 20 shot eventwith no sighters allowed and shotover 100 and 200 yards.
The Varmint shoot will commenceas soon as possible after theBenchrest Range opens in themorning for those people interestedand general shooting will beavailable as usual.
